W elcome to another installment of Emmagem’s easy-peasy manicure tutorials! This week, we show you how to create a bejeweled-themed manicure that can be done in a few minutes, so you save time and spend it doing better, more constructive things like spending the week’s (or month’s, if you please) allowance on online shopping (check out our writer Hannie’s dish on where to get the best deals on the Internet – you won’t be disappointed!)

Firstly, this is what you’re going to need:

  • Phone deco crystals (RM5 per pack, from Daiso)

Note: you can also use nail crystals, but they’re pretty pricey and will fall off anyway in the end, so why not go for cheap ‘n’ chic instead? Also, check out the Supersave store at Parkamaya, Fahrenheit88, which stocks phone deco crystals for a ridiculously cheap price!

  • Light-coloured nail polish (we used Anna Sui Nail Color N, RM54)
  • Topcoat
Step-by-step

Step 1: Prep nails by removing all traces of oil from the surface (see here for details).

Step 2: Apply base coat to protect nails from turning yellow.

Step 3: Paint on two coats of nail polish. If you like you can break the monotony with a contrasting, darker shade, like how we did.

Step 4: After the nail polish has dried, trim the deco crystals to the right size/length, and stick them on your nails.

Step 5: Finish with top coat so that the crystals adhere better and stay on longer.

On average, blinged-up manicures don’t really last that long, especially if, like any other normal person, you need to do household chores. We’d say they stretch up to 4 days max, but if you feel some crystals coming loose, touch up with a fresh coat of topcoat. :)

Enjoy your weekend, Gemmers!
