Muslim-friendly makeup brands by Malaysian social influencers

It’s hard to remember a time when bloggers were practically unheard-of; a far cry from the level of influence these aptly-coined influencers have over the general public nowadays. Even the big brands, which at first shunned the blogging community with much scepticism, stating reasons such as ‘they don’t fit into our brand credo’, or ‘it’s not part of our image to engage bloggers’, have jumped on the bandwagon after realizing how much is at stake. It’s a huge cake, and everyone wants a slice.

Fashion bloggers that have done so well they’re practically celebrities include Chiara Ferragni of The Blonde Salad, Bryan Grey Yambao or better known as Bryanboy, Rumi Neely of Fashion Toast, and the list goes on.

As with many fashion influencers who have since come up with their own brands or have collaborated with the who’s who in the industry at some point, there’s also a lot of attention placed on beauty influencers who have made their mark.

Who can forget Michelle Phan’s short-lived (and much-debated) Em Cosmetics with L’Oreal – she was one of the very first pioneers to have her success immortalized in a makeup line. The deal with L’Oreal has since gone bust, but the brand is making a comeback with a much smaller, but way cooler product selection.

Even Malaysia has our share of beauty influencers, each well-versed in their own brand of content. We bring you four of our favourite makeup brands which have progressed past merely churning out matte lip creams:

1) Breena Beauty

Must Have Eye Brush Kit Breena Beauty (3)

In 2015, Sabrina Tajudin launched her own line of vegan, cruelty-free makeup brushes called Breena Beauty. The brushes became a big hit for their stellar quality and incredibly affordable price point. The brand has also recently launched its Velvetcreme Matte Liquid Lipsticks, a collection of 9 shades to suit all skin tones.

This isn’t the first time we’ve written about DIDA, but it deserves another mention for going the extra mile to include an eyeshadow palette and a liquid eyeliner in its repertoire. Starting out with four Velvet Matte Lip Creme shades, DIDA now has more than 10 stunning lip colours in either matte or metallic-matte finishes. The brand was founded by Tengku Chanela Jamidah (real-life royalty!) and Didie Nasir, both style icons on Instagram.

3) Syed Faizal Beauty

Makeup artist Syed Faizal Syed Noh has worked his magic on countless celebrities and personalities in Malaysia. He introduced BIBIR, a line of liquid lip colours that promptly sold out many times over online, and has now expanded his makeup brand to include MATA, two mini-palettes with four ultra-pigmented shades apiece. Palette #1 is warmer, and Palette #2 is cooler, but we’re loving both, actually!

4) Sugarbelle Cosmetic

What started out as a humble scarf brand has turned into an empire that proudly produces a full line of makeup and perfumes. Founded in 2015 by Eyqa Sulaiman of Sugarscarf and Belle Al Yahya of Bella Ammara, Sugarbelle Cosmetic carries one of the biggest makeup selections produced by a Malaysian company, complete with eyeshadows, mascara, eyeliner, lipsticks, matte lip crèmes and even EDP sprays!
