A funny man? Or a good looking man? Personally I prefer a guy who can make me laugh and have a good time. But to each their own, right? Others might prefer differently.

Of course it would be great if we could have both! (Hah!) But that rarely happens where we can actually get the whole package. Soooo…if given a choice, which would you opt for?

Let’s look at the pros and cons of dating a good looking guy:

Pros:

  • He’s hot!
  • You’re proud to show him off because hey! He’s hot!

  • They boost your self esteem because it feels great that this hunk picked you!
  • You feel attracted to him every time you look at him

Cons:

  • He’s hot..and everyone else will think so too!
  • You might get jealous because other girls will have their eye on him too. And girls these days can be quite ruthless when it comes to going after the men they want.
  • You need to be tolerant enough about the reality that he is going to be getting attention from other women

  • You might start to feel insecure about your looks and comparing yourself to other women – wondering if he’s checking them out
  • They might be shallow and too over confident because they ride high on their good looks
  • He might be a player, especially if he’s young.

Now let’s take a look at the pros and cons of dating a funny man:

Pros:

  • He can keep you laughing all the time and there’s never a dull moment when this goofball is around
  • Laughter is the best medicine
  • You’ll be riding high on positive energy because people who make you laugh make you feel good

  • They can look on the lighter side of things
  • You’ll find that looks aren’t everything and it’s more important to have someone who you can talk to and laugh with
  • He’ll be able to make your friends laugh too
  • People enjoy being around him

Cons:

  • You might get annoyed at times especially when he’s not being serious when you want him to be
  • He might not be taken seriously at times because of his reputation as the “joker” or the “funny one”

  • Sometimes funny guys try too hard. The worst is when they try so hard their jokes end up being lame
  • Some types of humor might be offensive to some people
  • Humor can sometimes be misunderstood

So which would you prefer?

Top 5 Favorite Eye Creams Must Haves http://www2.emmagem.com/2012/02/03/top-5-favorite-eye-creams-must-haves/?utm_source=rss&utm_medium=rss&utm_campaign=top-5-favorite-eye-creams-must-haves http://www2.emmagem.com/2012/02/03/top-5-favorite-eye-creams-must-haves/#comments Fri, 03 Feb 2012 02:58:14 +0000 yetmee http://www2.emmagem.com/?p=34807 H2O aquafirm+ Eye Lift Concentrate and aquafirm+ Micro Collagen Eye Cream

What can I say, I am just totally hooked on this eye cream combo. Easy to use, delicate and so comfortable upon application, one for day and one for night. Both boasts of  2 key ingredients – collagen filled marine micro spheres, sea nutrients with enriched marine extracts  whilst eye lift concentrate has added caffeine, which helps reduce puffiness.  And the Micro Collagen has protein rich brown algae for firmer looking skin. I used both night before and one morning after a late night out, the results were quite amazing. Though I felt tired the  next day, the eyes belie the truth. I actually look quite fresh. Used separately with your favorite skincare or teh aquasource+ regime, it is amazing.

Lancome-Renergie Yeux, Multiple lift

This is a revolutionary anti aging for they eyes product. What I love about this one is how comfortably, it is as I applied the rather thick cream onto on my eyes using their special eye contour technique. Just dab onto lower and upper lid, before gently stroking upwards with ring and third finger. After that cover darken areas with the cover cream. This product aims to help  reduce wrinkles around the eyes over time and get cover dark circles immediately. It is meant to give eyes a lift and helps alleviate the droopy eyelid problem, a sign of aging. Easy to apply, no smarting of eyes and a very light cover cream that helps cover the dark circles. Most importantly the eyes actually do look more “opened”. What the trainer said that made absolute sense for someone who avoided eye cream like the plague, was that eyes will wrinkle and if you take care of it, even though you stop for a short while hereafter, the aging effect will be buffered and no more droopy aging eyelids.

Estee  Lauder- Idealist Cooling Eye Illuminator

What is really special is the ceramic tip, it gives a cooling effect whilst applying.  It is intended to massage, de-puff and re-energize eyes. The highly concentrated complex targets  underlying causes of darkness and puffiness for dramatic brightening and de-puffing instantly and over time.

I must say the  I can’t tell the difference with the de-puffing or brightening except that the tinted solution provides some coverage.   But love how easy it is to applying with the cream which bordered on liquid.

SKII- Skin Signature Eye Cream

15gm, a pop, is this cream worth its weight in gold, apparently yes, a scentless cream, feels rich without leaving a thick residue. For  die hard SKII fans, one more winner  for the collection.

A new convert to eye creams, I must say, considering the no smarting and hassle free usage only need to lighten my strokes lest I give myself wrinkles-henceforth my eyes will not show my age for sure.

Beauty Review: L’oreal White Perfect Night Cream http://www2.emmagem.com/2012/02/02/beauty-review-loreal-white-perfect-night-cream/?utm_source=rss&utm_medium=rss&utm_campaign=beauty-review-loreal-white-perfect-night-cream http://www2.emmagem.com/2012/02/02/beauty-review-loreal-white-perfect-night-cream/#comments Thu, 02 Feb 2012 03:32:45 +0000 yetmee http://www2.emmagem.com/?p=35082 Many of us tend to underestimate the need for a night cream, especially if we’re still in our early twenties. We always think “well, there’s still time. Maybe in the next couple of years.” We thus fail to see that following a proper skin care procedure at night is important not only for our skin now but it also helps to prevent premature aging.

Most of us sleep with the air conditioner at full blast and that could inevitably lead to dry skin which gives even greater importance to using a proper night cream.

We tried out L’oreal White Perfect Night Cream over a period of twenty one days and found that it is a nice and basic night cream that can be used for all ages.

The general misconception of night creams would be that it is heavy and oily, making it totally uncomfortable to use. Fortunately L’oreal White Perfect Night Cream banishes those woes as it has a light weight gel like feel to it.

The product also absorbs very quickly into the skin leaving it super soft and supple. We enjoyed also the light scent that it has that was not too over powering and yet at the same time had a relaxing quality to it.

In terms of its said whitening qualities, it is still not a hundred percent convincing. Freckles failed to lighten very much but on the plus side our skin was left smoother and brighter.

Soothing and light, our overall verdict is that it is pleasant albeit not spectacular.

We recommend L’oreal White Perfect Night Cream for those who wish to start on night creams as this would be the perfect, affordable place to begin.

Learning Not To Be Too Sensitive http://www2.emmagem.com/2012/02/01/learning-not-to-be-too-sensitive/?utm_source=rss&utm_medium=rss&utm_campaign=learning-not-to-be-too-sensitive http://www2.emmagem.com/2012/02/01/learning-not-to-be-too-sensitive/#comments Wed, 01 Feb 2012 00:14:32 +0000 elise http://www2.emmagem.com/?p=35051 Are you a sensitive person? Are you able to take head on criticism without feeling overly upset and letting your emotions get the best of you? Do you tend to get upset about personal remarks made about you? For example if a friend were to say “hey! you’ve gained some weight” you immediately start anguishing, feel upset and immediately start to obsess for hours or days about whether what the friend said was true. Do you start obsessing and trying to change to accommodate a remark that was made?

If you easily get offended by what people say about you – even if it may be the truth – then you, my friend, are a sensitive person. If you’ve answered “yes” to any of the above questions, you’re considered a sensitive person. I know sometimes we can’t help it and for some of us, it’s in our nature.

Like myself. I’ll admit I am a sensitive person. My feelings get hurt easily, and I tend to feel angry or upset  with a person (or even hate) for days sometimes if I’m not happy about what they said. My blood pressure rises and at times I have to hold back from responding rudely to a remark because I’m upset. Not a charming trait I know.

Which is why we should all try to be less sensitive. Including me. Or at least I’m learning to be. Why try to make a conscious effort to change? Well, because:

  • Getting angry doesn’t benefit you in anyway – except to give you a higher blood pressure
  • Sometimes friendships or relationships can get affected
  • The person who made the remark – unless they’re a close friend or family member – probably doesn’t give two hoots that they have upset you. Either they may not realize it, or they simply don’t care.

Learning not to be too sensitive or get upset about what people say can be a challenge. Trust me, I know. Especially when that is the automatic reaction you’ve had your whole life. It can be hard to change, but it isn’t impossible.

Here’s how you can learn to be less sensitive:

  • “I Don’t Care!”: That is the simplest and easiest way to do it. Just don’t care! Do you think the person who made the remark cares how you feel at the time they made such a comment? Were they thinking about your feelings? Did they make the comment or fun, or were they being serious? Unless it’s a family member, close friend or someone you care about and vice versa, who cares what other people say? If they don’t care, neither should you.

  • You Can’t Please Everyone: Just remember that people always have their own opinions, and they’re always going to have some comment to make, no matter what you do. Remind yourself that you can’t please everyone and if you’re happy and satisfied, nobody has the right to tell you otherwise.

  • Shrug It Off: For some reason, people just love to pass comments about others. For example Asians, especially, seem to love put on weight (yeah, like we need THAT to be highlighted, thank you very much!) and annoying as it may be, they can’t seem to help themselves. Perhaps they’ve never heard the phrase “If you can’t say something nice, don’t say anything at all”. Personally, I refrain from making comments about people’s weight to their face, and it really annoys me when they don’t share the same courtesy. In any case, when encountering such a situation, if that person really isn’t worth your time, just shrug it off and say”Oh really? Thanks” and walk away. It’s better than getting all worked up for someone you don’t even care about.

  • Distract Yourself: Whenever you feel yourself getting worked up, make a conscious effort to stop and breath. Seriously, it works! Consciously stop, take a few deep breaths and count 1,2,3…. to yourself until you calm down again. Or, choose a distraction method that works best for you. It can be anything that makes you happy or lifts your spirits.

  • It’s Not Worth It: Nothing is worth getting angry and worked up about. Unless it is a genuine comment or remark with the intention to help you improve yourself from someone who really cares, nothing anybody else says is worth getting angry and upset over. If you’re happy, you’re satisfied and you know what works and what’s right for you, then let it be. If other people don’t like it, that’s just too bad. Maybe in time they’ll learn to mind their own business.

Be who you are and do what makes you happy. If you live your life for others and try to please others all the time, you’ll never be fully satisfied. If something works for you and you’re happy with it and it’s not hurting anyone else, just let it be.

Red Carpet- SAG Awards 2012 http://www2.emmagem.com/2012/01/31/red-carpet-sag-awards-2012/?utm_source=rss&utm_medium=rss&utm_campaign=red-carpet-sag-awards-2012 http://www2.emmagem.com/2012/01/31/red-carpet-sag-awards-2012/#comments Mon, 30 Jan 2012 23:34:13 +0000 hannef http://www2.emmagem.com/?p=35056 Another award ceremony has taken place this week. This time around it was the SAG Awards. Never mind the joke that Joan Rivers made about the award show, but the stars on the red carpet last night really gave us fashion. It was like a parade of one beautiful dress after another.

There were a few mishaps here and there with actress like Jenna Ushkowitz in her drab Rebecca Minkoff dress, Jayma Mays with her strange hair and Fashion Police’s Giulianna Rancic who better shoot herself for wearing that Basil Soda dress.

Melissa McCarthy in Badgley Mischka

Octavia Spencer in Tadashi Shoji

The plus-sized actresses looked gorgeous at SAG this year. Melissa McCarthy of “Bridesmaids” opted for drapey long dress from Badgley Mischka while Octavia Spencer of the “The Help” continued her winning streak from the Golden Globe with another design by Tadashi Shoji.

Angelina Jolie in Jenny Packham

Emma Stone in Alexander McQueen

Champagne and nude seemed to be the trend at the last award show last week but this time around black and darker color dominated the red carpet. Even first time movie director Angelina Jolie decided to go back to black after her much praised look at the Golden Globe. Actress Amber Heard donned a black cut-out creation by Zac Posen.  ”The Help” actress Emma Stone was also in black but her’s was vintage-inspired dress by Alexander McQueen.

Sophia Vergara in Marchesa

Lea Michele in Versace

Sexy siren like Sophia Vergara of “Modern Family” decided to stay within her comfort zone sporting the same combination of mermaid train and low neckline by Marchesa. Glee’s Lea Michele has been trying very hard to look the part and for SAG this year she decided to channel her inner Donatella with sleek hair, a Versace dress with thigh high slit and of course her usual red-carpet pose.

Zoe Saldana in Givenchy Haute Couture

Tilda Swinton in Lanvin

Kristen Wigg in Balenciaga

Just like yin and yang, Tilda Swinton, Zoe Saldana and Kristen Wigg went on a total opposite direction by wearing white. “Columbiana” actress, Zoe Saldana embellished white dress was by Givenchy but there’s something odd about the tank-top that she wore under the dress. It looks  like Eminem’s wife-beaters. Tilda Swinton was in Lanvin and “Bridesmaids” leading lady, Kristen Wigg dress was from Balenciaga.

Who’s your best dressed at Screen Actors Guild this year?

Food Review – Watami Japanese Casual Restaurant http://www2.emmagem.com/2012/01/30/food-review-watami-japanese-casual-restaurant/?utm_source=rss&utm_medium=rss&utm_campaign=food-review-watami-japanese-casual-restaurant http://www2.emmagem.com/2012/01/30/food-review-watami-japanese-casual-restaurant/#comments Mon, 30 Jan 2012 05:24:29 +0000 stephanie http://www2.emmagem.com/?p=34978 My Chinese New Year resolution is to be adventurous as I can be and not to be too loyal to one type of food or restaurant, so I can explore different foods and expand  my tastebuds. I randomly picked Watami Japanese Casual Restaurant that serves fusion Japanese food without much recommendation and most of all because it is still new in One Utama since its opening on 22nd of November 2011.

The seat is segregated so that conversation is not overheard to assure privacy, unless you are a loud speaker. I feel more secure here after experiencing an unknown hand reaching from the back seat diners for the menu on my table without bothering to ask in one of the other Japanese restaurant.

I am quite pleased with the service as the staff is courteous. One of them even advised us to avoid eye contact with the wet tissue provided because it contains alcohol. In this place, the staff also practice the half kneeling Japanese culture so that they look into the same eye level while taking order.

Unagi Kamameshi (eel pot rice) (RM19.90). Kamameshi (the pot is called ‘kama’ and meshi means rice in Japaense) is a traditional Japanese dish cook in iron pot and the rice will become slightly crisp at the bottom, something similar to Chinese ‘bou zai fan’ or ‘nga bou chicken rice’. I was eager to try out because there are not many places serving kamameshi.

The rice is cooked in chicken stock and I was asked not to remove the cover during the cooking process. The coal will black off itself after 20 minutes and the flavour of the soup and other ingredients such as mushroom, fried egg slices and carrot slice have been fully absorbed into the short grained Japanese rice.

Nori slices and spring onion chunks are served as topping. I was disappointed with the unagi slices as they served only five slices instead of the generous amount shown in the menu. It tastes how it should be but it would be better if the unagi is served hot. Japanese pepper (sansyo) that is produced from ground dried leaves of prickly ash tree is commonly used on unagi (especially grilled) to increase flavour. I would say it tastes mild and not as spicy as white pepper.

Ika Maruyaki (grilled whole squid) (RM17.90), appetizer while waiting for the pot rice to be ready. Marinated with teriyaki sauce and served with Japanese mayonnaise. You would be surprise that even the tentacle is not dried and I am satisfied because it looks exactly the same size shown in the menu, yummy!

The price is reasonable and comfortable to dine in. Kari-kari pasta is an interesting appetizer- deep fried pasta, must not miss this when you dine there. This restaurant does not serve pork  but they do have a range of Japanese alcohol beverages.

Why Friendships Dwindle After Marriage? http://www2.emmagem.com/2012/01/29/why-friendship-dwindles-after-marriage/?utm_source=rss&utm_medium=rss&utm_campaign=why-friendship-dwindles-after-marriage http://www2.emmagem.com/2012/01/29/why-friendship-dwindles-after-marriage/#comments Sat, 28 Jan 2012 23:21:35 +0000 hannef http://www2.emmagem.com/?p=35023 A friend recently got married in a lavish wedding to a wealthy businessman. Despite being a huge ceremony, she decided not to invite all of her friends because she was scared of having  too many guest at the ceremony which his husband’s family paid for. It was rather strange but those who were lucky enough to get invited showed up anyway.

We were not at all surprised when we started to hear less and less of her after the wedding until she completely disappeared. We’ve heard and experienced  friendship which dies out after marriage before. Husband will come first and when kids are  in the picture, that is really the ultimate ending to pretty much everything. But why is that so? Does it always have to be that way? Is there any logical explanation to why friendship always dwindles after marriage?

Once your friend got married, her priority will change. She will be busy juggling between her job and maintaining the household. Aside from that, there’s always a sense of detachment as their life is no longer the same and it’s no longer about boys and date nights. Plus the fact that, girls night out is not as much fun when the husband tagged along.

Now how to maintain the friendship after marriage? It’s not entirely impossible. Both parties will have to make some efforts. Here’s how:

Don’t expect too much from your married friends especially when it comes to time spent together. They might not be there all the time but if they still make an effort to call and check on you every once in a while, it shows that they still care. If you want to meet up for lunch or dinner, tell them in advance so that they can work it around their tight schedules.

If you’re married, resist the urge to talk about your marital bliss and your baby’s first word. Not that you can’t talk about it at all but these are your single friends. They do want to hear about you but give them chance to talk about their lives as well.

As for the married couples, they should be more understanding towards each other. Talk to your spouse about how important it is for you to spend time with your friends every now and then.

But if you have tried everything and it just doesn’t seem to work out, maybe it’s time to find a new group of friends. There is nothing wrong with that because friendship always come and go. It’s pointless to keep on trying to make things work with someone who doesn’t seem to care in the first place.

What do you think? Tell us

Shopping: Stress Buster Or Just An Excuse To Spend? http://www2.emmagem.com/2012/01/28/shopping-stress-buster-or-just-an-excuse-to-spend/?utm_source=rss&utm_medium=rss&utm_campaign=shopping-stress-buster-or-just-an-excuse-to-spend http://www2.emmagem.com/2012/01/28/shopping-stress-buster-or-just-an-excuse-to-spend/#comments Fri, 27 Jan 2012 19:59:30 +0000 elise http://www2.emmagem.com/?p=34800 Put your hands in the air if – like me – you’re one of those girls that relieves stress by going on a shopping spree. I don’t know about the rest of you, but at the end of every work week, I like to indulge in a little retail therapy. And before you gasp in horror, no I don’t make massive purchases every single week. Sometimes it’s an occassional little item like a cheap pair of earrings even that can put a smile on my face and make things seem so much better.

Shopping is indeed a favorite past time for many women, and yes, I do believe that it serves as an excellent stress reliever to boot. Come on ladies admit it, don’t you just feel your spirits lift and soar when you’ve purchase something? Even if it something small? You walk into a shopping center all stressed out and moody from a bad day you’ve had, and when you’ve purchased something new, your mood automatically lifts a couple of notches, am I right?

OK sure you spend a little money when you could be saving it, but nobody is asking you to make massive bulk purchases or anything. If you happen to see something reasonably priced or on sale that you’ve been eyeing, why not get it?

Here’s how you can use shopping as a stress reliever without breaking your bank account:

  • Be Sensible: Yes you’re stressed out and in need of a little pick me up, but don’t go crazy grabbing every single thing that gets you’re attention. As long as you keep your head and be sensible about your purchases you should be fine.

  • Proceed With  A Budget: The best way to go on a retail therapy session is with a set budget in mind. And don’t exceed it. Leave your credit cards at home if you have to and just go with a fixed amount of cash.

  • Keep It Under Control: Don’t simply buy something just for the sake of buying it. Think about whether you really can use it, will use it or need it. And whether or not if fits well and suits you.

  • Don’t Use Credit Cards: The best way not to overspend. Just go with cash.

Beauty Review- Clairol Herbal Essences Smooth Lovin’ Conditioning Treatment http://www2.emmagem.com/2012/01/27/beauty-review-clairol-herbal-essences-smooth-lovin-conditioning-treatment/?utm_source=rss&utm_medium=rss&utm_campaign=beauty-review-clairol-herbal-essences-smooth-lovin-conditioning-treatment http://www2.emmagem.com/2012/01/27/beauty-review-clairol-herbal-essences-smooth-lovin-conditioning-treatment/#comments Fri, 27 Jan 2012 04:01:34 +0000 janis http://www2.emmagem.com/?p=34896 Hair. A subject that has been discussed almost to death. There are hundreds of products on the market that cater to the crowning glory of both men and women alike.

We perm it, straighten it, colour it and subject it to all sorts of abuse till it looks like a stack of hay on our heads and then we regret. We spend the next couple of months lovingly tending to it before succumbing again to the temptation of chemicals and heating irons.

Perpetually looking for products to make our locks even more luscious, we went popped into a few shops and ended up buying Clairol Herbal Essences Smooth Lovin’ smooth and weighty intense conditioning treatment to try out.

Aesthetically, its packaging stood out, being orange with some green thrown in. It had a funky fun feel to it.  Upon seeing the Clairol Herbal Essences Smooth Lovin’ on the shelf, the first thing we did was pop open the tube and take a quick whiff.

Clairol Herbal Essences Smooth Lovin’ had a pleasant but not too overpowering scent. It was a bit reminiscent of a generic perfume really but overall not a bad scent.

The real test came when shower hour rolled around. Apparently you use it after you shampoo and condition and only a tiny bit is needed each time.

As we opened the tube and squeezed out a blob, what we realized was that it was a lot less thick than we expected of an intensive conditioning product.

The texture of Clairol Herbal Essences Smooth Lovin’ can be said to be very much thinner and feels more watery than many conditioners out in the market.

Knowing better than to pre-judge we still gave it the chance it deserved and boy, are we glad we did.

Applying Clairol Herbal Essences Smooth Lovin’ to the hair was a quick task, it was almost as if it had special detangling powers! After massaging it into our hair, we could run our fingers from our scalp to the tips with almost no snag at all.

Rinsing off after a minute, according to instructions, was easy as well. With its light texture, we could rinse it off without much fuss and it did not leave residue.

The scent that the product carries also does not really stay on the hair so its not much to worry about or to take into consideration.

We allowed our hair to dry naturally to see results and we are pleased to announce that results are better than expected.

Hair is now loads softer and weightier. It is less frizzy and is easier to manage. We say it is a great treatment for frequent home use!

Gaultier Pays Tribute to Amy Winehouse http://www2.emmagem.com/2012/01/26/gaultier-pays-tribute-to-amy-winehouse/?utm_source=rss&utm_medium=rss&utm_campaign=gaultier-pays-tribute-to-amy-winehouse http://www2.emmagem.com/2012/01/26/gaultier-pays-tribute-to-amy-winehouse/#comments Wed, 25 Jan 2012 23:13:42 +0000 hannef http://www2.emmagem.com/?p=34989 We were all devastated over the passing of our favorite bad-girl Amy Winehouse July last year. It was another case of gone too soon when she seemed to have a lot more to offer with her despicable talent and undeniable presence in the industry.

Her posthumous album Lioness: The Hidden Treasures was released late last year compiling previously unreleased tracks along with  some demo versions of her previous hits. Critics were not pleased as the album is just a collection of leftovers and more like a tribute to the celebrated talent of the late songstress.

But designer Jean-Paul Gaultier gave us a whole different kind of tribute. He dedicated his entire Spring 2012 collection at Paris Fashion Week to Amy Winehouse.

Everything was inspired by Winehouse from the beehive and “Monroe piercing” down to the fifties-inspired pieces and cigarette. But still the entire collection has JPG written all over it. Gaultier even remodeled his famous corset to suit Winehouse’s style. Jean-Paul Gaultier also gave us Winehouse-inspired voluminous prom dress, belted pencil skirts worn with loose button-front shirts as well as sheer dresses and polka-dots. The most sought-after Winehouse collaboration with Fred Perry was also noticeably present in the form of reworked polo shirts.

Serbian androgynous male model Andrej Pejic headlined the show sporting a blonde wig and intricate multi-colored dress.

Gaultier in a backstage interview with WWD talked about how “Amy Winehouse was truly a fashion icon,” and he “felt compelled to celebrate her style because magazines have failed to do so.”

Chanel has done a similar tribute to Amy Winehouse for its Fall 2008 collection but this is not about who’s doing it first. The clothes are gorgeous and the usual JPG’s detailing are as intricate as ever. Amy Winehouse would have been proud. RIP.
