Beli-belah guna ‘tetikus’

Oleh Fairuz Zaidan
fairuzaidan@bharian.com.my

Mudah bukan?

Itulah keseronokan online shopping.

Fashionable Enviromental Friendly Bags!

Jun 8, 2008 Author: karenmarie | Filed under: Fashion, Lifestyle, Shop Online, Specials, Tips

I came across Envirosax way back when i was writing about environmental friendly bags last month. I thought, wow, these bags are really cute, way cuter than the ones we get from shopping malls.

To refresh your memory, here’s an excerpt:

Here are some reasons why you should stop taking plastic bags:

  • It is estimated that 500 billion plastic bags are used and discarded worldwide every year.
  • 1 million plastic bags are used and discarded worldwide every minute of the day.
  • Single use plastic bags made of HDPE remain in the environment for up to approx. 1,000 years.
  • Over 100,000 birds, whales, seals and turtles worldwide are killed by plastic rubbish every year.
Source: Envirosax, a company that sells eco friendly bags in Australia

Plastic bags are non biodegradable and it is killing sea animals like these turtles in Malaysia.

Most of the major shopping malls in KL (like 1 Utama, Bangsar Village, Jusco etc.) has already adopted the eco-friendly bags in their stores.

So, try to reduce using plastic bags, take baby steps. . .

  • If you’re at 7-11 for chewing gum and a bottle of water, carry the bottle in your hands and put the gum in your bag.
  • If you’re shopping with a large enough bag, put your clothes in your bag and keep the receipt properly (you do not want to be questioned for shoplifting!)
  • Most importantly, carry a eco-friendly bag with ya!

I believe if we all do this together, we will make a difference.

Admit it, I know some of you love those plastic bags from your favourite shops because it is so pretty! I’ve seen this lady in the Body Shop who asked for an extra plastic bag. What better way to carry your clothes/stuff in pretty but also reusable bags?

Envirosax is not only too pretty, it also serves as a fashionable reusable bag that are light weight and can be used repeatedly!

Envirosax is now available in Malaysia!:D :D :D I want one!!

MIkado

Monochrome

Flora

Retails at RM26 each or RM110 in packs of 5 bags like the above.

Yves Saint Laurent -Spring Summer 2008 Makeup

Jun 7, 2008 Author: yetmee | Filed under: Beauty, Fashion, Specials

“I wanted a face for the woman I dress.”-Yves Saint Laurent

Spring Summer 2008 color was specially designed to commemorate 30 years of make up and it was inspired by love greeting cards designed by Yves Saint Laurent and sent to his friends as a sign of his affection. The YSL woman is at once romantic and flirty with soft shades, luxuriating in textures and at once easy to apply.

Application tips from Yannick Vaudry-Palette Pop Collector Powder Face and Cheeks

Take up and blend all three colours with the brush and apply over your entire face. Then brush on the colours of the flowers as you would a blush, or use the light powder to mattify or subtly shade the glow effect.

Application tips from Yannick Vaudry-Pop Stick Blush

A new kind of blush to be applied before powder: smile to make your cheekbones stand out. Apply this delicious fruity gel to give them transparent highlights. Blend with your fingertips and smooth the excess on just beneath your eyebrows and on your earlobes to complete this natural-looking touch of radiance.

Application tips from Yannick Vaudry-Eye Colour Touch Water Resistant Eye Shadow

A click is all it takes to apply shadow on both eyes. Apply solo for a subtle monochrome halo or above eyeliner to create an elegant blend. These “ready-to-seduce” shades glorify the eyes in thirty seconds flat.

Spiked Drinks

Jun 6, 2008 Author: yetmee | Filed under: Health, Lifestyle, Specials

We’ve heard of date rape, Rohinol, spiked drinks and all, well check out the video below, see , how easily and unsuspectingly it can be done…

Hey, pays to be safe than sorry.. next time you’re out partying , make sure that you take care of you and your drink. Keep it within vision, never leave drink unattended and not even with close friends… they’re out to have fun too , not play watch dog to your gin and tonic …When I am out with my girlfriends there is an unspoken pact we look out for each other, but if you watch the video, you can’t blame anyone if something goes wrong cos, bad people can be very, very tricky…

I mean I always wonder at people whom I meet at a dinner table or a party for like half an hour and they would ask me to “just watch out” for their handbags or their drinks. I mean I look quite the fierce and honest type and I am a girl , but you never know , people can be in cahoots with someone else, surely you have watch enough movies and read the newspapers about girls who lure other girls …

So don’t bring large handbags that needs “taking care of” . I don’t deny it is troublesome to dance with a drink in hand and a large handbag, but either get creative or don’t order drink if you wanna dance…okay that is just me! You might better alternatives.

Also ensure that you only go home with people you know and want too, in the case of a sloshed girlfriend , you might wanna look out for her, that she is of coherent thought should you see her with some stranger who is cosying up on her…

Sorry if I am nagging and carrying on and if you have seen this video before….see it again..

How to?:E-Banking

May 26, 2008 Author: karenmarie | Filed under: Fashion, How to, Shop Online, Specials

How to shop online effectively like a true online shopper?

We at emmagem are going to attempt to write a series of articles on how to shop online effectively and how to set up an awesome online shop!:) Here’s our first one, E-Banking!

Online shopping is supposed to be hassle free and everything is a click away (Okay, so a few clicks away)! But, it becomes a hassle when we have to actually walk (or drive) all the way to the nearby bank and slowly deposit your cash on the machine, or eve worst, take a number to deposit it to the bank!! So annoying right, imagine, the hot scorching sun shining on your skin and the sweat dripping all over your face after you’ve finally found a parking 3 blocks away in the over crowded SS15!

Haih. All that hassle. One way to shop online the bestest and most convenient way is to get an online banking account! Many banks has already joined the bandwagon to have online services that can help online shoppers and buyers alike to track their accounts online. IF you’re a seller, I’m sure you must have already have a e-banking account to check to see if your customers has already banked in the money. :D

These banks are:

  1. Maybank2u
  2. CIMB Clicks
  3. Hong Leong Bank Online Banking
  4. EON Bank Internet Banking
  5. Public e-Bank
  6. PayPal
  7. Any other banks i’ve missed out?

I’ve only used Maybank2u before, so I will review Maybank2u’s services for now. :) If you’ve been using any other services, comment and tell us whats good and whats bad about your service. But i assume that these e-banking services have almost the same services. We’re only interested in one of their service anyways, FUNDS TRANSFER! (more…)

Everyone’ s going green and I don’t mean with envy but rather about saving the environment because if we all don’t start playing our part , there won’t be much of this green planet left. These days , recycling awareness from shopping bags to soda cans is ever increasing and people now realize that one of the most important things is to recycle and reduce or stop the usage of plastic bottles, plastic bags, styrofoam cups and containers (when “ta- pau” ot take -away).

I am a newbie at this green thing, I mean I grew up with plastic bags and styrofoam cups , so convenient as if my bag isn’t heavy enough with my two makeup pouches , wallet, keys, notebook (very important for business) , hand phone (akin to my whole life ,cannot live without) and oh, loads of coins , what now I must carry extra cotton bag and bring own cup and maybe saucer too.

But more and more, I am beginning to realize that if I love myself and don’t want to roast from the thinning ozone layers and drown from the melting icebergs , that is if I don’t expire first from getting poisoned after years of eating and drinking off styrofoam cups and containers, then I better start playing my small part. And as the famous Buddhist monk said on his death bed…”if only I saw the wisdom of changing myself first , I might have eventually influenced the people around me to change from my example and then perhaps I would have changed the world…”.

Well I ain’t no monk, but I do believe , everything starts from one, one intention, one small action and it always starts with one’s self first…

Lucky for me, a lot of people think like I do ( so less work on my part ,phew! just need to get more people to think alike …). Two very talented ladies have started showcasing some of their very creative conservation artworks, Miss Lisa Foo( architect and designer of EMMA House, pls look forward to our interview with her next week) and Miss Su Sim (landscape designer), I first saw some of their works at the Art Fair at The Annexe, you mite have read my article or not (shame on you, if you didn’t :-)) and I was mighty impressed , so I bought one of the table lamps featured and I am so thrilled by it….yea! I also bought a wood block covered with a page about wheels from an early encyclopedia (it’s old , it’s old), these two blocks connected by 2 hinges each has a word on it -”rot ” and “ate” but together they “rotate”, cool or what! The wood block is by Fabian Tan (another architect) .

Randy Pausch’s Last Lecture

Have you ever stop to think , what if today is it …the end, finito , end of the line! A little morbid for a sunny Saturday morning, well it is actually more than a little morbid for any time of day or week. There is no good time however for such a thoght but then again maybe right now, right this minute is as good a time as any! The video I have attached, that have been viewed more than a million(perhaps you have already too but watch again:-)) , will perhaps shed some light as to my need to share this “joy” of a brilliant saturday morning. It is a video (from Oprah Winfrey’s Show) about appreciating the present; if you ever think life threw you a raw deal , think again and perhaps you will see that life throws you ” gifts” in funny ways and that there is a silver lining in every cloud and that we, as in you and I, really get to see and decide if the glass of our life is half full or empty! Enjoy or complain; be brave or be not…you decide!

I have been trying my very best to stop taking plastic bags from shops (Carrying a HUGE bag helps too!). You should try it. It is a simple way of helping mother earth. Think about how much plastic you take every time you go for a shopping spree day. . . All that plastic bag usage can be reduced if we had an alternative eco-friendly bag instead!

It was a fad when Anya Hindmarch launched her recycling bag “I am not a plastic bag”. For a moment there, everyone was carrying an eco-friendly bag (well, most of them for the wrong reasons). But, still, the idea is to stop using plastic bags. Here are some reasons why you should stop taking plastic bags: (more…)

Question: Plus sized clothes [Updated!]

Another question by Lyn:)

Hey Karen, great job on the online directory :) But every link I click only has clothes from sizes 6-8, and realistically speaking, I’m sure there are tons of other girls who are NOT midgets. Any of the local sites stock bigger size stuff?

Here’s an update on e-shops/shops that sell plus sized clothes:)
