The Petronas Gallery launched an art exhibition that features twelve emerging artists on Friday, the 29th August 2008. The artists are Ahmad Zuraimi Abdul Rahim, Elias Yamani Ismail, Fabian Tan, Kamal Mustafa, Khairul Azril Ismail , Maslin Md. Ramly, Mohd Afifee Ibrahim, Mohd. Fuad Md Arif, Mohd. Saharuddin Supar, Nadhirah Anuar, Safrizal Shahir and Tan Sei Hon. Some of my personal favorites are Ahmad Zuraimi Abdul Rahim’s works, Fabian Tan’s corner art , Nadhirah Anuar’s scroll art and Tan Sei Hon’s mandalas.

The artist and the artworks selected were due to their innovation in using fresh and unique approaches in the making of their art. They are also in the forefront of new media including reinventing the classical art practices like painting, print making and sculpture. This show is about the process of creativity and how and why an artist make his or her works. The exhibition is entitled thus because the curator wants to show that art is a process that continues to evolve. It is an exhibition that delves into the thoughts and perceptions of of an artist’s mind and it is meant to spur greater interest and forms of creativity among emerging artists , art fraternity and especially among the young so that Malaysia would produce more creative citizens. There are growing numbers of online shops now with mailing lists. They send their updates to their customers which are fine by anyone who has subscribed to their shop’s mailing list. For those who love updates, it is really a great tool.

What is worrying is that the emails come one after another sometimes a few times in a day. It gets worst when there are a few shops using the same mailing list emails because they just copied the emails from another blog shop’s mailing list. A few people has emailed us asking emmagem if we have sent out their emails to online shops. DISCLAIMER: EMMAGEM DO NOT SHARE ANYONE’S EMAILS FROM OUR SUBSCRIPTION. We like to keep them sacred as they are our readers :D. No, we do not do such things. If there’s any emails coming from us, it will be signed by either me or yetmee and with official emmagem emails like these- karenmarie@emmagem.com/yetmee@emmagem.com. So it is legitimate.

I understand, it gets quite annoying to see your inbox filled with emails from people whom you do not even subscribe to. What’s even worst is that when asked to be removed from the list, they do not reply the person. When you send emails out to people who are not interested, its called SPAMMING. Spamming is unacceptable because it is very annoying, lah! :/

How NOT to spam emails to shopaholics’ inboxes?

1. Only send out emails to your OWN subscribers.
2. DO NOT steal emails from forwarding messages and send your updates to them.
3. Use the BCC Function on emails. So that you do not share your subscriptions’ emails with everyone else to be stolen.
4. ALLOW people to unsubscribe to the mailing list at any time by providing means to do so. Usually people just have to click reply and type “unsubscribe�.
5. DO take out people who unsubscribed to your mailing list.Do not just ignore their emails.
6. Sign your name with your shop’s name to be legitimate.

We hope that ALL blogshops who are sending mailing lists updates abide by these guides to avoid being called spams. You want to have a good impression to your customers!

To everyone being spammed, email the spammers and tell them that you want out, if not the emails will never stop coming.

Emmagem has always been about the 18 to 24 year olds glampots, but what about the older women? This segment is to answer a request from a reader to show ladies and their styles for the mid 30′ s and above …

Emmagem went out in search of some fashionable , deemed by a lot as “auntie aged” ladies but don’t play play cos these ladies come really packed in high style and glam, after all they have the advantage of age and yes, vintage is very in at the moment and yes, women are like wine, we are smoother and better in quality as we age. There has been a definite revival of vintage in respect of of women in their prime from mid thirties to mid forties , who are really living it up and enjoying and loving themselves very much… look at the recent revival of models like (Vogue did a photoshoot of them togetheras sort of a 20 year anniversary of sorts) Claudia Schiffer, Naomi Campbell, Christy Turlington, these were supermodels in the 1980’s who wouldn’t rise from their beds for anything less than USD10k a day. Then look again at the top Asian faces like Maggie Cheung , Carina Lau and Michelle Reis, late thirties early forties , but they still got that IT factor.

What they have is not youth, but rather youthfulness and certain depth of maturity that can only come with age and having lived through the ages and all that came along with it , sweet, sour , bitter and definitely the spiciness of life and yes , the exuberance for life, the live and let live attitude. So , yes , some of them may be your mother’s age, but never underestimate that your mother can probably give you a good run for your money because style is not defined by age … and let them be inspirations to the young… Hey , I don’t know about you , but I wanna be as fit and wealthy, sorry I mean healthy as Madonna when I turn fifty , so make it sooner rather later yeah!!

Our first KL in the Prime feature is Mohnee, visual merchandiser and business owner…age 43, mother of two young boys . She is in the creative business therefore her work outfit shows that part of her. Functional yet fashionable…

Well, 2008 Olympics is coming to an end…let’s celebrate the victories and defeats in equal measures because competition at the end of day is really competing against oneself and true sportmanship will prevail. Hey , even Malaysia won a silver medal , so that ’s not too bad….

Unfortunately that’s how everybody thinks that silver medal was as good as it gets because although Lee Chong Wei did a brilliant job and got to the finals at the end of the day , the real question is did he really believe he deserved to win the gold medal (judging from his performance). For that matter did the whole country… or did everyone think well,he’s come so far that is pretty good and against China, well silver shud be acceptable…did we really believe he will win , or did we want to see him win but deep down believing he never had a chance . And if we did , what does that say about us in times of challenge , when will we believe we are good enough? Just a thought…

Anyway, today we will celebrate the fact that beauty and talent can go hand in hand in this modern times. In fact beauty with brains and or brawn is quite in style and necessary. (more…)

NEW BAZAAR/FLEA MARKET in town!

Chics Closet is the name of the bazaar and it means a closetful of events & surprises!

There will be online shops and fashionistas selling their clothes (and other stuff they do not need) offline there!
 

This event will be collaborated with WIP Cafe (Souled Out Hartamas sister cafe) and BSC (Bangsar Shopping Complex).

Who should open a booth for this bazaar?

• Shopaholics with a little too many “brand new with tags” clothes, please lah, if you don’t want to use them, sell them off to a more deserving owner.
• Hoarders with too many things at home until they cannot walk around the house. Do a spring clean, and go sell the old old antique stuff that you bought in 1998.
• Shopaholics who wants new clothes, so must sell their old clothes. 
• Online shops who wants to sell offline and see what’s it like to be an offline sales shop.
• Cupcake bakers!
• Tarot card readers
• Dan lain-lain

A booth will be charged a minimum fee. Contact the organizers for more information. Its based on first come and first serve basis and there are limited spaces, come, come sign up fast fast!:)

So now we know, she wasn’t born with it, it was Maybelline’s lipstick!!! Maybe she’s born with it, Maybe its Maybelline! lols. 

Luscious, pouty lip effect, yums. I’ve been given the opportunity to try on the lipstick at a Make Up Party held by Nuffnang and Maybelline. It was awesome, because we get to try on all Maybelline products But no, we don’t get to keep them all. Although I would love to have them all. A few of us bloggers were invited for the make up party. Two of them were make up reviewers/bloggers (and pros in my opinion on make up) Paint-Me-Gorgeous and Mywomenstuff.  Owh, owh, I also met Cheesie of Cheeserland aka Ringo of Malaysian Dreamgirl Finalist and also Audrey of fourfeetnine (ok, I jakun, cos i secretly stalk these girls’ blog once in a while).

Anyways, back to the party, let me show you all (okay, some of) the products that were there for our Make Up Party. Its like, whoa, such a girly party with all the make up available for us to play around and test the product. The only thing that were missing were clothes and pink walls. -_-

SO MANY. This was before we rummaged through all the make up and made a huge mess:) 

The many eye shadow color palettes which comes with a 4-step instruction. 

Mascara that I personally use - Volum’Express is awesome. They also have eye liners in liquid or pencil form and eye brow pencils which comes with the brush.  

Liquid, Mousse and Powdered foundations under Maybelline

There were so many water shine lip glosses that we got to try on. Now I know what’s my colour and can go get one:) 

Our task was simple. We had to just have fun and doll ourselves up with the make up and use the new Maybelline’s Watershine 3D Collagen Lipstick to finish off the look!

Us being girls, went straight to the make up treasure chest and started make up-ing. 

So many many make up. Cheesie and Audrey don’t know where to start. 

Rub rub, blend, blend. Audrey putting on make up on Cassandra. 

Someone trying on Eye Liner. I’ve always used pencil eye liner. I’ve yet to master the art of liquid eye liner!

We took turns to do make ups for each other and ourselves. It was really fun as we got to learn from each other the do’s and don’ts of the art of make up-ing. I myself haven’t mastered the art of eye shadow, so the lovely Cassandra of Paint-Me-Gorgeous did my eye make up that day.

She actually did only one eye and I followed her lead for the other eye. I put on the Maybelline’s Watershine 3D Collagen Lipstick and wa-la and i’m done:) The lipstick was really smooth when applying. It looks uber shiny with hints of glitters on the main colour. It would work wonders if you put on lip gloss too. Added shine!:)
