You’re shopping for new clothes and thinking about your plans for Chinese New Year. If you’re married, you’ve probably worked a plan out to divide time between your family and your husband’s. If you’re single, you’re most likely to be spending it with your family. It definitely beats the hassle of sharing your time but if you’re of “marriageable age,” will you be faced with The Question?
I’ve always wondered why family members discuss or “joke” about their single daughters, nieces, cousins, etc. I thought it was supposed to be a joyous occasion. The last thing a single woman needs is to be reminded of their lack of a man. It’s especially agonising when they say ‘Maybe next year we’ll get to meet the lucky man.’ Now isn’t that just great? Not only have they annoyed you, they’ve also given you a time span to find this so-called man. So if you don’t find one, not only was this CNY painful, you’re actually guaranteed the same feeling for next year!
How does a single woman deal with such situations? I’m sure there have been times when comments passed irked you. Maybe it just gets to us so much because they’re really just voicing out what’s going on in our heads anyway. Instead, maybe we should laugh it off or ignore the question completely. You could always use my technique of looking really annoyed so that such questions are minimised… of course at the expense of now being known as the ‘touchy single one!’ However single women have chosen to deal with these moments, they definitely deserve an applause. And for those already married, please don’t mortify those single female relatives. You know, we single ones might just see it as a way of venting out your feelings of having to be with the in-laws!

Nonetheless, there are many couples in today’s global community that are braving this challenge. Anyone who has been in a long distance relationship knows that just like a couple living together, there both good and bad moments. It is obviously frustrating and emotionally draining not to be able to see each other as pleased. It’s sad when you can’t share things you do, people you meet and everyday activities with a loved one. It’s bittersweet when even though that person is on your mind everyday, he isn’t there to go to at the end of it. Yet, there are definitely certain perks of a long distance relationship and ways that the couple can deal with such an unconventional relationship.
Watching Football. Playing video games. Partying. These could be the various things guys do when they get together with their male buddies. They’re loud and obnoxious, just the way we hate it. That’s exactly the reason why they need these nights. Some girls handle this fact well and some don’t. Some guys handle their girlfriends’ insecurities well and some don’t.
