Oktoberfest is known and recognized in many countries with celebrations in the German town of Munich, Bavaria lasting for 16 days in the month of September. As one of the country’s most famous events (who doesn’t want a chance to make merry, drink lots of beer and eat traditionally prepared food like sauerkraut (red cabbage), schweinsbraten (roast pork), käsespätzle (cheese noodles) and hendl (chicken)?), the traditional festive cheer has also spread to other countries around the world. emmagem caught up with Debbra or Debbie recently over breakfast at her Jalan Bangkung ,Fit For Two cafe and studio. It has been almost a year and half since emmagem last spoke and loads has happened since then. Debbra co- owner of Bijoux Chain of restaurants which includes the modern european restaurant Bijou for the more sophisticated diner albeit in a “relax and unpretentious setting” , a description oft used to describe its ambience;there is also Bisou ( cafe and diner at Heritage Row) and Bianco (a quaint eatery that boasts of great Italian pastas with a Mediterranean feel at Damansara Perdana). Then there is Fit For Two , Debbie’s first foray into the food business that she started almost 6 years ago .Here is where we see the combination of Debbie’s two passions, fitness (she is a qualified fitness instructor) and cooking. She is an excellent cook who decided to share her recipes and serve them exactly as she likes it to the customers of Fit For Two , who incidentally are usually pregnant mums and mothers because Fit For Two is a fitball , yoga and pilates studio for mother and child, hence the name Fit For Two. Hey, if he’s a good boyfriend , you should definitely take him out and let him know how special he is! Okay my top three restaurants within your budget is :
1) Bijou (check out their Ramadhan Special by the way), it has a simple chic but romantic setting , make sure you make reservations, to avoid disappointment, be prepared to pay a bit more. Their food modern European, take a great picture for a great nght out and maybe win a prize too…
Emmagem did a review on Bijou, read all about it here!
2) Italiannies at Gardens, Midvalley… great salads , mushroom soup and check out their grape juice with crush ice, I forget what it’s called. Oh oh , get a table by the windows, it should be quite a romantic setting at night… almost like dining under the stars
3) My Elephant Thai Restaurant & Café Nice modern atmosphere and design, excellent authentic Thai food. Must try the roasted duck curry! Not too dressy but nice.

I’ve been to Skybar a couple of times and I really liked how it is located at the 33rd floor of Traders Hotel all high and mighty. But one thing I really didn’t like was how HOT it was. I tell you, we usually will sweat straightaway after a couple of sips of drinks. With the alcohol working plus the ambience, can sweat like mad. BUT, fret not, things will change soon. I went for an exclusive event at Skybar. It is the final party for Skybar before they undergo a renovation for 2 months starting 31st August till November 2008.
Guess what’s going to change?
It’s going to have retractable shelters (to avoid a rainy day like today) and also better air ventilation (Read: fans, Thank God!). I really love Skybar, but I hate how sweaty I get when I’m there. At the same time, the new and improved Skybar will have a whole new line up of food and a new set of signature cocktails mixed by international mixologist. (more…)

If you are into experiencing the different types of food of this world , then head out to the A Li Yaa Restaurant, situated at Lorong Dungun , Damansara Heights. This restaurant that opened some two months back serve Sri Lankan dishes. It sees regular clienteles of the Sri Lankan and Indian community and for anyone else who wish to try out their famed Sri Lankan crabs. Unfortunately when we were there , we missed the crabs by two minutes (at least that was what the waitress told us, sold out). It was a Friday night and only 8.45pm but it was a packed house.
Love the ambience and decor, reminded me of colonial mansions in India and Sri Lanka, all whitewashed with an open verandah. Leather like highback chairs and dark wooden tables gives the place a very masculine and country club feel. Not to mention the big garden outside (really great for a garden party), unfortunately the sports bar upstairs was closed for a private function… so did not get to check it out.
This weekend if you are heading down to KLCC , do check out the Aseana CafeBar, it is chic and serve really delicious mixture of local and western delights. A personal favorite is the “rojak buah” (mixture of local fruits with prawn paste) and the really wicked Caesar salad. The portions are big and they don’t come cheap but well worth the price and the value.
The no fuss layout that is simple and chic is also a plus point . For a people watcher like me , it is also fun to sit and observe the comings and goings either into KLCC from the adjoining Mandarin Oriental Hotel or savvy shoppers and more than one or two fashionistas with shopping bags in tow and who might just drop in to the same cafe to rest their well shod feet after a shopping expedition to the array of boutiques like IT (that carries a mixture of 2nd line designer brands like Just Cavalli and many more), Cole Haan ,Furla, Christian Lacroix and many more. It is definitely a highly recommend girls get-together place anytime- from lunch all the way to tea time.
On 20th July 2007, Asian Heritage Row claimed another winner when Bisou (meaning kisses in francais ) a patisserie opened for business…such cool decor theme all in white just like sister restaurants (Bijou and Bianco).
All kinds of pastries like cupcakes, brownies, bagels , the best brioche in town (personal opinion) and the only place I know anyway in KL, that sells fresh hot cross buns. All pastries are freshly made daily.
Bisou opens from 7am till 2am for you hungry clubbers…after you have had your fill of drinking ;you can go to sober up there with fresh brewed coffees and some deeelicious cakes. Be a responsible citizen
Bisou, Bianco and Bijou are shops owned by emmagem.com’s success profile Debbie Lee .
Emmagem.com went for the launching of Bisou at Asian Heritage Row. Check out the pictures:

Lovely White and Pink Deco. (excuse the camera, it IS white and pink actually)
;p

The counter (See! i told you it is white and pink!) filled with cupcakes for the launch.

Bijou, French for ‘jewel’, is a restaurant indeed akin to a gem: rare but of great value to its owner, in this case, customers. Set deep in the jungle of recent Mont Kiara condominiums, it’s safe to say that Bijou is one of Mont Kiara’s best kept secrets. And we now know why.

What comes to your mind when you think of Italian restaurants here in the Klang Valley? Usually it will be dimmed lightings, with checkered table clothes and a more romantic setting. When it comes to Bianco (meaning “white” in Italian) we would like to think it means “purity in pleasure”, read on to find out why.

Some people “eat to live” while some “live to eat”. Guess which category do most Malaysians fall in?
Although we do not go to the extreme extent of eating until our health deteriorates, most of us do have a passion to satisfy our taste buds. Big or small, young or old, many Malaysians like me, know how to appreciate good food. This article is my tribute, also recommendations to you, to some of the best food I have ever had in the PJ/KL area.
