October 27th , Monday is Breast Cancer Awareness Day, but the whole month of October is usually feted with as much pink ribbon activities as possible to mark the awareness. Some history of the pink ribbon here. The pink ribbon idea was started by Susan Komen in her effort to promote the awareness of breast cancer and the lack of government funding in researching its prevention. It was then undertaken by the Estee Lauder group to spread this awareness by ensuring their branches worldwide gave away the ribbons or did promotional activities related to the pink ribbon or the color pink. This topic has been blogged about before very recently but vintage fever is still raging up until now and there are more and more blogshops selling vintage goodies, so I figured it wouldn’t hurt to do another post on this latest craze in town.
One very good reason why vintage-lovers are, well, vintage-lovers, is that they feel that these granny chic pieces are definitely one-of-a-kind and the chances of seeing a similar dress on another girl is close to impossible. It gives them an outlet to show their identity and personality, by wearing the vintage beauties according to their own unique style.
That said, however, that is probably also a reason why some choose to not wear vintage. Simply because they’re not sure how to wear it and they’re not sure if they look good in it.
But the good news now is, vintage is no longer worn as it is. Every piece can be mixed-and-matched with modern clothing to create a really stylish, unique, and maybe even whimsical fun look!
Here are some looks you can create.
Vintage dresses are the most popular oldies garments right now, so let’s see how you can play around with them.
The oldest trick in the box is to add a playful belt, especially since many vintage dresses come with a bigger, flowy cutting. If the hemline is too long, just yank up the skirt at the waist and cinch with a belt.
Layering is big now, so it’s really kinda fun to pile on your clothes, but in a tasteful way, of course.

UPDATE ON STYLE CONTEST
Just a friendly reminder: You can still send in entries for styleCONTEST! We have extended the deadline so that more of you can join (some has been asking for an extension). So we’re extending it till friday:)
Quick, submit now!:)
Ps/// mofsd will be updated pretty soon. Super sorry for the delay.
There are growing numbers of online shops now with mailing lists. They send their updates to their customers which are fine by anyone who has subscribed to their shop’s mailing list. For those who love updates, it is really a great tool.
What is worrying is that the emails come one after another sometimes a few times in a day. It gets worst when there are a few shops using the same mailing list emails because they just copied the emails from another blog shop’s mailing list. A few people has emailed us asking emmagem if we have sent out their emails to online shops. DISCLAIMER: EMMAGEM DO NOT SHARE ANYONE’S EMAILS FROM OUR SUBSCRIPTION. We like to keep them sacred as they are our readers :D. No, we do not do such things. If there’s any emails coming from us, it will be signed by either me or yetmee and with official emmagem emails like these- karenmarie@emmagem.com/yetmee@emmagem.com/emmagemdotcom at gmail So it is legitimate.
I understand, it gets quite annoying to see your inbox filled with emails from people whom you do not even subscribe to. What’s even worst is that when asked to be removed from the list, they do not reply the person. When you send emails out to people who are not interested, its called SPAMMING. Spamming is unacceptable because it is very annoying, lah! :/
How NOT to spam emails to shopaholics’ inboxes?
We hope that ALL blogshops who are sending mailing lists updates abide by these guides to avoid being called spams. You want to have a good impression to your customers!
To everyone being spammed, email the spammers and tell them that you want out, if not the emails will never stop coming.
Send your shop updates/mailing list to karenmarie@emmagem.com!
I really love boots and I just think that wearing boots really jazzes up an outfit and gives a sense of unexpectedness to it, be it a simple shift dress or even a mix match of knee length skirt with high boots. There is of course the weather constraint if wearing in Malaysia , but I think one must be brave where fashion is concern . And I am really glad to tell you that these days , young fashionistas just go for it hot or cold irregardless.
The general rule to wearing boots is the longer the skirt the higher the boots. I say generally because the bootie transgresses both long and short issue. I also believe sometimes if the combination is right , one should throw the rule book out the window. Boots because it originates as a reason to protect against the cold naturally look best when worn with tights unless you are Jessica Simpson than you just wear it with bikini top, cut off shorts and a cowboy hat and of course cowboy boots and make sure you are washing a Mustang and be dancing around it…
Let’s start from the bottom of the foot, a bootie , as mentioned earlier can be worn with both long and short skirts , flare or fitted skirt and likewise with pants. It can even look quite formal if the colour combination is right.
Mid calf to ankle boots are usually worn with anything that is above the knees, but also look good tucked into pants of jeans.
Knee high boots are best worn under skirts that covers the knees or tucked into slim pants or jeans. My new hairdresser wore her brown tanned leather boots with a knee length summer shift dress and I thought she look so cool, chewing her gum as she cut my hair …
Thigh high boots on the extreme is however a contradiction like the bootie as it is worn with usually short shorts or short skirts. It is also quite sexy to just wear it with tights and a top… or like J.Lo when she performed at 2007 American Idol to introduce her Spanish album and single , a long flowy caftan, split high at the sides and tights tucked in thigh high boots and with the light shining on her and fake wind blowing at her and …it was fiery…tough and soft at the same time.
I usually prefer boots that look more refined with heels and stilettoes with polish leather, but these days they have ‘em flat , wedge heels and even with platform heels, take your pick. D&G featured boots that look like wellingtons with heels in orange color and they paired them with knee length tartan skirt and cardigan twinsets. And with that , a previously school marmish look has been given a new twist…
So I know , we have summerlike weather all year round and it is still summer but all the fall fashion previews have made my winter soul nolstagic…so I guess I just have to take out my boots and give them a good airing…
Do you like boots too? What holds you back if any about buying a pair?
I want to know I have story books to sell how do i go abou it?thanks

I want to sell my second hand clothes! HELP ME!
-Ling-

We’ve been getting this question a lot lately, so here’s some suggestions!:)
First of all, you can start a little second hand blogshop. All you have to do is observe how others have been doing at our MOFSD, and you too can start your own. Just remember to be honest in your description and tell them how used are the items. You wouldn’t want to cheat on customers like how these people were cheated. If you do not know how to start an online business, we will be giving you tips soon on how to start an online blog shop.
You can also try auction sites like, ebay.com.my, lelong.com.my, mudah.com.my to start auctioning off your books and old clothes. These are auction sites, which means you can start in a very low price and people will bid for your items.
Alternately, you can go to Selltrade KL where you can open a livejournal account and start selling your second hand clothes in that livejournal community. It is similar to any blogshops, just that this livejournal community is solely for secondhand sales and has been here before the mushrooming of online blog shops.
Other than that, try going for any of the shopaholics parties like the Fashionista Junkyard Sale or the Bijou Bazaar to open a shop to sell your items. There will be loads of people all willing to buy your treasures.

Hope that helps you!:)
Wherever you decide to sell, make sure that you list your shop at emmagem ![]()
Hi…I would like to ask women like my age coming 30 can still wear a pink colour dress were there look very childish if i wear this colour for a dinner can you give any suggestion??? Thanks (^_^)….
MONAKO
Well, at any age, any attire of any colour can look wrong if worn inappropriately. It isn’t about colour , but more about the design of the dress and how you wear it, how you accessorize and how you eventually carry it off…
Pink satin , silk and chiffon , can look very sensuous especially powder pink or rose pink. Also choose your pinks wisely, there are many shades of pinks to work with.
I was very atheletic when i was younger so now i have really broad shoulders, i think they are wider than my hips! My waist is tiny in comparison so most clothes i buy are either tight around the shoulders or too loose around the waist. Any advice?
-Lisa-
Hmm, I am not sure which is worse, broad shoulders or broader bums. Either way , balance is tricky , but not impossible been there, although mine was the bum (glad I manage to lose some weight and balance it a little).
How to shop online effectively like a true online shopper?
We at emmagem are going to attempt to write a series of articles on how to shop online effectively and how to set up an awesome online shop!:) Here’s our first one, E-Banking!
Online shopping is supposed to be hassle free and everything is a click away (Okay, so a few clicks away)! But, it becomes a hassle when we have to actually walk (or drive) all the way to the nearby bank and slowly deposit your cash on the machine, or eve worst, take a number to deposit it to the bank!! So annoying right, imagine, the hot scorching sun shining on your skin and the sweat dripping all over your face after you’ve finally found a parking 3 blocks away in the over crowded SS15!
Haih. All that hassle. One way to shop online the bestest and most convenient way is to get an online banking account! Many banks has already joined the bandwagon to have online services that can help online shoppers and buyers alike to track their accounts online. IF you’re a seller, I’m sure you must have already have a e-banking account to check to see if your customers has already banked in the money.
These banks are:
I’ve only used Maybank2u before, so I will review Maybank2u’s services for now.
If you’ve been using any other services, comment and tell us whats good and whats bad about your service. But i assume that these e-banking services have almost the same services. We’re only interested in one of their service anyways, FUNDS TRANSFER! (more…)

Vidal Sassoon Curling Iron from amazon.com
Curls, curls, curls..bouncy curls
Hi, I’m planning to buy a hair curler cos I don’t want permanent curls. Some days i like my hair curly and some days i like it straight.
Can you tell me which brand curler to buy and how to use it? is there any product that i should before and after i use the curler? what brand of product is best to achieve soft and still touchable curly hair.
I don’t want to be like the 80’s with the big and harden with gel curls ;D
i am totally clueless ;D
Thank you very much!!
-Karen Lee-
Hey Karen Lee, I have a friend names Karen Lee too:)
Anyways, I have always wanted to know these things too! I myself am totally clueless.
But I will try to help you out(with the little that i know about this). I always believed that those 8-in-1 curler/straightener are always the way to go, because, then you can curl and straighten and etc. HAHA. Of course, to keep your hair curly, you need to use special curling gels that are available at any hair product line in Watson’s or Guardians (or anywhere else). But since i have never used any, i shall not recommend which ones are good.
Here’s a video on how to curl your hair from eHow! ![]()

F21 Scoopneck top - Forever 21
We have a question from a reader:
Was wondering if you know any tips on how to take care of your white clothes? I just stained mine! OMG! It was a favorite dress of mine. It is not like washed with coloured, but just yellowish stain. So sad…
-Shwueey-
Our opinion:
One method I have always sworn by is not bleaching my whites. But rather, soak them in cold water and detergent, rinsed and hang them in the heat away from the sun. The reason for not bleaching is because white is actually a color just like any other color and apparently has same number of tone variations like green. Pure cotton is actually a light dirty brown color. And if you don’t hang the whites under the sun , the white colour will not be the yellowish white you see, but a clean pure white. My mother thinks I am crazy, but some friends of mine even go as far as drying their whites in the bathroom totally protected from the sun in order to keep it from turning yellow.
Love, Yetmee
