I was watching this video on Tv. It was from the Stand up to Cancer Fashion Rocks 2008 show where there were so many artists and they were all wearing the plain old T-shirt. Now who said you can’t look hot in a T shirt? Some were sleeveless, cap sleeved, off shouldered and paired up with high waisted skirts, skinny jeans, cropped jeans, etc.
Check out Beyonce, Carrie, Mariah Carey, Mary J Blige, Miley Cirus, Rihanna, Nicole, Ciara, Fergie, Leona, Ashanti, Keyshia Cole, Natasha Bedingfield (I think that’s about it..) in their jazzed up outfit wearing a simple Stand Up for Cancer T shirt belting out this awesome and inspiring song.
On a serious note, cancer is a killer disease. Do yourself and your family a favor by going for checkups regularly and for the ladies especially, do a simple breast examination at home to check for lumps in your breasts. A little hunch that you get will save your life. Be aware and stand up to cancer.
For those who are going through this directly or indirectly, don’t give up and always have hope. There will be rainbow at the end of it all after all that struggle.
So I woke up one day, feeling a little weird as I had some stomach pain. I had to wake up at that ungodly hour of 630am to make it to my 8am lecture (How boring). As I drove my car, I had my daily dose of yogurt drink and reached college at 745am. Since I had some time, I decided to go to the toilet to pee. I checked and omg, my period came. I looked quickly inside my handbag to see if I’ve brought any, and to my horror, NONE!
Class started as I re-entered my lecture hall. I went to sit beside my girlfriend, took out a piece of paper and wrote:

She smiled at me with a cheeky face and mouthed “NO”, looked into her bag and brought out small little bag and inside of it was a sweet pink packet of pad. (more…)

I have a confession to make. It’s some thing I kept from everyone I knew ever since I grew out of it in my college years. Its so memalukan (Shyful) come to think about it as we were so young and naïve and had no fear at all. If you asked me to do it now, alone, I would be very scared. But with my friends from high school, I believe we can re-live the memories.
(Imagine we’re in AA meeting)
Hello, my name is Karen and I am a Boyband-a-holic.
LOLS! When we were young, my friends and I used to stalk boybands. The closest one we met were the guys from Blue. You know the British boy band that graced our land in the 90’s? It was a pretty scary experience, but we had no fear, but we had our friends and of course, the love of our boy band. The “stalking” started in JWW Marriott in Kuala Lumpur and there were security guards everywhere. We were so cool in our behavior and just walked in like we own the place. Mind you, we were 15 at that time, and there were like 4 of us. But omg, we seriously were so determined to meet them.
So there we were in our half choir clothes (We told our choir teacher after a competition that we had tuition in KL City and asked to be excused. We just changed out tops), running all around Mariott Hotel trying to blend in the crowd. It was hard work trying to find them in between press conferences and interviews. I remember I even had my period then and I had to come clean with my friends and tell them that I can’t run very fast, but they understood me and made sure I’m alright. Together, we sneaked around the hotel and managed to get to the gym floor where there was a tennis court.
Guess what?

So the other day, I was uber bored. You know being Raya long holidays and all. All I did was bum around until my mother decided to make me drive to the grocery store. So, reluctantly I went into the grocery shop nearby and decided that I shall do something out of the ordinary. I walked around and bought this new Shine 0% fat yogurt drinks. I saw the advertisement on the TV and boy was I one of the advertisement slave. I bought it because of the advertisement.
They come in 5 flavors (from left to right) Lemon Lime, Apple Aloe Vera, Peach passion, Strawberry Raspberry and Orange Mango. I couldn’t decide on which one to buy, so heck it, I bought them all just for fun. It was only RM2 per bottle. Small bottle 220g ones, not the big one. We all need to do something random at one point of our lives, right? That’s what life’s all about…(ok, I will stop rambling now).

There’s this group of personal trainers and fitness instructors out there who truly live their lives according to the fitness principal that they believe in. At getactive ,three young personal trainers headed by the torpedo fit Chloe Lai, 32 years old, do just that. They are health enthusiasts who believe in daily work outs (they have a strict fitness regime for themselves) , they are into triathlons and capoiera. Chloe is also a Les Mills RPM instructor and all personal trainers at getactive are ACE (American Council of Exercise) accredited.
getactive was started by Chloe some time last year , a trained and certified personal trainer with the American Council of Exercise, she used to train at commercial gyms and had always entertained the idea of someday being a mobile gym instructor. But the idea somehow evolved and she started a small gym of her own in Damansara Perdana for a few months and early this year moved to Solaris in Mont Kiara. Situated just across from Cold Storage in a three storey shoplot which they occupy two , it is lean and efficient. GetActive only has two classes for pilates and yoga on thursdays and saturdays, the rest of the time it is strictly focused on personal training.

October 27th , Monday is Breast Cancer Awareness Day, but the whole month of October is usually feted with as much pink ribbon activities as possible to mark the awareness. Some history of the pink ribbon here. The pink ribbon idea was started by Susan Komen in her effort to promote the awareness of breast cancer and the lack of government funding in researching its prevention. It was then undertaken by the Estee Lauder group to spread this awareness by ensuring their branches worldwide gave away the ribbons or did promotional activities related to the pink ribbon or the color pink. I’ve been a gym member since last year and boy was I so happy to finally get a membership and start exercising. The first few months was wow, so semangat. Go almost every week. At one point, I even lost weight (minor minor weight) but still, I did feel much better exercising. All those body combat and yoga classes really works.
Then, as time passed by, I got lazy. . .
Do you exercise?
I know its all healthy to exercise, I do feel damn good after exercising, but I tried working 9-6 and I literally had no time during weekdays to go to the gym. Even worst when you have to take public transport back home.
But exercising is fun, especially when you have a gym kaki and talking while on thread mills and gossiping while showering is much fun!
I should start my exercising regime soon. I need to fit into awesome clothes and feel good about my body. . .
ok, back to the main reason I wrote this article. . .I need to get gym clothes as my old ones are ahem, still there, but I need brand spanking new ones for my new exercise regime.
(I need to look the part to start exercising again)
(tsk tsk tsk, excuses to shop only!)
I have bunions too! Nothing really major but enough to be a hassle when i want to buy beautiful ballerina flats or high heeled covered shoes which are always so narrow.
Is there any way to get rid of bunions?Sy
Hey, Sy, I understand your dilemma..but bunions are kinda hard to get rid of on our own once they start. They are an outgrowth of bone on your metatarsophalangeal joint , that makes the feet look a little deformed as they force the big toe to grow in direction of the other toes, a bunionette is the outgrowth at the small toe.. sounds so cute but it is not! . There is no real way of getting rid of them except for surgery which doesn’t guaratee it doesn’t return if one persists on wearing the same type of shoes. Another point of consideration would be that bunions are thought to be hereditary , check out your mom or dad’s feet.
The only way is really prevention, as bunions like calluses and corns , which are hardened and thickened skin and corn is the that looks like a corn kernel on surface of toes. Corns can be removed by using over the counter top plasters although it isn’t recommended as they contain salycylic acid and can cause infection. You can also try to have the dead skin cut off but be careful you don’t cut too deep and injure the good skin.
The way is to wear proper shoes with wide fronts to give more room to the feet. And I recently found that the Scholl Party Feet range has a range for sore spots, what a saviour, they are super versatile like translucent spiderman, stick ‘em anywhere and anyhow inside your shoes. You see if you have a bunion , it really hurts when you walk on high heels and pressure is exerted on the bottom of the bunioned foot, so the silicon spot placed directly where pressure is most is really great! Try it , I did, and walking isn’t so painful anymore. Also, I really like the silicone range as they are soft without going jelly on you, retains shape and firmness and doesn’t run around in the shoe, their sticky underside ensures this. But just stick where the most friction occurs, because if you stick them unnecessarily , they cause the shoe space to be reduced inside and tighten the shoe which lands you where you started. They are a tad pricey though at RM18.90 for 6 spots but you can wash and reuse them and transfer them from shoe to shoe. They are available at Vita CAre Pharmacies at Gardens and Bangsar Shopping Centre, where I found mine, did not find any at Guardian Midvalley. But it’s RM18.90 or surgery , well …for now it will do.
All these corns , calluses and bunions are caused by ill fitting shoes which generates constant rubbing and friction between skin and shoes. So wear good fitting shoes so that the arch and toe space is there. Oohh..oohh also toe spacers may be a good idea, will check those out. You can also try and look out for bunion splint to be used at night , apparently bunion may go away over time if you do. The thing about bunions like corns, it hurts and usually will eventually spread to both foot, sounds so ominous but find the best solution for you and for professional advice look up a podiatrist so they can advise you best. And soak in warm water to ease pain and swelling at the end of day.
And you know what, I really want to wear thongs but I have to respect the fact that I have a bunion and though they might look funny exposed , if the thongs are comfortable I’ll go for it. Feet image is like body image , it must come from the inside and it must you make you feel comfortable in more ways than one!! Anyway , just get creative, remember to remember to highlight the positives …
Do read the linked articles cause I find they make good sense for the formation , prevention and treatments….
Hey, anyone know a real good podiatrist or any other remedy , this is a fashionista emergency!!:-)lols

Snacking might have a bad rap but we just can’t resist doing it whether in between lectures, during lunch break or even just sitting at home. But even then, snacking might not be all bad.
It is much healthier to eat smaller meals more frequently throughout the day, lets say probably 5 small meals a day. By doing so, our bodies will have a steady stream of nutrients and energy throughout the day. Having small meals throughout the day also curbs ourselves from overindulging at the next meals and thus actually consuming fewer calories a day.
But then, we couldn’t just snack on anything. We have to choose wisely and keep these healthy snacks on hand to avoid being tempted by the lure of high calorie snacks.
Read on to find out what snack foods are good for the body.
Nutty Fun
Nuts and seeds are healthy and appetizing. consuming a handful of nuts and seeds can improve circulation and muscle tone. Besides that, many nuts and seeds are full of arginine, vitamin E, lignants ans omega-3 fatty acids which help prevent heart disease, infertility and high blood pressure.
There are so many nuts and seeds to choose from - almonds, pine nuts, walnuts, pumpkin seeds and sunflower seeds, to name a few. Mix and match any combination or even add some to your salad for extra flavor and texture.
An Apple A Day Keeps The Doctor Away
This is not just a phrase that a mom might say to their child to make them eat apples. It has actually been proven by studies conducted by scientists. It seems that people who consumed more apples have healthier hearts and lung function.
Apples contain pectin that helps decreases cholesterol levels as well as prevent colon cancer.
Berry Power
Be it blueberries, cherries or strawberries, these little fellas are packed with bioflavonoids, anthocyanins, tannins and other phytochemicals.
The flavonoids act as antioxidants that reduce free radicle damage as well as help reduce inflammation (apparently it is more effective than an asprin) . Consuming these compounds also protacts you against cancer, arthiritis and heart diseases due to their ability to lower cholesterol.
Avocado: The Green Master
Although an avocado doesn’t look pretty on the outside it is packed with glutathione, which is known as the ‘master antioxidant’. This compound regulates the immune system keeping us protected from harmful diseases, protacts against cancer and assists in the detoxifying process.
Happy Apricots
Apparently apricots are one of the staple foods of the famous centenarians in the Himalayas. Research has discovered that apricots have the highest level as well as the widest variety of carteniods of any food. Cartenoids are antioxdants that help prevent heart disease by reducing ‘bad cholesterol’.
Well, these are a few suggestions that i have made. I hope you find interesting ways to incorporate these healthy snacks into your daily diet
Maybe you have suggestions of your own that you wish to share??

The time has come. . . to vote for the most fashionista friendly toilet!:) We recieved some nominations on a post earlier. Thanks everyone for your input, now we’ll need everyone to start voting for the BEST toilet around Klang Valley’s shopping malls.
Criteria:
You can choose up to 2 venues. So here goes! Please choose wisely, lol.
by the way, just a quick question about toilet seats. . .(Since we’re already talking about toilets)
What do you think about people squatting on toilet seats? I know sometimes it is too dirty to actually sit on it, but I’ve seen even clean toilets get shoe marks on the seats! They do actually have proper squatting toilets available. It is quite annoying at times. I, have not mastered the art of squatting on the toilet seats (and probably never will!)! I really wonder how people do it. . . lol.
What are your thoughts?

We’ve heard of date rape, Rohinol, spiked drinks and all, well check out the video below, see , how easily and unsuspectingly it can be done…
Hey, pays to be safe than sorry.. next time you’re out partying , make sure that you take care of you and your drink. Keep it within vision, never leave drink unattended and not even with close friends… they’re out to have fun too , not play watch dog to your gin and tonic …When I am out with my girlfriends there is an unspoken pact we look out for each other, but if you watch the video, you can’t blame anyone if something goes wrong cos, bad people can be very, very tricky…
I mean I always wonder at people whom I meet at a dinner table or a party for like half an hour and they would ask me to “just watch out” for their handbags or their drinks. I mean I look quite the fierce and honest type and I am a girl , but you never know , people can be in cahoots with someone else, surely you have watch enough movies and read the newspapers about girls who lure other girls …
So don’t bring large handbags that needs “taking care of” . I don’t deny it is troublesome to dance with a drink in hand and a large handbag, but either get creative or don’t order drink if you wanna dance…okay that is just me! You might better alternatives.
Also ensure that you only go home with people you know and want too, in the case of a sloshed girlfriend , you might wanna look out for her, that she is of coherent thought should you see her with some stranger who is cosying up on her…
Sorry if I am nagging and carrying on and if you have seen this video before….see it again..
