Question: Charm Bracelets

Oct 31, 2008 Author: karenmarie | Filed under: Fashion

Does anybody know which store sells gold charm bracelets?

Rachel

Hey, do you know where I can custom make charm bracelets online, I live in Ipoh?

Joyce

Hey both:)

Jewelry are selling online like hot cakes, as they are easier to buy online in my opinion. You don’t have to worry about not getting the right sizes and such, so they are plenty creative individuals out there who live to make pretty jewelry!!

Rachel, when you mean gold, you mean costume jewelry gold plated right? Because, if you wanted real gold charm bracelet, I believe Poh Kong and other goldsmith shops have charm bracelets. As for other charm bracelets, there are tons of shops selling them.

I’ve browsed through our jewelry section on MOFSD and found a few shops that sell gold (and silver) charm bracelets. Some of them are beaders and crafters, so all you have to do is ask nicely and they might custom make one for you:)

So here goes!

diary of a miniature enthusiast has a truckload of charms for charmbracelets. But these are silver-based charms. One charm could be RM35+ depending on how many charms you want:) Basically, her forte is making charmbracelets

Mimpi Murni has awesome vintage looking charmbracelets which are carefully placed at the end of the hook. (more…)

The necks big statement

Oct 30, 2008 Author: Cherrypop | Filed under: Fashion

A couple of seasons ago, shoulder-duster earrings were the best accessory to be seen in. From chandelier styles to dangling teardrops, there wasn’t a pierced ear that didn’t showcase these eye-catching pieces of jewellery. This fall however, the erogenous zone has moved to the neck. Designers sent their models down the runway in tops with gently folded funnel necks, necklines had unusual architectural folds and crystals as well as beads adorned necks in the form of draping, bib-sized necklaces and chunky chokers. Here are some examples of necklaces that are hot at the moment and a few ways to wear them.

Burberry’s navy blue, multi-stone necklace on a pewter chain is an example of a necklace that can be worn for a formal event or out at night to a party. The gems immediately provide an evening, dressed-up feel, so any outfit you match it with will be dressed up immediately. In order to ensure all eyes are drawn to the necklace, it is best that your top is simple. Your best bet would be a shift dress with a boat neck or scoop neckline with a structured line. A simple top like a clean T-shirt paired with a printed pencil skirt would also be a great pairing as the top would provide a plain background for the necklace while the printed skirt adds a touch of interest to the outfit. The Dearth of Originality

Oct 30, 2008 Author: yetmee | Filed under: A Matter Of Opinion, Fashion, News

I guess we all  have heard  the “rumour” going on about the famous mobilephone service advertisement on TV which purportedly “borrowed” an idea that originated from www.twitter.com (click on the video).

Now, is that truth or not , I am sitting on the fence here because one can never tell when exactly an idea originated. Like who made the first actual drawing on planet earth and who first became famous. But there are some things that are quite traceable and since in Malaysia, there has been of late a tendency for 95% of rumours to be badly disguised truths, I am inclined to give this “rumour” more than  some benefit of doubt! You know, there are people out there who  actually track these things called truths, not because they are some kind of appointed watchdogs, but simply because they know and they think others should also know it! And you know what they say, the truth will prevail. (more…)

Tutu DIY

Oct 30, 2008 Author: karenmarie | Filed under: A Matter Of Opinion, Fashion

Tutu underneath the flare dress from Abiferrin

Remember the House Bunny Movie Tickets Contest? We asked readers to send in a picture of themselves wearing something pink. A reader, Tammy, who calls herself Miu because of the brand MiuMiu and the love of cats sent in a very interesting picture of her boyfriend wearing a Tutu.

Tutu’s are awesome. They can be worn just for fun or can be worn underneath skirts to make them look puffy. Just make sure your tutu is puffy enough and can stand the skirt’s weight :D You’ll look all flirty and playful with a tutu underneath your dresses. Tres cute!

Miu made a tutu all by herself with the help of some online tutorials. She has agreed to share with us the how to’s and so we went on to ask her a few questions about why she made the Tutu, her fashion picks and get to know Miu in person :)

Why do you call yourself Miu?

During school days, my girlfriends would use designer/branded names as our “calling name”. So I chose Miu (MiuMiu) which sounded like Mew (cat) I love cats!

Why did you make a Tutu?

It started because my bf had to wear a tutu for our friend’s wedding (u know the games/stunts bride’s girlfriends would make the guys do so that they’ll let the groom in to see the bride). We went looking in Klang Valley for a tutu but could not find any that’s affordable or comes in sizes that my bf could wear. It dawn on me I could make my own, as my mom used to make costumes too when I was a kid. So I figure I could make one myself.

How did you make the Tutu?

I made my tutu by tying strips of netting on a long ribbon (which is used to tie around the waist like a belt).  It’s a bit difficult to explain in words so I have a simple diagram showing how I tie it. (more…)

Anne

Hey Laura and Anne,

I’ve yet to see any beanie hats recently. But then again, it could be that I wasn’t paying attention to Beanie Hats. But, previously, I’ve visited this shop called Oscho, its a stall in Mid Valley which sells a variety of hats.

You could also try Forever 21. I’ve seen barets/beanies being sold there.

Longchamp: 60 years and more

Oct 28, 2008 Author: Cherrypop | Filed under: Fashion

Longchamp first began in 1948 when the company, founded by Jean Cassegrain, began making leather coverings for pipes and various products for smokers. In 8 years, the company had expanded to include producing small leather goods and by the 1970s, boutiques in Hong Kong and Japan were opened to accommodate the demand for travel goods. It wasn’t until 1980 when Phillippe Cassegrain, son of Jean Cassegrain expanded its productions to include clothing, scarves and other fashion accessories. Its most well-known line perhaps to date is the ‘Le Pliage’ – a collection of foldable travel bags made of vinyl and leather handles and trimming.

The Longchamp outlet at The Gardens recently celebrated Longchamp’s 60th anniversary and the launch of their Autumn/Winter collection with a media and VIP guests party complete with a fashion show. With boards dotting the foyer area of The Gardens with the face of well-known supermodel Kate Moss fronting their line, models lined up to present the latest range of bags including the re-edition of the LM Collection. Question: Fabrics

Oct 27, 2008 Author: karenmarie | Filed under: Fashion, Question

Hello everyone =). I’ll be so delighted if someone can tell me where I can get Japanese linen/cotton fabrics. I am referring to those oh-so-adorable fabrics (what some may regard as “kawaii”).
Thanks in advance =)

Lynnie

This one is from Contemporary Cloth

Hey Lynnie!

I’m not sure as to where to get Japanese cotton fabrics here in Malaysia, besides Nagoya, Kamdar and other stores like that, but I did find an article written by Shambie of Shambijoux, a crafter and bag designer, about where to get cutesey fabrics. She makes pretty cute clutches and such with really pretty fabric prints. She usually buys them from overseas. She linked a few online shops from the USA and some of her commenters did comment on where to get them in Malaysia. Have a read at it here.

Fabric from Ikea

If you want to, you can try finding them at fabric stores in KL/Malaysia: (more…)
