Question: How to wear Fake Lashes?

Nov 21, 2008 Author: thebeautywriter | Filed under: Beauty, Question

Hi, I love the fake eyelashes and I had bought a few pairs, but the problem is I am unable to stick it myself. Any tips of wearing it easily at home myself?

Denize

hi Denize, sorry I was away *achoo* Feeling a lil’ sicky here from the weather.

I love Shu Uemura’s adhesive glue; it’s whitish in colour but once it dries on, it turns transparent and it isn’t messy at all.

What I do is, leave a little trail of the glue along the false lash line, give it a gentle blow and then stick as close as you can to your lash line. If you have knobbly hands, use a tweezer.

Then, press one end to the other end and hold for 30 secs. Voila! You’re flutter-ready. It takes practise and you’ll get the hang out of it =) G’luck!

T’was the season for party looks

Nov 20, 2008 Author: thebeautywriter | Filed under: Beauty

With the festive season fast approaching, many beauty companies have started introducing their holiday collection for you, the party goers. This season’s trend is gearing towards shimmer and glimmer and anyone can wear that if they keep to some easy pointers. For example, if you are going to wear shimmer eyeshadow, you should keep the rest of your face to a minimal. Same goes with, if you apply glimmering lip gloss, your eyes should be kept matte.

Here’s another tip: While everyone can wear shimmer, older women should be careful to not overdo it as shimmer actually highlight fine lines around the eyes. So, if you have crow’s feet, you may want to avoid metallic makeup. You can get away with shimmer powder at the center of your lips, regardless of your age. (more…)

Plush and velvety purple

Nov 6, 2008 Author: thebeautywriter | Filed under: Beauty

This Fall season, the colour purple reigns in all its glory. While fashion companies have incorporated the mysterious colour on scarves, boots and accessories, purple has always been a staple colour in every beauty companies’ make-up collection. Purple makes a great smoky look when applied on eyes and we’re here to tell you how. The key is to concentrate on one part of your look i.e. If you’re applying purple eyeshadow, keep your lips to a light pink or if you’re applying purple or plum lips, keep eyes to a minimal. You don’t want to look like an overdone doll right? For the weak-hearted, you can apply purple nail polish that’s equally sensational as well. Some of the celebrities who’ve been spotted with the purple smoky eye look include Jennifer Hudson and Rachel McAdams. Young women can get away with purple colour in any form: glitter, matte or shimmer but older women are advisable to just stick to matte as shimmer will enhance lines around the eye area.

Step 1: Begin with a clean face that’s been applied with a light day moisturiser. This is to ensure that your foundation stays. Follow with your trusted concealer on trouble areas like under the eyes or around the nose.

Step 2: Apply a sheer pink blush to your cheeks. Use your fingers to blend the colour outward and toward your cheekbones. If your blusher is in powder form, lightly dust and blend as mentioned.

Step 3: Purple eyeshadow looks great with black eye liner. Line the rim of your eyes (both lower and upper) with a black eyeliner pencil.

Step 4: Now here’s the best part. You’ll want to keep the colour matte, so apply the eyeshadow onto the entire of your lids and blend. If you want long-lasting wear, use an eyeshadow cream base.

Step 5: Using a tapered liner brush (a specially made angled brush for easier application), apply eyeshadow under the rum of the lower lash line.

Step 6: At this point, if you like a more dramatic look, do feel free to apply fake eyelashes. If not, a fine coat of mascara will do just fine.

Step 7: Remember what we said about keeping the lips understated? Finish off your purple look with a sheer layer of pink lipstick or gloss.

Windows to Our Soul

Oct 14, 2008 Author: Sharyl | Filed under: Beauty, Fashion, Shop Online, Trends

Quote Shelley from House Bunny: “The eyes are the nipples of the face”! lols!

There’s another more serious saying that goes, “The eyes are the window to our soul”. It is true, to a certain point. Take for example; what you feed the soul is through your eyes. In other words, what we see, affects our emotions and feelings. Therefore, it leads to our actions that reflects on what we were feeling.

So, let’s pay some attention to our eyes then. We may not control what we see, because sometimes, what we see, is not a very pretty sight. But however, we can keep our eyes very pretty instead! Besides those pretty clothes, lets entrance others by enhancing our eyes with the magic of makeup!

Come, let’s have some fun beautifying our eyes. Here are some pictures of the nice eyeshadows we could apply onto our eyes.

Question: Where to get Lioele cosmetics?

Sep 30, 2008 Author: karenmarie | Filed under: Beauty, Fashion, Question, Shopping

Hi.
Does anyone know where i can get Lioele cosmetics in M’sia??

Lyn

Hey Lyn!

I believe Lioele Cosmetics is a Korean Brand? I don’t think its available at cosmetic shops yet in Malaysia (Unless shops like Sasa carries them). I searched online and found that Lowyat.net has a seller selling these make ups. It is a pre order thing where you will have to buy and wait for it to be shipped to Malaysia :D The seller actually owns an online shop called Beauty Corner. Check it out for more details. Here are a few products from Lioele Cosmetics.

Nail accessories

Aug 22, 2008 Author: yetmee | Filed under: Beauty, Designers, Fashion, Shop Online

Have you ever seen men who wear long nails on their pinkies because it purportedly helps be rich if a pinkie is long?

The Empress Dowager wore nail accessories that were made of gold and about 6inches long…of course that is not so functional unless like her you have someone to help dress and feed you and other personal amenities all the time. But fear not for all you who believe in accessorizing your nails, check out this store, Bijules and their range of pinkie nail rings and nail accessories….

They look kind of pretty don’t they, but I would imagine also cumbersome like a chastity belt of sorts… still one must always try to differentiate, hey maybe that’s why the Dowager was the Dowager, cos she had those long artificial nail accessories. Give it a shot :-)lols. Bijules in located in New York, but they do ship internationally too Asian market.

The Invincibility of the Invisibra TM

Aug 1, 2008 Author: yetmee | Filed under: Advertorials, Beauty, Fashion, Gym, Tips

Rushed in last night after combat class just had to share my latest discovery with my girlfriends, it’s all about the Ultra Invisibra TM. It really is quite invincible as far as holding us up is concerned. How often have we wondered how JLo’s managed to look perky in her award winning belly button plunging neckline Gucci dress?

I think it is really challenging to wear any type of deep plunging neckline dress because all that pushed up, cleavage effect is basically lost as we submit our bodies to the natural effects of gravity.  But I seriously believe I may have found the answer to this so called “problem”, three guesses and maybe a prize…. yes , yes ,the Ultra InvisibraTM. There are all kinds of stick-on bras in the market but none like this one, I dare say. It’s all about the push up effect, that’s all there is to it but  how does a couple of pieces of stickers make or break a successful seductive outfit?

Like this one from Asos.com

Well, it surely will work if the stickers allows you to push pull your glories any which way and height that you want, which is what the Invisibra does. Plus it is seamless which means you can wear even the thinnest tshirt jersey and it wouldn’t trace, did I mention it looks invisible because the material is transparent. The nipple pad is a tad thin, not transparent, is nude in color, the thinness means , oh I am struggling to put it delicately, it covers but perkiness will make its own point.

How the bra works, looks so cool huh?

It is touted as “the only truly backless and strapless bra”, not a claim made lightly. It gives the same type of push up effect without visible bra lines (VBL). Good to wear with bareback and halter tops and any evening dress for a great girl’s night out. No need to worry that the detachable bra cups have run out of place or that the angle is just a bit off. It also looks soft and natural and brave in the face of gravity.

As for me, I have always had a problem with my sports bra especially in combat class, as my Adidas top does not come padded. After  several front kicks, back kicks and jumps combined with some real rigorous cross punches, I usually find that my “boobs” have become a uni-boob, course as I jump the bra cups dislodge and move, so I am constantly checking and tugging to ensure that I don’t look like a sweaty alien. Besides, the cups are hard and look unnatural. And I don’t wear the other stick on ones, cause my skin reacts to them , they are also thicker and traces against the tight clingy top.

But in this case, the Invisibra is made of hypoallergenic material, designed to prevent discomfort, allergies and skin irritations. The fact that they are made out of medical adhesive means that they will stick on skin without causing pain , discomfort or allergies. They did not unpeel despite the intense soaking from all the sweat and peeled off painlessly after that. I’m quite impressed that after 5 hours of gym-ming, the bras still look pretty much as when I stuck them on, no crumples or loose ends. Since it is water resistant, it would be great for my cute triangle 3 piece swimsuit, except I’ll have to get a new a pair as they are not reusable.

Left breast without Ultra InvisibraTM, right one with Ultra InvisibraTM

The amazing thing is that despite it being backless and strapless it still managed to give support and lift breasts naturally and comfortably, was it my imagination or did my breasts  actually looked a tad shapelier…emmm.

Question: How to get Angelina Jolie lips?

Jul 31, 2008 Author: karenmarie | Filed under: Advertorials, Beauty, Lifestyle, Question, Specials

How to find a lipstick that can help me create that luscious shine on my lips?

ie: Angelina Jolie

Thanks, Allyaa

Hey Allyaa, maybe you can try Maybelline’s Watershine 3D Collagen. I went for this event recently and was introduced to this product :D

Maybelline’s new range of lipstick that has a collagen effect to give you that voluptious lips that you’ve always wanted. So your lips will not only look shiny, but also, pouty ala Angelina Jolie. Now don’t we all want that lip-smacking pouty lips? Just like the model in that Maybelline Advertisement, lookie at her lips! So pouty and shinyyy! Here, get a closer look:

So now we know, she wasn’t born with it, it was Maybelline’s lipstick!!! Maybe she’s born with it, Maybe its Maybelline! lols.

Luscious, pouty lip effect, yums. I’ve been given the opportunity to try on the lipstick at a Make Up Party held by Nuffnang and Maybelline. It was awesome, because we get to try on all Maybelline products :D But no, we don’t get to keep them all. Although I would love to have them all. A few of us bloggers were invited for the make up party. Two of them were make up reviewers/bloggers (and pros in my opinion on make up) Paint-Me-Gorgeous and Mywomenstuff.  Owh, owh, I also met Cheesie of Cheeserland aka Ringo of Malaysian Dreamgirl Finalist and also Audrey of fourfeetnine (ok, I jakun, cos i secretly stalk these girls’ blog once in a while).

Anyways, back to the party, let me show you all (okay, some of) the products that were there for our Make Up Party. Its like, whoa, such a girly party with all the make up available for us to play around and test the product. The only thing that were missing were clothes and pink walls. -_-

SO MANY. This was before we rummaged through all the make up and made a huge mess:)

The many eye shadow color palettes which comes with a 4-step instruction.

Mascara that I personally use - Volum’Express is awesome. They also have eye liners in liquid or pencil form and eye brow pencils which comes with the brush.

Liquid, Mousse and Powdered foundations under Maybelline

There were so many water shine lip glosses that we got to try on. Now I know what’s my colour and can go get one:)

Our task was simple. We had to just have fun and doll ourselves up with the make up and use the new Maybelline’s Watershine 3D Collagen Lipstick to finish off the look!

Us being girls, went straight to the make up treasure chest and started make up-ing.

So many many make up. Cheesie and Audrey don’t know where to start.

Rub rub, blend, blend. Audrey putting on make up on Cassandra.

Someone trying on Eye Liner. I’ve always used pencil eye liner. I’ve yet to master the art of liquid eye liner!

We took turns to do make ups for each other and ourselves. It was really fun as we got to learn from each other the do’s and don’ts of the art of make up-ing. I myself haven’t mastered the art of eye shadow, so the lovely Cassandra of Paint-Me-Gorgeous did my eye make up that day.

Everyone after the party. All made up!:)

She really is good at make up. She ended up doing her own make up at the end of the day. Go check out her blog at  Paint-Me-Gorgeous. She reviews make up and tries them on to do write ups.  Mywomenstuff too is a blogger with much experience with make ups. Go check out what they’ve reviewed and what stuff they recommend.

She actually did only one eye and I followed her lead for the other eye. I put on the Maybelline’s Watershine 3D Collagen Lipstick and wa-la and i’m done:) The lipstick was really smooth when applying. It looks uber shiny with hints of glitters on the main colour. It would work wonders if you put on lip gloss too. Added shine!:)

POLL TIME!

What kinda lipstick problems you have?

Loading ... Loading ...

If  you polled that you have any of that problems with lipsticks, this new Maybelline’s Watershine 3D Collagen Lipstick can solve that problem for you.

Problem 1: I have dry and visible lip line!!
Solution 1:  Maybelline’s Watershine 3D Collagen Lipstick is made up of pure water and aqua collagen ingredients that will moisturize and make your lips water-soft and it will look so smooth on your lips because of the stuff in it. Your lips will not be dry anymore.

Problem 2: The lipstick has no shine which makes my lips have no dimension
Solution 2: In this new lipstick it has bubble-shaped shine molecules which gives off a multi dimensional shine. These micro molecules will help amplify the color of the lipstick and also give it a more natural and in depth look.

Problem 3: Non-lasting shine
Solution 3:  Does your lip loose its shine after a few hours? Don’t worry about it as this new lipstick has this awesome shine lock and release formula that can reactivate the shine by pressing lips together. So let’s just say your lips don’t look shiny anymore, just rub your lips together and tada, you get a better shine!:)

Problem 4: Uneven Application
Solution 4:  I always do not like how lipstick is too heavy on the lips because of what it was made of. This lipstick gives me the smooth light feeling because they use natural oils and collagen to make it very easy to put on.

Okay i got carried away, to answer that question:

Where to get the lipstick to get that Angelina Jolie pouty lips?

Maybelline’s Watershine 3D Collagen Lipstick retails at RM28.90 at all major pharmacies like Watsons and Guardians. Also available at any departmental stores that carries Maybelline.

CONTEST TIME!

Emmagem is giving FOUR lucky readers a chance to try this lipstick. All you have to do is just. . .

  1. Comment and tell us the URL and name of the 2 other make up blogs that also reviewed the lipstick.

Yves Saint Laurent -Spring Summer 2008 Makeup

Jun 7, 2008 Author: yetmee | Filed under: Beauty, Fashion, Specials

“I wanted a face for the woman I dress.”-Yves Saint Laurent

Spring Summer 2008 color was specially designed to commemorate 30 years of make up and it was inspired by love greeting cards designed by Yves Saint Laurent and sent to his friends as a sign of his affection. The YSL woman is at once romantic and flirty with soft shades, luxuriating in textures and at once easy to apply.

Application tips from Yannick Vaudry-Palette Pop Collector Powder Face and Cheeks

Take up and blend all three colours with the brush and apply over your entire face. Then brush on the colours of the flowers as you would a blush, or use the light powder to mattify or subtly shade the glow effect.

Application tips from Yannick Vaudry-Pop Stick Blush

A new kind of blush to be applied before powder: smile to make your cheekbones stand out. Apply this delicious fruity gel to give them transparent highlights. Blend with your fingertips and smooth the excess on just beneath your eyebrows and on your earlobes to complete this natural-looking touch of radiance.

Application tips from Yannick Vaudry-Eye Colour Touch Water Resistant Eye Shadow

A click is all it takes to apply shadow on both eyes. Apply solo for a subtle monochrome halo or above eyeliner to create an elegant blend. These “ready-to-seduce” shades glorify the eyes in thirty seconds flat.

helloo- you so stylo-ah!

Anna Piaggi

left) 2 pictures of  Anna Piaggi                                            right)Isabella Blow in white

You know, I can’t exactly remember the first time , I heard the word, “stylo -mylo”…it must be during the late seventies ,  the days of Saturday Night Fever,  guys with long sideburns and hala-hala  pants and platforms started appearing on the streets of Malaysia, even the kampung that I lived in. A spruced up guy with  slicked back Brylcreem-ed hair , days before hair gel and wet look..gets admiring sometimes sarky comments like , “wah you so stylo-ah!” And the most recent heard version of stylo , would be the STYLO fashion show organied by PR Queen Nancy Yeoh with some of her good friends and counterparts like Pat Liew of British India and Farah Khan.  She featured selected few high end local designers like Rizalman,  Bernard Chandran and some others. It was clarified that this Stylo event , was really meant for the “stylish”of Malaysian society (read high society and private parties)  rather than to promote Malaysian fashion although there were fashion shows performed in a red tent outside Pavillion Shopping Centre. So once again local designers and the industry have been sidelined for some rich elite’s personal pleasure and an event that could have help set the stage to leap to a different level of playing field for some more  designers did not materialise. So instead mega sponsorships were garnered and all for what, for some fancy hoity toity party for bored rich people looking for some more entertainment.

But back to what I really want to say is, when I first heard the word style , I really took the word quite literally to mean personal expression of one’s identity and that could mean anything that one wears where it matters less that one looks slim in an outfit but more that one  feels fully liberated in self expression in the outfit and having fun. However, imagine my consternation at 18, all ready to take on the  world when I came out to the big city and found out that the “stylish and best dressed” in Malaysian society and the rest of the world  is a term usually  reserved for those decked in designer togs with the latest IT bag something or other. And so I have ever since been informally the  anti-thesis of well/best dressed ever since.

But there is hope yet,  for style or being stylo , is not accorded to every designer heeled or clothed. Well dressed most may be  but a fashion icon or real style isn’t for the faint hearted and takes a certain individuality and gumption to stand out and dare be counted.

And I am sure most of you have heard of Anna Piaggi , the very eccentric Italian Vogue editor who attends fashion shows in what might be termed by  the unannointed as weird and bordering on lunacy. Wonder how the  Fashion Police of our local “STAR ” newspaper would describe her outfits? Then there is the late Isabella Blow , who discovered Philip Treacy, the hat designer and Alexander McQueen. She was once British Vogue fashion editor, who usually made a statement with the hats that she wore. These two women and others , dare to be different and they know fashion, in fact Anna Piaggi still dictates the world’s fashion trends, but to them fashion isn’t just about wearing designer clothes , but the attire that they don actually tells a story to them. These are ladies who dare and stood out like Coco Chanel and Katherine Hepburn ( who wore man’s pants way before pants became fashionable for women) , but more practical stylish and chic ladies who make statements these days would probably be  Vanessa Seward  (designer of Azzaro) , Daphne Guinness or Mary Kate Olsen  whom we can relate to.

Every detail from the hairclip right down to the thongs, makes up the recipe and produces the final “outfit”. It reminded me of a scene from “Sex and the City” when SJP aka Carrie Bradshaw lost her Manolo Blahniks at a friend’s housewarming party and her devastation wasn’t just because they were Manolo’s but because , that pair of shoes were part of a concocted outfit that complemented and completed the “outfit”  without which it just wasn’t the same , even if replaced by another pair of Manolos…get it? So Fashion Police wotsay?….
