What to do in Vienna, when it is raining outside?

„Es regnet,“ – as they would say in Austria. What to do, when it is raining in Vienna? You have planned your day in Vienna, you have taken a taxi by Airport Bratislava Vienna to get there and it is really raining there. „Kein problem!“ – as the Viennese would say.

Vienna has got a few options to solve the issue of how to spend a day with a nice programme and take the best experience and new information away with you.

Museum of Natural Sciences (Naturhistorisches Museum)

First things first, we will go for the classic. We will set out on a journey of the breathtaking diversity of nature. Where else would you go as in the Museum of Natural Sciences on the Marien-Theresien Platz nearby Hofburg that belongs to the largest museums of natural sciences in the world with its exhibition space of 8700m2.

You can discover the history of the Earth on one place, starting with the insects, through gems and minerals and ending with the dinosaurs. The 29,500 years old so called „Venus of Willendorf“ that was discovered in 1908 in Wachau, a village in Lower Austria, is definitely the jewel of the collection.

The visitors will be certainly attracted by the digital planetarium with the state-of-the-art fulldome technique (it features a sophisticated technology, from the image source to the representation on the dome), the hall of dinosaurs full of skeletons and fossils and also the largest and the oldest collection of meteorites in the world.

Allow yourself a date with the history of the Planet Earth and the beauties of the nature.

Museum of Art History or the Museum of Fine Arts (Kunsthistorisches Museum)

If you are attracted by culture and art, right opposite to the Museum of Natural Sciences you can visit the Museum of Art History. It was built in 1891 and the visitors have a chance to view the most famous art collections in the world.

The picture gallery of the museum is home of honorary works of Western European history of art – works of Raffael, Vermeer, Velazquez, Rubens, Rembrandt, Dürer, Tiziano, Tintoretto and the largest collection of paintings of Bruegel. The fascinating jewels of the ancient cultures are exhibited within the collection Antique and Egyptian – Oriental.

Let yourself be drawn into the ancient times and learn about them through works of art that catch their atmosphere.

There are still other museums of art in Vienna. You will surely find the one that will fully meet your expectations.

Technical Museum (Technisches Museum)

If you belong to the fans of industry, transport or technologies, then the Technical Museum located on the Mariahilfer Strasse shopping street is a perfect place for you.

Besides the Everyday Life permanent exhibition, the Importance of Energies, Mobility, Media, Heavy Industry and others, various interesting, educational short-term exhibitions and presentations are organized here regularly. Worth mentioning are also more than 60 pieces of railway wagon exhibits.

The innovations, anchoring in the current times and in the future times, participation and international perspective became the basis of the philosophy of this museum, while its activities are driven by the idea of sustainability.

House of Music (Haus der Musik)

For the lovers of music this is one of the youngest Viennese museums – Haus der Musik, as it was built in 2000 and it is located in the historical Palace of Archduke Charles in the Old Town. It is an interactive 4-floor museum that invites the visitors into the world of music and game of tones.

At this place you can listen to music but you can also see and feel the sounds and tones, as well as you can create them yourself. You can „play“ Mozart´s game with dice, the children will go to a „zoo“ concert and the braver ones can pick up the conductor´s mallet and they can virtually lead the whole Vienna Philharmonic.

Let yourself be lead on the waves of music.

The Butterfly House (Schmetterlinghaus)

A great place for the gentle natures is the Butterfly House located behind Hofburg on the edge of the Burggarten palace gardens, in the renovated Art Nouveau greenhouse. In this unique, tropical oasis, peaceful and relaxing, you will find more than 500 species of freely living and flying butterflies and you can compare their lives from larva through the pupae to the beautiful butterfly itself.

The overall atmosphere of the Butterfly House is completed by the environment that is fully adjusted to their lives – the air temperature and humidity, the cave, the waterfall, the tropical flora, etc. All this combined with rain drumming on the walls of the greenhouse will be an unforgettable experience for every tourist.

„Heuriger“ wine shops

As Airport Taxi Bratislava will take care about your trip to Vienna, you can allow yourself to be dragged into any of the local „Heuriger“ wineries and let yourself experience a wine-tasting of delicious white wines. In this special type of hospitality spots you can find wine from their own cellars and refreshment in form of homemade specialties.
