T he bodysuit takes centre stage once again! Marianne Power from Mail Online writes: You may remember the body – or bodysuits – of the late Eighties and early Nineties. They were styled to make it look like you’d tucked your top into your jeans, without wrinkling or ruching. The downside was the performance with the poppers at the bottom when visiting the ladies’ room. And detractors said the look wasn’t all that charming. But the body is back, with Dolce & Gabbana and Chloe among those showcasing versions in their spring/summer collections.

Oh yes, I clearly remember ‘em silhouette-enhancing leotards! In fact, I recently purchased a gorge piece from SUPRÉ and love it so much that I’ve been wearing it almost everywhere. Yes, it’s a fitted trend and a little unforgiving (on those “I feel fat days”), but nothing else can enhance the female silhouette more than bodysuits.
Miss Power says: This time, they’re more elegant, with lace or an unusual neckline. For a modern take, pair them with waistband-less trousers or a high-waisted skirt rather than denim.

HOW TO WEAR IT
- Team block colour versions in black or white with high-waisted trousers or a skater skirt.
- Try a bodysuit under something sheer or lace (sheer remains a hot trend for 2011, too).
- For a sexy look, try a body with sheer lace or mesh panelling.
- Don’t buy a body that’s too small – you don’t want to expose half-moons of thigh above trousers or skirt if it rides up.
Get this: 1990 was the year when the New York Times saluted the arrival of the body on to the fashion catwalk as a style for the ‘avant-garde’!
