I t is not often that we’re able to find a lovely eatery that does not only serve good food but also has a wonderful atmosphere that is not generic! So when we do, we simply have to share it with our lovely readers. One such eatery will be the newly opened Fat Spoon Cafe in Damansara Uptown- a beautiful family owned place you’re sure to love!
The first thing that you’d notice would be a set of beautiful old fashion doors you’d expect to find in a kampung house from decades ago. These are genuine antique doors personally sourced by the owners themselves! The entire decor of the place is very traditionally local, with the kind of furniture your parents probably grew up with. From the chalkboards that take you right back to primary school to the rattan chair you saw ages ago in granny’s house, the entire place gives off a nostalgic vibe and makes you feel like you’re back in simpler times.

So a nice environment is all well and good, but what about the food you ask?
The menu comes in a Peter and Jane book, how cute is that! Our order for the day was the Ulam Fried Rice (RM 11.90), Claypot Lou Shu Fun (RM 8.90), Ice Blended Lemonade (RM 8.90) and the Flat White (RM 6.90). You would think that, being a place that serves local dishes, the food would be normal and unimpressive. It most certainly was not! The Ulam Fried Rice was the perfect blend of spices that was full of flavor, with a side of delicious fried chicken. The Lou Shu Fun was warm and comforting, like mom’s own cooking! Fat Spoon’s chefs have successfully added their own twist to local dishes yet managed to retain their authenticity.
As for the drinks, it was clear that Fat Spoon has traded in local drinks for more sophisticated beverages. If you’re expecting Nescafe, you’ll be disappointed! The Flat White was a rich delicious coffee that rivals Starbucks or any other Western coffee chains. The Ice Blended Lemonade was refreshing and lovely!
All in all, a beautiful place to enjoy food, a good cup of coffee and a nice conversation. What with malls being constantly overcrowded, I think KL is in dire need of chill-out spots we don’t have to push through crowds to get to.
