Leather up
By: Cherrypop
Most people may take a more cautious approach to wearing leather (especially in our hotter, more humid climate) and it’s not just about the weather. Likened in the past to biker boys and bad ass, tough characters, these days, leather clothing is cut in more wearable shapes and can be dressed up to look more classic or just trendy. Shorts seem to be a favourite, especially if they are worn in a slouchy style, and even dresses in simple silhouettes are hot picks. Think out of the box because there are more options out there than just leather pants, and they are not very practical. How about an A-line skirt that flatters the body and isn’t clingy, or a loose-fitting tank top in soft leather? Both are great pairings with items like jeans or a white tee.
For a safe match, try neutrals like camel, khaki, olive or grey with black leather. And don’t be afraid to use brown or grey leather for a different touch.
Here we’ve compiled a couple of images of girls wearing leather on the streets from www.stockholmstreetstyle.com and www.facehunter.blogspot.com to inspire, plus leather items from www.shopbop.com so you can get to shopping right away.
Using camel, one of fall’s hottest colours in the form of leggings, the neutral tones combine to make this a very appealing outfit. In this case, the fringed jacket stands out while the leggings and pumps don’t cut off the legs, but instead elongate because of their flesh tones.
A white shirt and a black lace top with black leather pants combine with Doc Marten lace ups for a more demure, yet edgy look.
If you like to show off your legs, loose leather shorts paired with a slouchy tee is a great combination. A vest and black pumps dress it up a little while accessories like a great necklace and layers of bracelets echo the theme.
You can also choose to wear a tunic top over your leather shorts so that the hems peek out for just a hint of cheekiness. The booties elongate the legs and the belt cinches in the top for more shape.
Another look that will go well with a leather skirt or shorts is a jacket and white shirt combination and matching shoes worn with stockings. It’s a play on layers and it works well without it being too warm. If you feel like it, go sans stockings.
A nude bodysuit is daring, but worn over a men’s style coat made of leather and slip on masculine shoes, the effect is just too cool.
This look is more covered up and the point of the focus is the camel zip up jacket, but the fitted pants, black top and jacket are a play on textures which make this look interesting.
Your leather can also be worn on casual ocassions especially if they are paired with flats. This look is sexy without baring too much and is comfortable.
A soft, leathery tank is a mesh of sporty and edgy and is good for pairing with cargo pants or any basic bottom.
The quintessential leather jacket is softer in a brown tone and looks great over a printed frock.
Wear this with a top that covers your bum and some serious heels to a party.
Even a men’s style pair of pants can be found in leather, creating a different texture altogether. It’ll look great paired with a white tank and chain accessories.
For those who are more daring, a printed style pair of leggings looks great for a night out. A black or grey tunic top will let this take centre stage nicely.
The cut of the dress is demure but the subtle shine makes this incredibly seductive. Pile on some bangles and shoes to anchor it.
In a blazer style, leather is more classic and can even be worn to the office.
If you just want to try out the trend, a dress like this with a sparkling patch with leather is a good way to ease into it without feeling overwhelmed.
A pair of paper bag waisted shorts is just one style to try and flatters the waist and hips. Ensure there is plenty of room around the legs or the style will look too tarty.
