Caring for Your Hair
By: lavenderAt a sweeping glance, it can be seen that hair care often takes a back seat for many busy women. We tend to focus on make-up and clothes yet pull our hairs back into a practical ponytails to avoid the hassle. Meanwhile, lack of care is slowly wearing our hair down to a damaged mess! All we have to do is put in a little effort to get our locks looking lovely and healthy. Believe me, nice hair makes such a difference to a person’s overall appearance!
So what exactly does one have to do to achieve gorgeous locks? Well with the help of YouTube beauty gurus and several hairstylists I have talked to, I’ve compiled a list of tips and tricks to healthier hair.
Firstly, there is a special way to shampoo your hair. I was pretty surprised upon finding this out! I always thought that shampoo-ing is one of those things no one needs to be taught! Well according to most experts, shampoo is best applied only to the roots of the hair. This is because that is where most of the grease in your hair is concentrated. As you rinse, the shampoo will travel down to your ends and gently cleanse them without drying them out! Genius, eh? Also, when applying shampoo, massage it into your scalp gently with your fingertips. This helps improve blood circulation which leads to better hair conditions and faster hair growth.
There is also a special way to condition your hair! Conditioner should be applied after every wash to provide moisture. However, it should only be applied to the ends as the scalp produces enough sebum to moisturize the hair around the top of your head. Leave the conditioner on for as long as possible in order to maximize the moisture being absorbed. Then, rinse off with cold water. This helps lock in the moisture for longer lasting smoothness!

Then there is the hair treatment. Yes, it is necessary but no, it does not have to be costly or time consuming! In fact, the results from an expensive hair treatment at a saloon, you can achieve approximately 30 times with a tub of hair mask for the same price! We would suggest hair masks by L’Occitane, Kerastase, our favorite Moroccanoil range or any other line that your hairdresser may recommend. Apply the treatment to your hair the way you would apply a conditioner (i.e. not to the roots) once a week to give your hair the much needed extra nutrition.
An effective alternative would have to be natural hair treatments. These natural treatments are inexpensive, convenient (you can find them anywhere!) and effective. My favorite natural treatments would have to be either natural yogurt or coconut milk. They both have plenty of nutrients to nourish and moisturize your hair to give you that soft healthy glow. The best part is, you get all these benefits without exposing your hair to the harmful chemicals most commercial products contain! And finally, remember to trim your hair once every two to three months. This is to remove the damaged and brittle ends that tend to travel upwards if not removed. Aside from that, trimming also promotes hair growth!
It may sound like a lot of effort, but once you get it incorporated into your daily or weekly routine, you’ll find that these steps are not so difficult at all! Give it a shot and you’ll find that nice hair does wonders for your overall look!
