After his string of flops since his highly successful The Sixth Sense movie, I have lost faith in M. Night Shyamalan’s movies and shied away from watching them, especially after that atrocious movie Lady In The Water which I couldn’t even bring myself to finish because it was just too boring. For lack of anything better to watch in the cinema, I reluctantly decided to try and give The Last Airbender a go.

Based on the adaptation of Nickelodeon’s Avatar: The Last Airbender, The Last Airbender is about a young Avatar named Aang (Noah Ringer), who will be the one responsible for restoring peace among the four nations – Earth, Water, Air and Fire. The Fire nation is raging war against the other nations and attempting to take over, and it is up to Aang and his friends Katara (Nicola Peltz) and Sokka (Jackson Rathbone) to try and stop him. At the same time, Aang has to escape the clutches of Prince Zuko (Dev Patel), who is the son of the Fire Nation Lord who is attempting to capture Aang and bring him back to the Fire Nation to regain honor and respect.

OK, I will give The Last Airbender this much – it was not as terrible as some of Shyamalan’s previous movie flops. Although it was not too bad, it could have been better, because the way the story plays out right now is kind of boring that you find yourself drifting off at some parts. And this movie is only the first part of what is suppose to be a trilogy, and one can only hope that the other two movies will somehow be a bit more interesting than this. Sigh, where oh where as the magic that Shyamalan once had with The Sixth Sense gone? Wherever it is, we hope it comes back soon. 

I would give this movie a two star rating.
