Although the Olsen twins can still be seen with their jumbo-sized satchel walking around the streets of Hollywood like nobody’s business, mini bag is all the rage this season. After so many seasons of oversized everything, fashion is now finally ready to embrace the return of smaller bags, sometimes so tiny that they can only hold your ID, lipstick and some cash.

The mini bag comeback further proved the return of 90s fashion. Popular during the decade when Versace, supermodels and boxy jackets still rule, these small almost miniature-like bags, come in so many patterns and embellishments. The clear evidence is on the runways for Spring 2010 collection. The bags are shockingly small (but in a good way) and it is true when they say that ‘good thing comes in small package’.

At Proenza Schuoler, the bags come in eye-popping colors of canary blue, fluorescent green and shocking pink. The colorful ropes woven through the chains dangling from the bags add more colors and amp up the glamour factor to a higher level. The bags will complete any summer-inspired outfit with their bold, vibrant colors.

The bags at Givenchy are small but unmistakably fabulous. Although they come in black and white, which are not the color to be excited about this season, they are super-versatile and could take you from afternoon coffee to dinner time reservation. Although some people might think that the swirly white chiffon detailing on one of the bags is more suited for night time, the long straps and white leather make it casual enough to be worn with a pair of jeans.

Chanel

Quilted Chanel is the bag that pretty much every girl in the world is saving up their money for. But this summer, Chanel has shrunk the bags into a size that is befitting for a little princess (think Suri Cruise). The bags might be smaller but they are definitely heavier in embellishments than ever with flowers, badges, feathers and fabric appliqués.

Bottega Venetta

Famous for its woven leather bags and accessories, Bottega Veneta sticks to the same technique but incorporated it on smaller bags and clutches. The brightly colored bags grab attention this season with their even brighter straps and zipper charms.

Lanvin

Lanvin mini bags are more structured and come in neutral colors. The chunky gold straps add the touch of luxury and glamor to any outfit this summer.

There you go ladies. Mini bag is definitely a must have this season. If you are the kind of girl who carry the weight of her whole life in her handbag, this is the best time to do a spring cleaning and toss away those empty gum wrappers and movie tickets from last year.
