We Love The 90s!
By: hannef
Fashion is a process of recycling things that worked in the past into something that might work again in the present. Lady Gaga once said about how it’s impossible to be original anymore when everything has been done to death and well-explored in the past, which is absolutely right. Some people call it reaching out for inspiration but some of us just simply accepted this whole process as fashion revival or comeback. Harem-pants, acid wash, neon colors and skinny pants, it seems like for the past few years fashion has been all about the 80s. But now that we are right smack in the middle of the new decade, the 90s are finally on revival.
Some of us who grew up or lived through the 90s will be all excited about taking out all those Dr. Martens and shredded jeans from the attic. But for some of us, we might have second thoughts about looking like Winona Ryder or the casts of the original Beverly Hill 90210 all over again.
Come on people! The 90s are not all about boxy jackets and carrot-cut jeans. There are more to it. Just look at all these young fashion forward girls in their grungy but uber-trendy 90s outtake.

Alexa Chung is the girl of the moment not only for her fashion savvy-ness but also for the fact that she knows fashion and what works well on her. Her grungy effortless style has been copied by young girls throughout the world. And when Miss Chung started sporting her 90s cropped leather jacket with another 90s must have; floral dress, the world knows that the 90s are back.
Alice Dellal with her half-shaved head is the symbol of 90s style redefined. Who else can rock the hair and the shredded tights with all those crazy chains other than her?
Having a rock star father and supermodel of the 90s as their mother, sisters Elizabeth and Georgia Jagger translated their glorious rock n roll family background into their style. The hair, the floral dress and beret are 90s essential that they worked very well into the Naughties.
The newly crowned wild-child, Taylor Momsen and the ever so stylish Mary-Kate Olsen have been seen walking in Hollywood in their red-flannels. Another 90s essential, it looks great with jeans and black tights.
So the part of the Nineties that needs to be focused on is the grunge movement. Think more in the line of Kelly Bundy and less of Fran Drescher (The Nanny). The TV series 21 Jump Street and not that much of Fresh Prince of Bell Air.
Well for those who are still skeptical about the comeback of the 90s fashion, maybe they should wait a little while and let the whole idea sink into their stylish veins. Just don’t wait too long because Miss Klum is right when she said that ‘In fashion, one day you’re in and the next day you’re out’.
