Menswear Milan Fashion Week

Milan Fashion Week celebrates the arrival of our favorite season of the year. But we know how fashion is all about staying ahead. So that’s why instead of celebrating the arrival of spring 2010, Milan has already welcomed the arrival of spring 2011. Having said that, Milan Fashion Week is a very important event in men’s fashion calendar where all the biggest names showcased their future summer inspirations and ‘dictate’ the trends before it even started. Whatever it is that we saw at fashion week is pretty much what we should look like for seasons to come.

Well, it can be a bit complicated. But if you live for fashion and want to always stay ahead of everybody else, read on and pay attention because the key trends for Spring 2011 are about to be revealed.

Prada- Short sleeves and short pants

pr

Miuccia Prada’s designs for spring really scream comfort with all the shorts and loose-fitting silhouette. The shirts almost look like surgical scrubs but what’s underneath them are more attention grabbing. Peeking through from the necks and sleeves are the brightest pops of summery orange, yellow and blue. The chunky lace-up shoes tie everything together keeping the volume of the entire look in check.

Jil Sander- Neons

Jil Sander’s pale palette of the past few seasons was reviewed as a little bit too basic and bare. So this time around Jil Sander showcased one of the most interesting color combinations; almost identical to those taken out from a huge box of crayons. Colors are everywhere from the orange pants to cobalt blue shirts and geometrical stripes sweater. Still not steering too far away from the basic silhouette that Jil Sander has been famous for but the colors and razor-sharp tailoring make everything seems so special.

Bottega Veneta- Slouched and airy

Bottega Veneta traded the fussy shapes of winter for slouchy and light-weight staples of the summer. Cuffed shorts, wide-necked shirts and judo-style pants allow some freedom of movement for the season. As for the footwear, there are leather sandals and very interesting high-cut topsiders which will definitely be a hit with the hipsters.

Burberry Prorsum- Mod-rockers

Christopher Bailey celebrates the rock star within him (and us) with his creations of olive trench, Wellington boots and studded leather jackets. Totally different from what had been offered previously. But this is the kind of surprise that can be expected from the same designer who made scuba chic and oh-so-stylish a couple of years ago. Some critiques said that the leather jacket is a bit overwhelming for a spring collection and the entire look is more befitting for a pre-fall show. But these days even Malaysians wear leather, so it is not really that big of a problem.

Moncler Gamme Bleu- Windbreakers and active gear

Thom Browne collection of white windbreakers with splashes of red and blue make cycling cool again. No crazy lycra neon cycling shorts in sight, just a parade of models perfectly dressed in the most stylish cycling gear ever. And yes they were all on bicycles.
