Fashion at Sex and The City 2 Premiere
By: hannefAlright, so Sex and The City 2 didn’t manage to do as well as Shrek 3 at the box-office. But there’s nothing wrong with the second installment. The movie is still fun, entertaining and women all over the globe are still drooling over the fashion and curious to know about the next chapter in Carrie and her BFF’s lives. Even the reviews haven’t all been that negative.
All those aside, let’s try and see the movie from fashion perspective because after all, that is exactly what Sex and The City is all about. And ladies (and gentlemen), they’re planning the third movie anyways. So there’s nothing to lose our beauty sleep over.
The movie was released consecutively in the US and the UK with two separate red carpet premieres. The expectation was very high and the populations of the fashion world hold their breath to see what the girls will be wearing.
So here’s the fashion lowdown of Sex and The City premiere in both sides of the Atlantic.

The US premiere of the movie saw SJP rocked a Day-Glo Valentino with dreamy asymmetrical train and clever neckline. Most fashion journalists predicted that Sarah Jessica Parker was going to wear Halston or Alexander McQueen, but SJP being the fashion icon that she is, surprised everyone with her shocking green dress. Kristin Davis wore a vintage Jean Desses from Decades Inc. Not too sure whether it was planned, but her dress shared the same theme of SJP’s shocking color frock. Cynthia Nixon went for minimalist-chic look in her black Carolina Harrera dress. Nothing on her neck, just a simple brooch on her chest and a pair of drop earings. Kim Catrall, the vixen opted for a gold Naeem Khan dress with a little bit of Old Hollywood feel complimented by her wavy hair.

The next day, for the UK premiere across the pond, Sarah Jessica wore the same designers that she wore for the UK premiere of the first movie, and we’re talking about Alexander McQueen and Philip Treacy. But this time around Sarah Jessica decided to go with a black tulle and lace dress (Summer/Spring 2008) complete with black armband (with two diamonds) to show her mourning for McQ’s death. The Philip Treacy black cloud hat complimented the look and mood that SJP was trying to get across. Maybe that was the reason she was all bright in green the day before. She wanted to balance it out with the gloomy black of the Alexander McQueen. Kristin Davis wore another vintage dress from Decades Inc. but this time it’s Norman Norell teamed with Jimmy Choo Zena heels. The halter neckline and embellished waist showcased her womanly figure and classic beauty. Kim Catrall also wore a vintage dress from Thierry Mugler and she channeled her inner old Hollywood goddess again with the retro hairstyle. Cynthia Nixon also decided not to steer away too far from her preferred minimalist look in teal Narcisso Rodriguez dress although she changed later on into a shorter Erdem dress paired with Jimmy Choo Quiet open-toe heels. The only noticeable difference was her hair extension which so many fashion bloggers decided to dislike.
These two premieres show how these girls still have it; they are still fashionable and relevant even after more than ten years the series first debuted. Who cares if the movie is getting bad reviews? We will still be watching, if not for the relationship dramas, then we’ll be happy just seeing the girls stomping around the sidewalks of New York city in their chic little outfits.
