The Metropolitan Museum’s Costume Institute Benefit this year was held just like any other year with a very interesting theme. Celebrating the opening of American Woman: Fashioning a National Identity, the interior at the party borrowed the inspiration from the past which included wicker chairs at the dinner tables and a hot air balloon inspired by the one from 1893.

Making early grand entrance for the party was NASCAR driver Jeff Gordon, followed by Anna Wintour and Oprah Winfrey. Aside from these abovementioned VVIP, the event also attended by extended list of A-list celebrities, designers and of course fashion models. Some of them even arrived hand in hand with the designers of their choice.

So here are the style low downs at The Met’s 2010

The favorite of the night has to be Jennifer Lopez in Zuhair Murad strapless gown complete with Cartier and Stephen Russell jewels and a Judith Leiber clutch. Jennifer Lopez is trying to earn back her crown as the style icon since she has been making one fashion mistake after another for the past couple of years. J.Lo has been making up for that since we saw her in that stunning Armani Prive dress at the Oscar earlier this year. Another favorite at The Met’s this year is model Coco Rocha in Zac Posen dress with its incredible train. The color and the shape of the dress is very of-the-moment. She complimented the look with Everlon jewels.

Fashion-forward girls like Chloe Sevigny and Alexa Chung showed up at the party with their dress designers as their dates. Chloe Sevigny wore this fabulous Proenza Schuler lace dress with the design duo, Lazaro Hernandez and Jack McColllough side by side. Same goes with Alexa Chung who walked the red carpet in 3.1 Phillip Lim and the man himself.

Sarah Jessica Parker opted for simpler Halston dress with a matching oversized flower in her hair. She still looked stunning as ever even without long trains and heavy embellishment. Emma Roberts also went for an LBD by Marni with some waist detailing.

Edgy fashionistas like Blake Lively and Cassie opted for unusual designs for the gala. The Gossip Girl wore Marchesa dress with alluring flower details exploding from both sides of the mini dress. The color blue really did wonders for her skin color. As for Cassie, she wore Versace dress with a thigh slit and geometric neckline. The dress was appropriate enough for her crazy hairstyle.

Other fashionable stars seen at The Met’s are model Chanel Iman in a Michael Kors glittery jumpsuit, Maggie Gyllenhaal in Louis Vuitton, Jessica Alba looking very old Hollywood movie-star in Sophie Theallet for Gap and very boho-chic Nicole Richie in Marc Jacobs.

The Metropolitan Museum’s Costume Institute Benefit has always been a much awaited event of the year and everyone knows how it never disappoints. We are looking forward for next year for the fashion feast and style galore.
