Flared Trousers!
By: aphrodite
Are you going “Oh, cringe” just yet? So the first thought of flared trousers would probably bring back memories of the ‘oversized pants’ of yesteryear. Yes, I am talking about those that your parents wore. I bet you’ve probably looked back at their 60s and 70s photos and laughed hysterically at their bell bottoms (you’re not the only one; I am guilty of doing so too!). Famous flare wearers include Tom Jones, Abba and the Charlie’s Angels trio to mention a few.

You know how people say that fashion always return? Well, the flare is back in style! Forget about wide-legged denims and boho-styled flares of those days. This time around, we get refreshingly sexy trousers in earthy tones and the newest of new textures; that are absolutely wearable might I add.

The recent autumn/winter runways were resplendent with flared trousers of all kinds… Pucci chose to make a statement in striking red and textured flares, Gareth Pugh went for structured styles in heavy fabrics and my favourite has got to be the loose and beige tones of Chloe. Derek Lam, Prada and Rochas also welcomed the trend with their very own flared designs. As always, once spotted on the runways, celebs just had to embrace this trend as well. Rachel Zoe, Stella McCartney and Erin Wasson were spotted in some seriously flattering pants.

I have never worn a pair of flared trousers in my life – not because I don’t like the style, but purely because I am a little on the short side. Vertically challenged misses should try to stay clear of wide-leg trousers that run a little long. It’ll just drown you out. Your best bet would be to go for cropped options with a hem just above the ankle bone; this will help to elongate your legs. Oh, by the way, please don’t donate away your skinnies and leggings just yet. Fashionistas might want to sport this flared trousers trend, but if you keep up with fashion enough, you’ll know that skinny pants will be back in style – in no time.

Would you wear flared trousers?
