The Dilemma of Men’s Underwear

College years were all about sagging jeans and colorful boxers on display. I don’t know about you guys, but mine seemed to be that way. I remember how all of us had these crazy-colored boxers with the tackiest patterns on it. And then we proudly showed them off the back of our jeans. Think fireman, Spongebob, beer cans, even vegetables on very loud backgrounds!

Now I wonder where my Santa Clause boxer is…

But that feels like a billion years ago. I don’t think people really wear baggy 90s hip-hop type baggy jeans anymore. The jeans have shrunk. Even work pants are now skinnier than they were in 1960s. Imagine wearing those crazy boxers with your skinny jeans. Scary? Tell me about it.

We have a lot more options these days. Different type of pants require specific type of underwear. And what about those special occasions? Come on! You know what I mean. You don’t want to unzip only to reveal your Batman boxers, do you?

So here are top three picks of underwear for the gentlemen:

q

Alexander McQueen

Boxer-briefs
The safest bet because they have both the comfy of boxer shorts and the tightness of normal briefs. Boxer-briefs come in stretchy fabrics which allow movement and let the skin ‘under there’ breathe. Always buy the right size because if they’re too small, you’ll find them lifted up as you walk. Too big and you’ll find them on your knees by lunch hour at the office.

Briefs
Briefs are the traditional underwear for the gentlemen before boxers took over. No thanks to those prison inmates. Briefs might not be every guy’s cup of tea, but they are perfect for the current slim and skinny trends that we are still worshipping. Briefs do not leave unwanted lines and bumps underneath your pants. And the best part is they actually enhance our ‘behinds’ and uplift them Briefs are also being referred to as tighty-whities because they are tight and for whatever reason white briefs are more popular among guys. But one thing to remember is to look for briefs made out of materials such as Modal or Tencel fabrics because they are extremely breathable.

Boxers
Hate ‘em or love ‘em, boxers will still be favorite among guys. Possibly for their practicality as the wearers can always take their pants off without the inferiority that briefs give them. Boxers don’t cling to the body the way that briefs do and they don’t give away too much information about the wearer. For this reason, most guys are comfortable in their boxers at home. They even wear them to sleep. Have you seen any of your guy friends walking around at home in their briefs when you’re around? Exactly what my point is. Boxers are safer choice as they are shapeless and flattering on all types of body. That’s why guys try to make up for their safe choice by going crazy with the prints and colors. Just to compensate, I guess.

Man Spanx?

So the choice is in your hands people. Just decide on one that you feel most comfortable with. If everything failed, there’s always ‘man spanx’ or they call it ‘core precision undershirt’, whatever that is supposed to mean. Brands like Rip T Fusion, 2 (x)ist and of course Spanx have been pushing this idea forward for quite sometime now. It’s still too early to tell. Maybe it will catch on. Who knows?
