If you’ve recently seen a trendy-looking lady sporting a pair of colourful socks with her high heels, try not to stare hard or laugh out loud, okay. Apparently, this S’n'S foot statement is one of the hottest trends of the moment. Are you going ‘Oh, cringe’ just yet? To make you feel a little better, you are not the only one. If you are one of those who keeps up with the latest fashion trends, you’d surely know that this socks and shoes pair-up was once known as the biggest fashion faux pas ever.

As usual, savvy fashion designers had to break the rules and deck their models out in shoes paired up with socks. The Spring/Summer 2010 runways saw a whole variety of socks (ankle to knee-highs, sheers to woolens) matched with stacked heels, platforms and wedges. Sure, the models looked pretty awesome in this trend (no matter what they wear, they almost always look good on the runways – most of the time, anyway).

Think you can pull off this look? Now, imagine incorporating this trend into your daily wear… My oh my, seems a little daunting doesn’t it? Nathalie Rykiel of Sonia Rykiel explains the key to pulling off the look. “Socks are not the sexiest thing on earth. But it is a question of attitude- the way she moves, sits, what else she wears,” she said. Those thick, woolen socks are a definite no-go for me. However, I quite like the sheer and glittery socks teamed up with a pair of platforms. To rock this look without looking like your too cool for school, please leave your white gym socks for er… the gym. Pick out sheer or prettily patterned ones and pair them up with clogs, stacked heels or chunky platforms. A word of caution, don’t try this style out with flats and stilettos. The key is to cleverly match your items up… just so that you won’t look like a walking fashion disaster.

Even Marc Jacobs is doing it too!

Would you ever wear socks and high heels together?
