The launch of Debenhams store last Tuesday marks the return of Lot 10 as one of the trendiest shopping malls in Kuala Lumpur. It was a glamorous affair with local celebrities and fashion designers on the guest list. Ning Baizura, Kavita Sidhu, Jimmy Choo, Mayor of KL, Bernard Chandran and of course the centre of the party Mr. Matthew Williamson.

I was lucky enough to get the chance to have a little bit of quick chats here and there with all of these gorgeous attendees. I even managed to squeeze out some juicy gossips and updates in between the flashbulbs and champagne toasting.

Upon the first opportunity to say hi to Matthew Williamson, I congratulated him and then asked him why his BFF, Sienna Miller is nowhere to be seen. He told me that Sienna is currently having a vacation in Ethiopia with her boyfriend, Jude Law. He had this sheepish grin on his face as he whispered the word ‘boyfriend’ to my ears. I wonder what that means…

Aside from his Butterfly line for Debenhams, he is also currently busy with his new men’s line, simply called ‘Matthew Williamson Men’s’. He went for slightly low-key approach for the designs compared to his usual kaleidoscopic patterns and bright colors women’s wear collection. He also gushed about how glad he is to be ‘able to include aspects of his personal style in the men’s collection for the first time in his career’.

Matthew Williamson is definitely an awesome designer. He’s witty and very friendly. I hope he’ll drop by to this side of the world again someday.

Bernard Chandran was also there looking hot in his jacket and jeans along with his mohair, giraffe-print boots. He talked to me about his new collection which he had to fly straight from London for the shooting of Britain’s Next Top Model here in Malaysia. The pieces are currently in Cyberjaya for the shooting of one of the final episodes. Looks like the girls will be donning ‘Bernard Chandran’ for the big finale!

Bernard is such a busy man and he has been working so hard to get to where is today. But he never failed to flash that pearly-white smile across his face. One of the greatest Malaysian designers hands down.

As for former beauty queen and actress, Kavita Sidhu, she was surprised when I told her that I have seen and love her first collection. She actually debuted the collection, KAVITA, at the Stylo fashion show which took place not too long ago. She was very humble and told me how she has just started and have a lot more to learn. She also mentioned about her plan for the next collection, which I responded by saying that I can’t wait to see it!

Also spotted at the event was Malaysian songbird Ning Baizura; who told me to me to hurry up with the camera because she couldn’t wait to go shopping. She looked gorgeous in her white blouse and pencil skirt ensemble. I also learned later on that her python clutch was actually from her future clothing line. Maggie Abang Saufi (sister of designer Tom Abang Saufi) was also there snapping photos of H by Henry Holland at the store and analyzing items on each rack, perhaps for something that her friend singer, Camelia could wear.

Stephanie Chai was the host that night looking gorgeous in Matthew Williamson of course. Despite the limited length of the runway stage, the fashion show showcasing specially designed clothes for Debenhams by designers like Jasper Conran, Julien MacDonald, John Rocha, Ben Di Lisi and Matthew Williamson himself was definitely inspiring.

Definitely a great event and Matthew Williamson should definitely come back for MIfA.
