The world knows about my love-hate relationship with Victoria Beckham. Not exactly a huge fan of his personal style but this girl has been trying sooo hard to break into fashion. We have to give it up to her for being there at the front row of fashion shows on Fashion Week, squeezing her bony frame into almost every creations of Karl Lagerfeld and she has even tried her hands at creating her own line of jeans (dVb) and fragrances.

So it was not really a surprise to see how several different stars have recently picked up Victoria Beckham dresses to be worn on the red carpet of premieres and award shows. A full-fledged fashion line was definitely in the work according to her, but it kinda surprised me on how well-received it is and how well-designed these dresses really are.

Beckham unveiled her collection to a small group of buyers and fashion editors for Fall 2010 earlier this year. It was a very intimate affair with her describing every detail of the garments as they went down the runway one look after another. Attendees were impressed with the way she passionately talked about her designs and how it reflected the amount of knowledge that she has gathered ever since her first venture into the fashion world. I wonder if she learned all these from other designers or simply from fashion mistakes that she made throughout her career.

But Victoria Beckham (the fashion line) has been such a huge hit. With only four collections presented so far, it has managed to create quite a buzz with celebrity clients like Sarah Jessica Parker, Cameron Diaz, Blake Lively, Eva Longoria and the list goes on. The hit factor of the collection lies on the fact that Beckham managed to execute more than one design elements in each garments and how they all seem to be very of-the-moment.

She cleverly combines structured, body-con skirts with drape tops as well as floor length dresses with cinched waist that holds the look together. She also added more color options to the collection instead of the stark black, white and beige. She introduced vibrant colors like blue, red, metallic and even graphic detailing on some of the dresses.

It was overall a strong collection with minimalist approach which is a very appropriate choice of fashion for now. With even Marc Jacobs decided to tone down his design aesthetic for Louis Vuitton, Beckham’s designs seem to be very much on track of the current demand and expectation. She hit high notes with the LBD, pencil skirts and jersey dresses.

Beckham has been sporting several look from the collection but still that is not the only reason to be seen in ‘Victoria Beckham’. This is not like Lindsay Lohan stint at Emanual Ungaroo kind of gimmick. This is real design. Even SJP has given her seal of approval. It is hard for me to say, but kudos to Victoria Beckham, the designer.
