Quiff It Baby

The recent years mark the return of old school glamour with influences from pop culture phenomenon and Hollywood stars who embody the retro trends revivals. Men especially, have ditched the concert tees for polo shirts, motorcycle jackets for sports jackets, sneakers for Chelsea boots and spiky hair for quiff, Morrissey-esq hairstyle.
This recent change in taste has been hugely influenced by television shows like Madmen, movie stars like George Clooney, musicians like Mark Ronson and also fashion designers like Tom Ford and Burberry. These strong pop culture powerhouses have greatly pushed forward the idea of head to toe glamour and polished look and replace the dishevelled and rock star inspired image which has been the staple look since the early Naughties. Even Zac Efron has now replaced her side- swept indie rock star hair for gelled and shorter crop.
The most prominent part of the whole old- school glamour look is the hair. The hair is now cut shorter and instead of heavily waxed and spiky, it is combed with longer top. It was hugely popular in the 50s and 60s, spotted by stars like James Dean, Elvis, and Montgomery Clift (pic) but lately has managed to crawl its way back into fashion. Chace Crawford, Channing Tatum, Robert Pattinson, Shia Lebouf and Leonardo Dicaprio have all been seen spotted the hair trend and many others have followed suit including designers like Bottega Venneta, Gucci and Marc Jacobs.
The key to achieve the look is to have good hair texture, which is slightly thick and straight. A trip to a good hairstylist will take things to another level by knowing exactly what you want. The hair will have to be cut shorter around the ears and neck but the crown part should be left longer which later will be tousled or combed to perfection. Products of choice have to be pomade which will give body to the hair. Blow-drying the hair will help to give it volume and let it stay the way it is for longer period.
So, it’s about time we all ditched that Beckham circa 2002 haircut because this time around it’s more about old Hollywood than stylish footballer.
