Her Name Is Nicole Part II
By: hannef
We talked to fabulous Miss Nicole again for some makeup tips and words of advice to the ladies out there. Let’s hear it from this fierce makeup artist extraordinaire!
What do you think will be the hottest color of 2010?
While we’ve thankfully moved past that ’90s flashback of fluorescent clothing, it’s important to note that neons haven’t been banished from the planet for good — they’ve just made their way to the makeup section! I know, the idea sounds terrifying. But with the right hues and a gentle touch, bright pops of color are an emerging makeup trend that’s making feminine features stand out in a feisty and modern way. I’d like to see hot pink, lime green and tangerine come back. I think neon shades will make a big come back this year, whether it’s on the eyes, lips or nails!
We have seen make up trends like winged-out eyeliner, nude lips, rosy cheeks and racoon eyes of the late years. So what do you think will be the trend for this year?
I think the nude lip, liner, rosy cheeks and smoky eyes will always be in trend. But perhaps we are going up exaggerate it this year and make it edgier, bolder and more daring – the way Amy Winehouse did it with eye liner. I dare hope that designers will mix darkness with slashes of bright hues like a deep contrast between grunge and pop, think the love child of Courtney Love and David Bowie. Instead of your regular black eye shadow, flirt around with black glitter, gunmetal eye shadow, midnight blue even. Don’t be afraid of trying louder colors like fuchsia and coral. If this may seem a little scary to you, take baby steps by focusing on one feature at a time. Instead of a bright blue shadow, why not start with a blue liner or mascara first?
Which product is the best to achieve above look?
I’m a diehard Mac fan. Maybe they have the best products in the world, maybe I have a strong sense of loyalty (I am a Leo after all).
Next month they are launching a fierce 4 in 1 collection called Spring Color Forecast. They have every florescent color you can think of. Just don’t wear it all at once! My personal favourite would be Beigeland lipstick, Kumquat lipglass and Malibu Peach polish.. I accept early Christmas presents, thanks.
For those who rather stick to minimal/barely-there look, how do they amp it up for a special event without looking overdone?
I think the nude look will always be in. It’s easy to wear and it’s a fail proof idea to looking slick “naturally”. Personally it’s my favourite look of all time. It takes me 40 mins to look ‘natural’ but no one has to know. To just give it a bit of pizzas, you can add a little gloss on your lips, peach shimmer on your cheekbones or use a makeup base with a little cream highlighter in it to make you look ethereal. There’s nothing sexier than dewy soft skin. Sometimes when I’m feeling a little groovy I like to dab gold shimmer on the inner corner of my eyes and dust my skin with a hint of bronzer and add a little individual false lashes. Then I’m ready to get this party started!
Lady GaGa futuristic, dramatic make up. How do we replicate that without having people mistaken you for a Christmas tree?
I hope the future doesn’t look like Gaga!! I think to make Gaga more wearable, you can just pick up one of the thousand trends she pulls off at once and just focussing on one feature. For example, when she wear false lashes, red lips, hot pink blusher and blue eye shadow, you can just go crazy with flirty false lashes and keeping the rest minimal and soft. There are 365 days in a year, what’s the rush? Try one trend at a time.
Each season we see different type of beauty stealing the limelight, from Scarlett Johannson to Marion Cotillard. Who do you think is the epitome of beauty for 2010?
I love Jennifer Lopez. She always looks beautiful without trying. But different girls will have different role models to look up to. Not everyone will look up to the same person who isn’t the same age, skin color or age. To me, looking good isn’t hiding behind products but merely using these advantages and technology to enhance what you have. Like a Photoshop tool brush in a compact. I think Blake Lively, Kerry Washington, Ciara, Julianne Moore, Aishwayra Rai and Lucy Liu are wonderful role models.
Final advice to all the fabulous ladies like yourself out there?
Take care of yourself, love the skin you are in and have fun! No one is going to love you if you don’t love yourself. Don’t be afraid to experiment and to try something out of the ordinary. Makeup washes off!
All of us at Emmagem would like to wish Nicole a fantastic career ahead of her. Keep on making them beautiful sweetie!

Props for you, Miss Thing!
If recreating a look is meant to be fun, no-holds barred, then you’ve conveyed the art of looking beautiful, perfectly.
Telling young impressionable that they should love themselves first, painting a beautiful face on, requires loving the canvas, first within should be as you make it sound- effortless, fairly painless- we can only hope! and embracing all that you are.

Hi Nicole,
Firstly i love you work!! I have a question for you, would you do a tutorial on how do a smokey with pale lips? I believe that’s the trend right now for most girls. I would absolutely appreciate it.
