If Not Now, When? by Tsem Tulku Rinpoche-book review

“IF NOT NOW, WHEN?” , The Peace edition , is  a beautiful book both visually as well as from the depth of meaning of each word, with a  wealth of wisdom and  knowledge and good intentions. Written by His Eminence Tsem Tulku Rinpoche , a grand lama from Kechara House. It is a book that is intended to appeal to both young and old, modern and traditionalist. It is a cross between a self help book “to address the daily issues which drag us down-sadness, anger, conflict, irresponsibility, fear and death”- that  aims at imparting  teachings from a high order lama. His Eminence is a certified (by the Dalai Lama) high incarnate Lama of Gaden Shartse ,hence the title Tulku.

Depending on one’s propensity, it could also be a casual read coffee table book  with some arrestingly evocative pictures, which are meant to paint a thousand words but it is also  a book   where the pictures, which does not always correlate with the wordings but instead suggests to the imagination to absorb the story more. The pictures thus became the metaphors, which allows the sub conscious mind to take a deeper meaning of each quotation. All the pictures were contributed by various photographers who were invited to choose through their own favorite collections which best depict the quotations.

This edition, which plucks quotes from His Eminence’s book PEACE, is to reflect according to Miss Phng Li Kim, CEO of KMP, not just external peace and much needed world peace but  the origins of all peace, which is from every one’s peace of mind.

Edited by Miss Jamie Khoo and Miss Sharon Saw, of Kechara Media and Publications, it was very obviously a labor  of love for all parties involved. It is certainly a light enough and easily understood book both from an aesthestic value, a philosophical and even theological point of view, the  lines are quite blurred in this book. Does it dilute the teachings of Buddhism, I guess not  much even though I am a traditionalist, I believe any which way whenst compassion can be instilled in someone must be a good thing.

  8. Great book, very modern and contemporary a refreshing take on tibetan buddhism. Tsem Tulku Rinpoche is such a tell it like it is Lama, you should see his videos on Youtube, search for tsemtulku i’m sure you’ll find it very very different from the media’s portrayal of what Tibetan Buddhist Lamas should be like.

  9. What I have learnt about Buddhism lately is what we have been taught all along,it isn’t a religion as much as it is their teachings that are most powerful. It is therefore quite liberal…whatis important are fundamentals which we shud all live by at least for me-compassion, respect, peace…

Tsem Rinpoche and another Syalpa Rinpoche (I had the pleasure of listening to him) both embrace and epitomise the teachings of Buddihsm and are both forward thinking Rinpoche who move with the times…
