Got It -Bags?
By: hannef
Recent years have seen the emergence of accessories as the focal point of designer’s collections. At times, the handbags, shoes and other accessories are more overpowering than the whole collection itself. Remember the Prada satin turban-headband circa 2007? The whole collection garnered a lot of buzz simply because of jewel-toned headgears seen on the models during the show. The same thing happened recently with Alexander McQueen. The 10-inch ‘armadillo shoes’ had people talking about its wearability and it didn’t help that Lady GaGa and Daphne Guinness were sporting wearing their pairs in music video and book launch party respectively. Marni collections also mostly got noticed for the boho-chic necklace that compliments the garments they send down the runway.

But the bags seem to be the best item that the fashionistas can wear straight off the runway. It doesn’t matter whether you are short, tall, fat or skinny, you can still wear them with pride and your raw confidence without sacrificing comfort if compared to the abovementioned Prada turban or ‘armadillo shoes’. The Chloe Paddington, Chloe Silverado, Balenciaga city bag, Chanel 2.55 and Fendi Spybag are some of the iconic bags that have been gracing the arms of so many celebrities and fashionistas the world over for these past recent years.
Let’s look at some of the current it-bags of today.
1. Alexander Wang Coco Duffel
The bag was such a hit even before it was paraded down the runway of the designer’s Fall 2009 collection. How is that possible? Just send one to Mary-Kate Olsen and make sure she carries the bag while being chased down by paparazzi in the streets of Hollywood. But another thing that makes this bag special is the studded bottom that really gives that dirty, rock star edge to it.
2. Christian Louboutin Sylvia hobo bag
The bag was mostly made popular by Carrie Bradshaw in Sex and The City 2. The movie is not even out yet, but the photos of the four girls shooting their scenes in various stylish garbs have been on fashion and gossip magazines throughout the year of 2009. The Christian Louboutin Sylvia hobo bag was in the earlier scenes shot for the movie.
3. Chloe Marcie and Paraty bag
Chloe Marcie is a hobo bag with this fabulous stitching and detailing on the handle while Chloe Paraty has been dubbed as the most popular bag by Chloe after The Paddington. Both bags have been making rounds in Hollywoods seen in the arms of Rachel Zoe, Lindsay Lohan and Katie Holmes.
4. Jimmy Choo Blythe tote
The tote has the same idea of gladiator sandals with the multiple side buckles and comes in various colors and leather. January Jones and Rachel Bilson have both been seen completing their looks with the tote.
5. Prada Saffiano leather tote
There is a UK fashion blog which started this idea of bag intervention for celebs who have been caught too many times carrying the same bags. Sienna Miller was one of them when there were consistent amount of paparazzi snaps of her around town in her burgundy Prada Saffiano leather tote. The bag is chic and very functional with ample space for all the necessities but for a celebrity who’s being photographed almost every single time she steps out of the house, it’s good to mix it up a little bit.
So here we are now in 2010. Have you found your it-bag of the year?
