“The true color of life is the color of the body, the color of the covered red, the implicit and not explicit red of the living heart and the pulses. It is the modest color of the unpublished blood.” –Alice Meynell

American fashion designer Bill Blass not only said “When in doubt wear red”, he also said “Red is the ultimate cure for sadness”! He definitely knew what he was talking about; the man was spot on. Although white used to be my fave colour, I’ve recently switched over to RED and decided to take a walk on the wild side. Instead of feeling pure and innocent every time I wear white, when I wear red, I not only feel super-sultry, I also feel like I’m ready to take on anything that comes along my way. I tell you, the colour red is surely a great confidence booster! When I wake up and see that the weather is gloomy outside, instead of pulling on a dull colour, I go red and feel it perk up my day!

With the festive season around the corner, red is ultimately the colour to wear! It is the ruling colour for Christmas and it forms an important part of most Christmas celebrations. While the daring colour symbolizes happiness, joy and love; it does not come off as a surprise that red is usually the dress code for Christmas parties. Take your cue from these celebs:

Ashley Greene

Claudia Schiffer

Christina Ricci

Ciara & Lisa Snowdon

Daisy Lowe

Eva Green & Georgia May Jagger

Fergie & Katy Perry

Penelope Cruz

Red is a very sexy colour! Learn how to pick put the perfect red shade for your skin tone to ensure that you don’t look tacky or completely washed out. Red comes in a wide variety from light pinkish red to purple reds and even plums. One of the best ways to choose your red is to hold it up against your face. If the shade brings out your features and you look bright, this is the right red for you. Stay away from that particular hue if the colour overpowers your features or if your skin looks ashy. Here’s how you can get comfortable in red:

If you have fair skin:
Go for soft plums or berries such as a luscious raspberry shade! You’d also look fab in bright reds.

If you have olive skin:
Your safest reds are brownish reds and dark berry shades. You could also go for pure red. Stay away from reds with too much of blue in it; you will only look washed out.

If you have deep skin:

You’ll look great in any red! Take your pick from bight reds to brick reds. Try not to go for a red with too much purple or too much in it. Burgundies or red wines will also help flatter your tanned skin!

  • If you are ready to make a bold statement, a little red dress is the way to go! Keep it simple elsewhere and go for neutral or metallic (neutral) accessories, so that you don’t look OTT.
  • Just inject a teensy bit of red to your overall ensemble. You could consider wearing red underneath your clothing; pick out a lacy red camisole and throw on a pull over or jacket on top. Wrap yourself in a luxurious red stole or scarf, red high-heeled pumps to amp up your sex appeal or a red waist cincher to instantly slim you down; the possibilities are endless.
  • Mix your red piece with neutrals; instead of the boring red and black get up or red with black or white, try combining with metallic colours like gold or silver. Also, you could opt to go for red prints mixed with other colours if you don’t really like stealing the limelight.
