Chloe Sevigny for Opening Ceremony
By: yetmee
Chloe Sevigny is the epitome of fashion greatness. She is always ahead of everyone in fashion business. Even the designers are trying to keep up with her. What make Chloe Sevigny a true blue fashion icon is the way she drops off trends as soon as others started to pick them up. She was the first to be spotted wearing Wa
There are so many things that can be said about Chloe Sevigny. She has pretty much done it all. She shaved her head once while interning for nineties teen magazine Sassy, starred in rock videos by bands like Lemonheads and SonicYouth, became the muse for fashion designers like Nicholas Ghesquiere (Balenciaga) and Michael Kors, acted in a Woody Allen movie (Melinda, Melinda), nominated for the Oscar and Golden Globes and to cement her iconic status, Chloe now has a fashion line with New York boutique, Opening Ceremony.
Chloe Sevigny collection for Opening Ceremony came out last fall to mixed reviews. The collection consists of what some fashion bloggers described as “dusty stuff that only Chloe Sevigny can pull off”. The reality is not everyone can understand her fashion sense and not all of us think that dressing up like a grungy- school girl or pre-school teacher with horn-rimmed glasses is in any way fashionable. But that is what Chloe Sevigny is all about and the same goes with her fashion collaboration with Opening Ceremony.
For Fall-Winter 2009/2010, Chloe Sevigny plays with the idea of unisex clothing. The collection boasts an array of selections suitable for the season from jackets and blazers, shirts and pullovers, over-sized scarves and trousers to platform penny and buckle loafers. They are all unisex and can be styled to suits both man and woman.
As fresh and inventive as it sound, there are some garments that really should just belong to a woman’s closet. The pleated pants for instance looked a little bit awkward even on the six feet tall male model and so does the platform loafers. But there are some wonderful pieces like the deconstructed soft blazer, short jacket and flannel button-down that really balance things up.
Again, this might not be for everyone. But it’s fresh, fashion forward and really showcases Chloe Sevigny eclecticism and penchant for risqué fashion. As for me, I am just happy that I can have a piece of Chloe style in my wardrobe.
