Are these boots really made for walkin?

Living in sunny tropical country like Malaysia has its own perks and downfalls.  For instance; it’s good that we don’t have to rearrange the closet every season, but it’s also such a bummer that we are wearing summer clothes all year long. We are also lucky because aside from the occasional rain, we don’t really have to plan our lives around four different seasons, or let any part of it affect our lives. But on several circumstances when suits, ties, jackets, uniforms or boots are mandatory, things can get a little bit sticky; literally. Imagine taking the train in Armani suits or wearing head to toe equestrian riding gear in arena under the hot sun. I have to give it up to all those people who can really do it.

That brings me to those rock star wannabe who don’t seem to mind about the weather; black leather jacket (although most of them look suspiciously PVC) out and about under the 100 degree Celsius heat. And don’t let me get started on those hip-hop kids under their layers after layers of t-shirts, hoodies and bomber jackets. I was thinking to myself; are they insane?

What’s out there?

I am a sucker for trends and fashion but never even once in my life that I can compromise comfort over the idea of looking like someone who booked a wrong plane ticket. Not until recently that is. For the longest time I know that boots are in, particularly those tall, lace-up military type that really gives the rock star vibe. My jeans will definitely look awesome tucked in those really cool Kenneth Cole black boots. Boots are all over the runways of Gucci, Burberry, Prada, Y3, Pierre Hardy and they are so hot that even Dr. Martens are on revival.  But unfortunately I have been putting the whole boots-thing on hold because I just feel like it’s a bit too much and it’s more suitable for the winter.

How to wear them best

Aside from that, like any other trends that hit the runway, this one can be rather tricky to emulate in real life. The boots must definitely have to be in the shade of black. But if you want to take a risk with tanned-leather and look like a lost cowboy, go ahead. The pants that you tucked in have to be skinny or at least slim cut to avoid the odds of looking like a Nazi leader. The pants shouldn’t look as if they were stuffed into the boots. Instead, they should look effortless as if you were wearing the boots in a hurry and didn’t really pay attention whether you get all of the pants inside the boots.

I’ve been going back and forth about this and I think I’ll give it a try one of these days! They are just some leather boots not some kind of bondage outfit for God sake! At least I’m a tropical country citizen who wears leather on my feet. I’m not wearing them on my sweat-drenched body like ‘some people’.

  1. Hey Yetmee, I agree that knee-high boots are too much for our weather, but I dont’ see a problem with a good pair of leather ankle to calf height boots. If they’re leather, with a good pair of cotton socks, your feet will actually be pretty happy. Personally, I use every torrentially rainy day as a reason to crack out my boots. =P

  2. Hi, Kahani, yes, the author of article is Hannef (and the above is his opinion) but I do so agree with you… I wear mine whenever I can…am contemplating a knee high flat one….hmmm

  3. Thx for the comment. I love the idea but it is too much for our weather. I still want to give it a try tho because I love the look so much. I am not sure about thigh high boots for all of you ladies, altho you they are all over Vogue and Elle.

Lucky for us men that our boots don’t go as high=)

  4. I’m so not an up-to-date kinda person… but I personally agree that boots do look cool sometimes… I frequently see some Moslem ladies wear their ankle high boots with black abayya… and to be honest they seem pretty fashionable… so I guess it is quite a practical idea to have a pair of boots in a row with other shoes… just to spice up our days once in a while…

  5. Ooh NOW it says Hannef. =P Go for boots dude!

Well in M’sia thigh high boots are just… trampy. But overseas with the freezing slush it makes EXCELLENT party sense. You look hot, you feel warm, you can wear short skirts (with tights of course) and even better. Thigh highs are great for stashing your tiny mobile phone and a lipgloss…

  6. Thank you for the comment,if you call yourself a fashionista then stop for a moment and have a look at these boots.

  7. You tell ‘em sista=)
