Beauty 101: Sleeping Beauty Fixers
By: aphrodite
Busy counting sheep? These while-you-were-sleeping tricks and beauty products are a great time saver. DIY and slather them on before you hit the sack; letting them work their magic overnight! You’ll awaken feeling awesome and looking gorgeous with clear skin and hot hair.
Did you know that nighttime is the best time for your body to heal and repair itself? When you are getting your zzz’s, your face, hands, feet and hair are totally shielded from the sun, air and other nasty environmental stressors. Your skin’s repair processes take place while you’re at rest and you should grab the opportunity to maximize the overnight skin-renewal process; ensuring you wake up with a flawless face!
Most importantly, before you snooze off, always remember to remove every trace of makeup on your face! This is one beauty commandment you must always follow or in the long run, you will end up with clogged pores-which are totally unsightly!
Face-down Facial
There are some great beauty products out there that will sink in overnight, stay put on your face and with some, you don’t even have to wash them off! If you don’t have the time to get a facial or pamper your skin during the day, do it just before bedtime. Apply Clinique’s Moisture Surge Extra , The Body Shop’s Vitamin C intensive Night Treatment or Dior’s capture Totale Intensive Night Restorative and then sleep on it! These potions will leave you with a moisturised and glowing face.

The Body Shop Vitamin C intensive Night Treatment
DIY option 1: Brighten and get rid of flaky skin with lemon juice. Rub a fresh lemon on any part of your body before you go to bed. Rinse off in the morning.
DIY option 2: For acne free skin, moisten a cotton piece with tea tree oil. Place the cotton on the pimple and tape in place with a piece of surgical tape. Leave on till morning. It is supposed to help draw out the liquid from the pimple. Do bear in mind that this works best for small pimples that are isolated.
The eyes have it!
Prone to puffy eyes? Dab on some eye gel around your eyes before bedtime. By the time you wake up, all the nutrients would have sunk in! Stay away from heavy creams as this can cause whiteheads to form on the skin of your eyelids. Try Benefit DePuffing Action Eye Gel or Talika Eye Therapy Mask while you sleep, it releases natural wrinkle-fighting ingrediants. If you don’t like the feeling of eye gels or an eye mask, dab on TheBalm Time Balm. It’s a miracle concealer, designed to be used either day or night. It may be superlight texture, but it contains all the moisturising goodness of beeswax, soybean oil and panthenol.
Lisa Okesson, national training manager for makeup company Shu Uemura USA, suggests this old Hollywood secret: Sleep on your back and use a slightly elevated firm pillow to help prevent fluids from pooling in your facial tissues at night.

Lip Service
If you have a problem of flaky, dry lips in the morning, brush your lips and slap on a super-mositurising lip balm before you go to bed. You’ll wake up to super-soft lips and your lipstick application will be smooth.

Pure Organic Shea Butter
Hand Therapy
Don’t we all love the idea of waking up with perfectly groomed hands? Of course we do! During the day, your hands are too busy for any treatments to work. Pop a drop of cuticle cream (oils work as well but cream texture’s are more nourishing) on the tip of each finger before you sleep. It will soften your cuticles and strengthen you nails.
Dry hands? Smother on some foot cream instead of a hand cream at night and slip on a pair of cotton gloves. During the night, you will be able to handle the heavier texture. Another option that you can DIY: Wash your hands in mild hot water. Cover them with petroleum jelly and wrap up with cotton gloves. In the morning, you will wake up to soft and moisturized hands!

Beautiful Legs
Don’t forget to keep your feet in shape. As with the hand therapy, use the same method for your feet. Simply smother on and wrap up! It will help to treat foot cracks and leave you with silky smooth feet. DIY option: Combine two tablespoons of petroleum jelly with the contents of a vitamin E capsule and massage all over your legs. Put on a pair of cotton sweats and snooze. When you wake up, wash your legs with a creamy body wash and generously rub in a mositurising body lotion. Your pins would be healthy, hydrated and have a silky touch!

Vaseline
Hot Hair
Want a ready-to-wear hairstyle as soon as you are up in the morning? Perfect when you are strapped for time. Spray a leave-in conditioner onto freshly-washed locks, then braid your hair before your sleep time. The heat from your head will dry your hair during the night. You’ll wake up fuss-free with glossy and gorgeous waves! Besides that, a fab overnight hair treatment is the Kératase Noctogenist Sérum Nuit. Whilst you sleep, this intensive hair care serum will regenerate and revive your crowning glory and give you lustrous, deep-condioned hair.
