M-iFW-”Fall Into Style”
By: yetmee
This year’s M-iFW opening night was heralded with an international air, with a Max Mara trunk show specially flown in for the event and international model Ai Tominaga making her presence on the front row. The opening night also saw the DVF (Diane von Furstenberg) Fall collection from the Nomad and Cruise/Pre-Spring 2009/2010 collections being showcased on the runway.
It was a quite spectacular, even though the winter collection fell a bit flat with the mostly Malaysian audience, but still I felt that the winter collection from Max Mara was very interesting especially with their new twist of wearing the long sweater dresses layering with sheer longer slips gave contemporary eccentricity to an otherwise boring sweate.Their marvelous winter jackets and as always their impeccable tailored suits obviously found favor with their regular customers.
Scarves and more scarves worn in different ways, as head and neckgear, lets not forget kimono sleeves , sequins and yes we are looking at ultimate luxe in cashmere, alpaca, pure camelhair and wool jersey. Colours are tobacco, pewter, grey and black , sounds too exotic, although too much black on one runway show can be a tad intimidating.
As for DVF as Stephanie Chai , who graced the in a DVF sequined velvet dress, DVF is feminine and edgy. And I must say, I am a total fan for a DVF wrap dress, which she showed a couple pieces on the runway. Her philosophy on clothes is interesting Autumn Winter being dedicated to travelling; for the Nomad range “….wherever she goes, she belongs…her clothes are her friends…” Yes, I can relate to that , although it may sound a bit sad ….

For the Cruise Line, Diane von Furstenberg intends that “the freedom to travel lightly… to go through customs with nothing to declare but colors and optimism…” is inspiring and this canb be achieve if one embrace her style. Truly the clothes are loose and dresses are drapey, off shoulder pieces nonchalantly sexy in materials splattered with colors to be worn with jeans, colorful bags and super heels. Featherweight cashmere cardigans and pailletes occasionally just to give one attitude, style and comfort.
The Nomad range is on the other hand about details, in easy to wear pieces like knits and layers. Clothes for hibernating in style and blending into the landscape. We saw Mongolian patterns on a cloak, Highland plaid over irisdescnet gold tweed and aboriginal patterns on felt.
The colors are like looking into the Mongolian and Highland sunset at the same time, from rich bright pinks, bright skies of turquoise and orange and crimson to dark purple with irisdescent sequins for the some starry sparkle.
