Beauty 101: Sans Makeup!

Would you ever dare to step out of your house BARE faced? Yup. You heard that. A completely and totally au naturale look.

I for one can hardly ever leave home without makeup. Even if I ever did, I’d feel extremely embarrassed and I would count the seconds till I can get back home. Heck, sometimes I even wear makeup at home– simply because I feel that I really just look better and a big plus is that it also makes me much more comfortable with myself. I make sure that my makeup pouch is with me at all times (all the essentials from my compact to lippie) and if I am out the whole day, I will always, always touch up my makeup along the way. Hmmm… this now makes me wonder if I’m just a plain vain pot or maybe I’m just too self-conscious and makeup obsessed!

I do use foundation, an eyebrow pencil, eyeshadow, mascara, blusher, lipstick and sometimes a lil bit of highlighter cream. But I don’t think (at least I’m seriously hoping that) I wear it too heavy until I end up looking like a theatrical drag queen! The thing is when you look at a woman with a whole load of makeup on, wouldn’t you wonder “how in the world would she look without all that makeup? I bet I wouldn’t even be able to recognize her!” I wear makeup (yes, also to make me feel better about myself) to add a little colour to my face, to enhance my features and bring out the best in me.  Makeup is an absolute necessity to me and I am certain that I’d simply look more presentable with it on.

We usually get to see our favourite celebrities all dressed up to the nines and dolled up to look like Barbie’s! Here are some of them with little or none– makeup on. But hey, they all still look totally beautiful that it’s kinda making me want to let my face breathe a little (maybe err…once in awhile would be a great start, don’t you think?).

Want to know how the stars do it? Here’s a little insider:

Practice a religious skincare routine

Most importantly if you intend to go without makeup, you must must take good care of your skin. Cleanse, tone and moisturize twice a day, in the morning and before bed time and remember to use sunscreen protection during the day. Put on a mask suitable for your skin type a least twice a week and you can up your application to 3-4 times a week (with a gentle mask of course). Give yourself a facial steam once a week to deep cleanse your pores. To ensure you a healthy glow all over, do exfoliate regularly to get rid of those unwanted dead skin cells. You can get yourself a mild exfoliating facial cleanser that can be used daily.

Groom your eyebrows, keep your lips moisturized and make sure your hair and nails are clean and tidy!

Keeping your eyebrows shaped and tidy will help to face your frame and bring out your best features. Trust me. Just pluck a few stray hairs and you will realize that it really does make a BIG difference. Keep your lips soft and kissable with a moisturizing lip balm and do remember to brush your lips to remove flakes. You could also opt to go for clear lip gloss if you prefer.  When you have clean hair and nails you can never look scruffy! It’s ok to not wear makeup, but it’s not ok to go around with unwashed hair or untrimmed nails!

Get adequate rest and drink lots of water

I know you’ve heard this time and time again. But it really is important that you get a minimum eight good hours of sleep every night. If you don’t, it’ll be written all over your face with sallow skin and puffy, dark circles around your eyes. Woke up with puffy eyes? Just leave on two cucumber slices on your eyelids to reduce the swelling. It might have been said that you need to drink at least eight glasses of water daily. In actual fact, just drink up whenever you feel thirsty and as much as you need to. Try to stay away from caffeine, alcohol and cigarettes, all these will just dehydrate you skin.

See, even without makeup, you can still look beautiful! Why not give the natural look a try? I think  I just might….
