Beauty 101: Dry Body Brushing

This is an exfoliation technique which is actually just brushing up from head-to-toe with a dry brush. It’s extremely simple to do and only takes about five minutes of your precious time, every morning. That’s not too much to ask for is it? Especially since if done religiously, you will be able to see the results, visibly on your body! I am and have always been completely hung-up on the cellulite on my thigh and butt area.

Don’t we all want  super toned bums and legs like these!

When I discovered dry body brushing a couple of months ago, I decided to give it a go. Since this practice has been raved by many- all over the internet and beauty mags, I somehow felt that there has to be some truth to it. Well…yes! It’s true. Do this every morning and after awhile, you will notice that dry body brushing will give your skin a boost! Sure, it does a great job to help remove flakes and unwanted dead skin cells. There are also many other benefits of dry skin massage! This gentle massage helps to break up fatty deposits (yay!), stimulates the immune system, detoxifies your body and encourages circulation. If you have always wanted skin that glows (and I’m not talking about makeup here), all you have to do is dry body brush.

To get started, all you need are two things. That’s all it takes. Your body and a brush.

Go for a brush with natural and soft bristles. Remember, you don’t need to brush so hard till you turn red. A long handled brush is easier to handle, gives you more control and won’t slip out of your hands. You could also use bath gloves made from natural fibers, just use something that you are comfortable with.

Do this before hitting the shower, either first thing in the morning or just before you go to bed.

Start at the soles of your feet by using circular motions with the brush. Move up your ankles, calves and thighs, in gentle upward stokes.

When you get to your abdomen, use circular motions going from the left to right side to give you better digestion. Continue towards your hips and then to your upper chest area. Be careful and extra gentle at this area as this is where your skin is most sensitive.

Carry on towards your arms and once you reach the shoulders, brush in downward motion towards your heart. Then, brush up your back area. From the neck area, brush down and from your buttocks and lower back brush up. Hit shower as soon as you are done with brushing your body to help rid those nasty toxins.

Top Tip: Pay extra attention to cellulite-prone areas such as your thighs, buttocks and stomach.

DO remember to keep your brush clean in a cool, dry place and it’s really not advisable to share it with others. Hygiene, hygiene! Replace your body brush yearly. A brush would normally get too soft and worn out after twelve months of usage!

Time to get rid of that cellulite and welcome a natural, amazing glow to your skin!
