StyleSpot: Sweet & Sexy in Lace

This patterned fabric with open holes has been around for centuries. During those early days, lace used to be worn throughout various religious ceremonies such as the christening robe, Holy Communion (yes, my Holy Communion dress–specially designed by my lovely aunt was infact a LACE dress!), weddings and even death (gasp!). That was white lace of course. Since of late, the virgin white lace has been given a totally updated and chic twist-in a variety of colours and super stylish designs.

The lacey trend is a hit with celebs and it also happens to be my fav! I managed to get myself a lace, long sleeved black mini dress with I totally heart! On some days, I wear it either with a spaghetti strap slip or a tube underneath. On others, I transform it into a top and pair up with a skirt, pants and even jeans for a casual look. Now that’s what I call functional and absolute value for money. Heck, I’m dressed in it so often that my best friends have asked if I am running out of clothes to wear!

Here are some celebs looking great in lace:

Rihanna went for a teeny bit of lace on her bustier top and a structured jacket with shoulder pads (very 80’s but extremely sophisticated and wearable!). She pairs up with satin harem pants and pointed pumps all in the same colour-black!

Kerry Washington all glammed up in her glorious gown.  The dual-toned dress boasts a white lace asymmetrical top and a massive, poofy skirt at the bottom. She adds a pair of dainty, dangling earrings, a simple bangle and a tiny clutch to her ensemble. With her striking red lipstick and perfect updo, she looks totally elegant and classy, the perfect evening wear.

Here’s how lace can make one look both sweet and sexy and the same time! Liv Tyler looks just that in this lace detailed Stella McCartney dress matched with a stand-out cocktail ring and black peep-toe heels. With her natural looking makeup and her hair pulled back into a simple ponytail, she really looks effortlessly gorgeous.

Model Lily Cole struts out during the day in an off-white lace dress with a tube underneath. Teamed with black and white heels from Sergio Rossi, a black tote and a gold watch, she comes off as casual yet chic without looking like she’s trying so hard to impress anyone.

Emma Roberts’s red lace mini dress truly brings out her porcelain complexion. She rocks the outfit with a pair of black oxford shoes and some funky pieces of jewellery. I love that she kept her makeup at minimal and left her hair down in some loose, sexy waves!

Scarlett Johansson is a lace lover. I am really amazed at how she manages to pull off the old-school Hollywood glam look! Her lacey black dress with a wide corset band slims her waist and does wonders for her figure. She goes for simple silver jewellery and of course a pair of must-have Christian Louboutin heels in pink satin.
