Beauty 101: Glossy Locks
By: Rachel Desiree
If it’s lustrous locks that you want, then take some time out to care for your hair. Trust me, it really does not take much to keep your crowning glory healthy and gorgeous looking. Just follow these six simple steps!
Nourish
Keep your scalp and hair healthy with a balanced, nutritious diet and you will get to see your locks super-glossy. You can also opt for rich hair treatments to nourish your locks from the outside.
Cleanse
Wash up every 2-3 days as pollution and impurities take the shine off your hair. Do bear in mind that washing too frequently may also dull your locks. Most importantly, choose a shampoo and conditioner formulated for your hair type. Try to switch to a different shampoo for one wash each month to remove any build-up and refresh your hair (or just stick to your regular one, if you have a sensitive scalp). You know your scalp and hair best, so do what’s right for you.
Lock In
Psst. Want to know how to ensure extra shine? Rinse your hair in cold water as this helps to “seal” the cuticles so each strand stays super-smooth. Never rub and tug at your hair! Gently squeeze out excess water wand blot with a towel. To remove knots and tangles, use a wide-toothed comb from the ends first, then comb-in a leave-in conditioner to ensure your locks are moisturized.
Revive
If you have extremely damaged or styled hair, you must try out a “reconstructor”. These are more intense than leave-in conditioners which will help to repair and rebuild your hair. Smooth a generous dollop and distribute evenly with gentle strokes to help stimulate the scalp.
Smooth
To make your strands look glossy, clever styling will do the trick. Yup, you can cheat! Let you hair dry naturally until it’s just damp. Then blow-dry in small sections and always make sure the nozzle is pointing downwards. Once dry, bend your head forward and set your hair with a blast of cold air. To protect your hair from split ends, you could use a little Vaseline to smooth the ends of your hair or use a styling product designed to do the job. Whichever you prefer goes!
Shine
For high-shine locks, go out and get yourself bottled hair gloss. This is a must-have! If it’s a spray formula, do hold the nozzle 30 cm away and direct it on the mid-lengths and ends. Smooth a drop for serum between your palms and using flat hands, stroke it onto your hair. Only treat the roots if you have fly-aways or else you will just be making your hair greasy.
That’s it! An easy way to achieve shiny shiny locks! Let your hair down Rapunzel!
