Tights are just right

With fall collections already underway in stores and studs, denim, lace and plenty of metallic tones and black to be seen everywhere, we’re not surprised that tights continue to be a big thing. Even in a country like Malaysia where the weather is humid and warm, we do love our hosiery. While not too many people are game enough to try on a brightly printed pair a la Susie Bubble on www.stylebubble.typepad.com,  there have been lace tights and leggings and some brightly coloured ones around.

A key point to remember when wearing these tights is that they should be treated as hosiery and not pants. They look best under shorts, a skirt or a dress and at most, under a longish shirt and/or jacket that hits the hip and covers your behind. Since they are very fitted pieces, the tendency to have everything on show is quite high if you don’t pair them with the right pieces.

Just about anyone can carry printed and bright tights too….just keep the rest of your outift simple so they stand out.  Seen on a few street style websites, here are a few examples:

Orange tights are a very daring item to wear out. This combination may not suit everyone but the printed shift mini dress is toned down with a burnt orange blazer and black sandals. The important thing with monochrome tones is to vary the shades that are used instead of going top to toe in the exact tone of orange, which is why this outfit, though bright, works.

A super fierce look like python leggings is carried off with minimal, structured items like a white shirt, black blazer and stiletto pumps. There is no need for any accessories or heavy makeup as too much will be overkill and make the look overdone.

Tights can be used on a soft, vintage look when paired with a lace blouse layered over a dress. Boots toughen up the look with a new spin so it doesn’t come across as old-fashioned.

What’s catching on is knee high socks with heels. Here, she wears black socks with tan heels with an army print dress and a faded jean vest.

Sheer polka dot tights and a black skirt and biker boots look more demure with a slouchy boyfriend sweater in grey marle and a doctor tote.

A very Chanel-esque look in black and white is made quirky with polka dot wrist gloves, two toned tights and spotted heels. Apart from her bag and skirt suit, everything else is two-tone! This is bound to make everyone sit up and take notice, especially with the tights.

Blue knee length socks play up the light green of her blouse and the metallic blue tone of her oversized clutch. The whole ensemble is well put-together because of the play on the colours of blue, green, white, back and pale gold.

Sheer shredded tights brings back the 80s era but what keeps her look modern are the boots and the striking red bob she sports.

This look is almost something that Katy Perry would wear and you’ll have to be daring enough to wear this with the splash of red. The two tone tights will slim your legs as it creates a vertical divide.

Lace tights can be paired with more masculine pieces like a blazer and a long loose tee. Flats pretty up the look a little.

  1. I think the hosiery is nice however I have a design idea for nylons that I belive will be fantastic. If you have any interest in letting me share that vision with you perhaps we can produce nothing that I have seen on the web and I have been to many many sights.
