Luscious Lips
By: Rachel Desiree
Are you one of those who have been stuck to the same ol’ lipstick colour for ages? Just for a refreshing change, why not say bye-bye to your lipstick rut? We show you four essential lipstick shades that can be truly flattering on every skintone (Oh yes it’s possible)!
Pinkie Pinks
You may find this hard to believe, but a pink hued lippie looks great on every skintone. Fairer complexions should go for sheer pinks minus the blue tint to it. Mauves or pale rose colours would work best for you! For deeper skintoned ladies, the deeper pink shade you should pick out. Pair up your pinkie lips with blue or even purple eyeshadow. Apply the eyecolour from lashline to crease or you can also opt to line your eyes instead.
Try:
Estee Lauder Pure Color Lasting Lipstick in Flamingo
Anna Sui Lip Gloss in 304
Dior Addict Ultra Shine Lipstick in 682
Purple Passion
If you have a darker complexion with strong yellow undertones, this is one lipstick shade that is a must have! Fair to medium-toned skins should go for shiny sheers. Smoky eyes are your best bet to wear with purple toned lipsticks. Purple lips also look awesome with purple eyeshadow. Sweep a pale lilac one lids from lashline to browbone. For a pop of sexiness, increase the colour’s intensity towards the outer corners of your eyes.
Try:
L’Oreal Paris Glam Shine Cream in Sexy Plum
Paul & Joe Lipstick CS in Sweet Melody
Elizabeth Arden Exceptional Lipstick in Starlight
Stunning Scarlet
Dare to walk on to the wild side? Just keep this rule in mind: match your skintone with the lipcolour’s undertones. Blue-based reds work best on porcelain skins. Tanned goddess will look fab in reds with an orange or gold undertone. If you are clueless on how to determine the undertone of the lipstick, hold it against a white sheet of paper and you can then clearly spot the blue or orange undertone. Classic red looks beautiful on all skintones. Keep your eyes in a nude shade with a touch of beige or white or draw on some back kohl.
Try:
Revlon Super Lustrous Lipstick Creme In Love That Red
Clarins Lipstick In Illusion
Clinique Surge Butter Shine Lipstick in Cranberry Cream
Confident in Coffee
It might be a little tricky to find the right shade of brown for you, but once you do, trust me, you’ll be super glad and super FAB! Fair skins might end up looking washed out in pale browns with yellow undertones, where else dark skins can look to harsh in dark choc hues. Rich shades of mocha, caramel and coffee browns will flatter fair skins. Tanned complexions suit sheer light browns and also browns with a red or mahogany undertone. Define your peepers with black eyeliner and brown shades of eyeshadow.
Try:
Chanel Rouge Hydrabase in Tokyo Beige
Maybelline Moisture Cream in Brown Sugar
Bobbi Brown Lipstick in Sandwash Peach
Top Three Lip Tricks:
1. For longer Lasting Lipsticks, store them in the refrigerator. Works great on cream based lipsticks that might seem a bit too soft for application.
2. If your lipcolour is too bright or too bold, apply a slick of light beige lippie or blend in with concealer instead.
3. If you lust for fuller lips, a little shimmery white eyeshadow on the centre of your lower lip will give you the pouty pout you desire.
