” In conjunction with the recent launch of its Fall 2009 Declaring Indigo make-up collection, Lancôme Malaysia will be bringing in 16 pieces of exclusive and limited edition themed Be@rbrickTM.
Designed by Artistic Director of , Aaron De Mey and developed and produced exclusively for Lancôme by Medicom Toy Corporation Japan, the Declaring Indigo Be@rbrickTM in 100% size is a must-have designer toy for collectors worldwide. The creation of this cult souvenir object for the Fall 2009 make-up collection was an original idea mooted by De Mey, as it is one of his favourite collectibles.
Many contemporary artists and designers from Asia, Australia, Europe and North America have created their own Be@rbricksTM by designing a scheme or decorating the toy’s standard mold. Contributors range from world-class visual artists H.R. Giger, illustrators Pushead, graffiti artist Stash to fashion designers including Karl Lagerfeld and Vivienne Westwood. As a result of the Be@rbrickTM‘s limited production and the participation of such artists, these collectibles are also known as designer toys. Exclusive pieces such as Declaring Indigo Be@rbrickTM are highly sought-after and difficult to obtain for collectors outside of Japan; and are often purchased on the secondary market especially through online auctions.
Striking primary hues saturate the ‘Declaring Indigo Be@rbrickTM by Aaron De Mey’ . It features a rich royal blue body, velvety matte red lips, and adorns the famed Lancôme rose in luxurious gold for one of its eyes. Lancôme’s Declaring Indigo make-up collection is a showcase of De Mey’s ‘rebellious’ and edgy style. It is inspired by the hues of the Parisian Coat of Arms and it strongly embraces the French spirit of freedom and impertinence. Through the collection, Lancôme celebrates the French irreverence with a powerful indigo colour statement, punctuated with gold and red splendour as reflected in the same titled Be@rbrickTM.
The Be@rbrickTM figure is an anthropomorphized bear with an extremely simplified form and a pot belly. The plastic figure features nine ‘parts’, i.e. head, torso, hips, arms, hands and legs. These nine ‘parts’ allow eight points of articulation with the swivel head, swivel waist, ball joint arms, swivel wrists and the ball joint legs. The first figure was released in May 2001 and since then, Be@rbricksTM have been released in several different sizes using a variety of materials, including wood, felt and glow-in-the-dark plastic.”
Be@rbricksTM Bear Facts
The standard size is 7 centimetres (cm) tall, and these figures are referred to as 100% . Other Be@rbricksTM are named for their size relative to the standard, for e.g. 50% are 4 cm, 400% are 28 cm and 1000% are 70 cm in height. Due to its unique packaging in a ‘blind box’ and varied sizes, Be@rbricksTM are produced in limited numbers and not re-released, thus making them highly adult collectibles.
Only 16 pieces of the limited edition Declaring Indigo Be@rbrickTM has been brought into Malaysia and it will be available exclusively at Lancôme Isetan Suria KLCC on a purchase-with-purchase and first come first served basis, starting 17th August 2009.
