That looks familiar…did I see that in another shop?

I met a friend of mine at 1U yesterday at the Lenka Showcase. She was showing off what she bought at Forever 21. It was a really nice graphic dress with detailed neckline and in pinkish, purple-ish colour. I was like, wow, that’s really pretty and the image of the dress was stuck on my mind as it is something that I would wear and I found it pretty awesome.
Window-surfing online for clothes is therapeutic. Especially if I am super broke, window-surfing for clothes online is a perfect way to procrastinate and feed the soul’s need to see pretty things! So, as I was surfing one of my favourite site: Shopruche.com, I saw the EXACT same dress my friend was showing me today.
SPOTTED!

From Shopruche.com, Bristle Brush Strokes Dress, USD$39.99.

From Forever 21, Abstract Rolled Trim Dress, USD$27.80
How is this possible?
Well, this is not shocking coming from Forever 21. They were sued many times before, as reported by WWD for copying the exact same design and selling them for a cheaper price. As I was checking out Forever21.com, I also found a similar dress that I tried on before at Promod.

This Colourful Plaid Dress from forever 21 looks awfully similar to the Promod prints below:

When shopping in shops these days, we’ll never know which design is ripped off from where. Its not like we know if the design of a bag for example is a total rip off another expansive bag from a boutique in New York. If it was never covered by the press and online blogs, we’ll never see those designs and will actually buy the bag without realizing we’re buying the rip off bag. I mean, we don’t know who copied who, but I feel bad for the designers who designs these awesome clothes only to be sold for a cheaper price in another shop elsewhere. Copying another person’s idea/design is so not cool.
What do you think about this issue? Have you seen any similar clothes in 2 different shops?

yeah, it’s true well i read bout it also in Fashion Babylon (very good & informative book) . I think it’s the transitions of the design from high end to high street example Topshop did those copycat thing. but i think it kind of profitable to people who can’t afford those expensive clothes like me a colleg student. As long it’s not so obvious like a fake LV bag.

its called recycling fashion. Whatever you see on the runway will appear again in EVERY store! I guess its the same thing in international retail stores.
Like, the ballerina pumps by chanel cost thousand over ringgit. a few months later, its on vincci for 80bucks!

i think it’s a bit harmful if the shop has obvious trademarks on its products like LV and burberry. But on the other hand the fashion of the spreads like a seasonal flu from one brand to the other.
