How to Choose the Right Top
By: Rachel Desiree
Remember last week’s post on how to find the right dress? Today we have a few simple tips on picking out the proper top.
The best part about putting separate pieces of clothing together is that you get to mix and match as much as you want to create your desired look for the day.
Once you have determined your body shape, simply follow these pointers.
Top Heavy
Look for:
A simple button front blouse with an ample cut and room at the top works best for you. A great option would be a blouse with an attached/ matching scarf o draw attention away from your large chest or even your flabby arms.
Splendid Gauze Button Down Shirt
Crumpet V-neck cashmere cardigan
Kimiko silk shirt with Scarf
Avoid:
Never add on bulk to your already heavy top. Stay away from piling on layers such as a turtleneck and thickly knitted cardigan.
Full Hips
Look for:
Wider necklines such as boatnecks or squared necks will help to balance fuller hips and make your body appear more proportionate. Chic, hip length tunics are perfect for your “I’m fat days”. Don’t worry about them making you look “auntie”, all you need to do is pair them up stylishly and you will look as young as ever, even in a tunic.
Gold Hawk Square Neck Top
VIVIENNE WESTWOOD ANGLOMANIA Norma Jean jersey top
Mint Jodi Arnold Embellished Boat Neck Top
Avoid:
A big no-no is anything tucked in and tight simply because that will just draw more attention to your hips.
Boyish figure
Look for:
Ties, bows and embellishments are the way to go for you. Form-fitting look will help to accentuate your bust and waist. This is your chance to go clingy so that the fitted blouse highlights your curves and flaunts your best.
Sonia by Sonia Rykiel Silk Ruffle Neck Blouse
Rachel Pally Ruffle Back Top
ASOS Petal Racerback Top
Avoid:
Never pick tops that are plain as well as boxy look with straight lines. These styles will do nothing for your body.
Good luck in finding blouses that suit you best!
