White Shoes and men

I had a very interesting conversation with a male friend recently, of all things women in white shoes.

He totally took me off guard by his observation which isn’t technically an observation as opposed to a judgment. We were watching a girl walk past us in her PVC white kitten heels and he suddenly commented that he is mystified why girls would wear white shoes because it is so very unflattering on them with the exception of wedding shoes.He went on to say that he had actually checked with some of his other male friends and they actually concurred with him.

But having said that , he can’t quite pinpoint the exact reason. So we proceeded to break this observation down a little.

Of 5 males interviewed, 3 agreed and two others have no opinion (typical!). Then we went on , what if leather loafers or expensive flats like TOD’s , still no good.  What if 2in or 3 in spike heels, no deal. What about strappy stillettoes , erm maybe but ….How about mod a-g0-go boots, oh heaven forbid. Furry white boots …UGG like? No way!  But, thigh high PVC or leather boots, with white cut outs or even if without and worn over short skirts or shorts, is a different story altogether. Thigh highs any colour and Rupaul tall white ones, will set the pulse and senses racing, hence I figure judgement is not so cerebral here therefore the colour is not really the issue.

Today while I was at the shop and checking out some latest shoes, I hesitated when I was trying on a lovely off white pair as I was reminded of that conversation. And I must say I had a moment  of doubt …I usually buy what I like but still to have such a strong opinion from the guys I figure warrant some more extensive thinking…

Quick Survey:

So  I am curious, really do all guys think white shoes as unflattering on girls? Why?

What about you girls? Do you own a pair?Does it matter what the guys think?

Would you stop wearing apair if your boyfriend has the same opinion as my guy friend did?


How to keep your white shoes white, some suggestions:

1) one girl says after each wear she would use nail polish remover to clean it

2) another says put in a shoe box and don’t just throw it on the rack

3) another swears by this- polish shoe with transparent polish before first wear so that it doesn’t scuff so easily and allows for easy wipe off after wearing subsequently

    reminds me to0 much of skul days
    n yes knee hig white pvc bo0ts worn over short skirts altogether is diffrent story[reminds me of those dancers]
    usually womens lo0ks nice in black shoes[yawnnn] but yesss
    its lo0ks sexy[strappy one] exoctic and masculine [gladiator]

    What’s worse than women in white shoes ? Men in white shoes!!! From my observation, men from certain geographical locales love to wear white shoes, made all the worse when teemed with white pants.

    lol..i always buy shoes/heels in white..because it is easiest to match with any pants or dress :)

    i only wear white sneakers.
    else than that…if the white shoes are too covered. it reminds me of a nurse.
    subtle looking white shoes are ok for some occasion.
    but not for daily casual wearing.
    BLACK is the best. safest and nicest.
    won’t get dirty too ;p
    well, that’s my penny’s worth.

    White stilettos and heels are sexy.
    White boots and pumps gives a trend of netherworld
    White sneakers are cool and allow plenty room for creativity.
    White flats and wedges are simply too out for attention, which causes the eyes to stare down rather than focus on the person.

    That’s my opinion.

    However I think dudes with white sneakers are cool. But not with white moccasin, that’s plain amusing!

    interesting observation. i just realized tat i too have the tendency to stray from white shoes, for no particular reason as well. tat is of course with the exception of canvas sneakers. :)
