The magical unveiling of HTC Magic
By: karenmarie
Touch screen is now so common that every other gadget is going touch screen. We all want to touch and feel things. Move things with our fingers and everything is at a touch of the hands. HTC has always been bringing in innovative phones which are trendy and up with the phone market. Just recently, they’ve launched a new phone called HTC Magic, which is a touch screen phone also. This new phone is the first in Malaysia where its called an Android powered phone. Android simply means, its a Google powered phone where it uses Google powered operating system. This means that for those of you who live on “Google-ing” everything you do, the Android phone is perfect for you.
So what’s on the phone that’s good for us, aside from the usual phone features?

Google Search
With this android powered phone, you can search for anything you want through Google with a touch of a finger. The only downside of this part is when you search, it comes out with a QWERTY keyboard which enables you to slowly press one by one like you would do a normal keyboard. Makes things hard because you’d have to be so precise and if you have stubby fingers like mine (or with nails), you cannot really press the keypad properly. It has the usual google search where you can search for anything and browsing is really awesome as it fits the window automatically. You can also zoom in and out of the browser and see at optimal view. Google-ing on the go has never been so easy.
Google Map
This phone not only comes with GPS, also with Google Map features which enables you to view real time view of places. Of course seeing how Malaysian map on Google map is not live updated, you’ll probably see the satellite photo of Malaysian street, but elsewhere will be in real time.
Other Google applications: GTalk, gmail, Google Calendar, You tube are all in the phone.

Android Applications
With it being an Android powered phone, you’ll have the choice to download as many applications as you want that would be installed on the phone. These aps may include games, financial tools, twitter tools and other things which can be bought online or downloaded for free from the Android Application e-shops like this.
Other basic phone features:
Camera: Yes! but without a flash feature, which is a bummer as photos won’t be as awesome.
Video: Yes! You can also upload it straight to youtube!
Wifi: Yes!
3G: No…but its better, its 3.5G!
Look & Feel
Now on to the look & feel.
HTC has a philosophy where they listen to what customers want and come up with designs of the phone to fit the customers demands. So for this Magic phone, they went all rounded looking with sleek sides which makes it easier for us to hold the phone. It also has a trackball for scrolling and navigating through the pages aside from the screen. Everything looks squeaky neat and nice as it fits perfectly on the palm for easy holding.
It also has a very neat scrolling of pages effect where it can be scrolled by just a swoosh of a few fingers. They have 3 sort of “Desktops” where you can place all your applications on it.
You can of course, drag and drop everything you want or need on to the “desktop” and throw it out if you don’t like it by just dragging it down.
Reminds me of a very famous OS…which shall not be named.
The buttons will sort of disappear with the blackness of the screen and lights up whenever you touch the phone or give it a click.
The HTC Touch is a phone which would give you entertainment, organization and also the internet. Something which everyone wants in this day and age. A few minor changes here and additions there would make it a better phone in total.
What do you think about this phone?
HTC Magic retails at RM2699 and is available with a Celcom postpaid plan, if you want to purchase it. Celcom is offering a pre order of this phone exclusively in The Blue Cube outlets. When you make an order, you will get an additional 8G memory (as opposed to the 2G only) and additional accessories when purchasing. This is for a limited number of sets only. Be quick to register!
Some photos from the launch of the phone. They has this “magic” theme.
