So Wesley finally held his first ever Bi-annual giclee art exhibition at the WL Gallery along Jalan Gasing which he curated. Featuring 6 artists and 6 photographers, it was an incredible exhibition and an eye opening experience for visitors and art collectors alike. Artisist that were featured were Abby, Felicia Loh, Lee Weng Fatt, Tan Hong Lee and Ungku Farrah;photographers featured were Din Arshad, Eiffel Chong, Jothi, HK Low , Melvyn Khoo and Steve Chong.

Giclee is a form of art where original artworks like print photography and paintings are reprinted using high resolution inkjet printers.

The word “giclée” is derived from the French language word “le gicleur” meaning “nozzle”, or more specifically “gicler” meaning “to squirt, spurt, or spray”[1]. It was coined in 1991 by Jack Duganne[2], a printmaker working in the field, to represent any inkjet-based digital print used as fine art. The intent of that name was to distinguish commonly known industrial “Iris proofs” from the type of fine art prints artists were producing on those same types of printers. The name was originally applied to fine art prints created on Iris printers in a process invented in the early 1990s but has since come to mean any high quality ink-jet print and is often used in galleries and print shops to denote such prints. It was an event attended by friends and art lovers.  Actress Hannah Lo from the movie “Sell Out!”  graced the event, and she was seen busily absorbing information about some of the artworks and getting to know the artists. A quick conversation found her to be really charming and she told of how it felt rather unusual to watch the  movie on the big screen after two years.

Jothi’s pixel art is a new form for this multi talented photographer, who resides in France . He is currently working as a biologist in between photography shoots. Pixel art is an art using computer computer graphics to transfroma  photograph and totally translating it to mean something else altogether.

Well, I must say from the works that were exhibited , this could be a new trend for some amateur collectors. But if Wesley will have his way , it would also start a secondary market of its own, since Wesley has created a sustainable business model that would enable artists and collectors alike to benefit from this. Each piece comes with RFID tag and carries a price tag from RM500 and above depending on size.
