Metal mania

Metal strikes hot this season from catwalk to celebrities and boutiques who offer the latest pieces that are bound to make you think you’ve struck gold. There’s silver, gold and bronze to choose from in varying tones, and if you like, there are different treatments available for this trend; think sequins, embellishments and shine using all sort of different materials like satin and even lycra.
If you think these are too flashy to be worn during the day, think again. There’s no reason to hide your special pieces in your closet and bring them out only on special occasions. The trick is to dress down the rest of your outfit so that you look effortlessly low-key. For example, a sequinned tank top will look great under a neutral coloured cardigan, cutoff denim shorts and strappy flat sandals. Try to stay away from fully shiny pieces at work though, for they tend to be distracting. Instead, opt for subtle beading at the neckline or a metallic trim at the hem of your pencil skirt.
Here are some pictures from the catwalk, of celebrities and items found online that will help inspire you in putting your look together:

Off the Balenciaga catwalk, a metallic patchwork jacket is punked up with slim fitting pewter pants and a simple tank top.

You can dress down a sequin dress with a three quarter sleeved top underneath like this Balenciaga outfit here.

Silver has a subtly glamorous effect here when made into an ethereal goddess-like gown.

Charlize Theron demonstrates that silver in the form of a blazer can look polished with black skinny pants, a statement necklace and booties.

Taylor Swift looks unusually edgier in this black and silver frock.

Rose McGowan and Carmen Electra know that they need to go minimal on their accessories in order to let this gold sequin number to stand out.

This is a baby step to foraying into the trend. Silver ankle ties highlight the legs but don’t scream look-at-me.

Shiny gold is woven into a white wedge with a cork heel which looks perfect with a sundress on hot days.

An unusual shade of blue will draw attention to your feet. The best part is, although these are flats, the colour and shiny treatment instantly enables you to wear it at night as long as the rest of your outfit is partyworthy.

Dare to bare in this molten gold swimsuit. You definitely won’t want to wet this one because it’s ideal for lounging by the pool or sea.

An adorable clutch like this Miu Miu one is roomy for your essentials and sparks up any outfit you have, plain or dressed up.

Metallic details can be classy in the form of a demure knee-length dress. Wear with simple black pumps.

These leggings are only for the daring and for those who dare, wear with a loose top in black and ankle boots.

This is a piece that can even be worn to work if it is matched with a collared shirt and a blazer. The subtle shine stands out on its own and when you are ready for that hot date, swap your shirt for a racerback tank top and wear your highest skyscraper heels and shoulder-duster earrings.
