Raoul brings fluidity and nostalgia

We have always looked to Raoul as a go-to for work wear but  with these new pieces in fresh florals, pastel shades and strong prints, the separates can easily be worn on the weekend paired with casual tops, and dresses can be dressed down with flats for lounging by the pool or at a cafe.

Raoul’s spring/summer 2009 collection is a luxurious expression of breeziness and feminine chic inspired by the suits of the 80′s but modulated with a play on different fabrics that soften the cut and overall feel of the outfits.  Details such as chiffon shawl collars, gathers on lapels and pleats on sleeves add the feminine touch to the signature Raoul staples.

The fabrics are diaphanous, the silhouettes are soft yet structured, paying special attention to the shoulders. The colors range from romantic pastels to exuberant brights, while being grounded in fleshy nudes, smokey greys and ethereal white.

For the guys, pieces channel a modern Cary Grant and 50s style prints. Camp shirts are made modern with ombre effects and paired with silk pants. Floral prints add to the breeziness of the collection and colour plays a big part in the collection, especially seen on a buttery yellow shirt with upturned sleeves in blue.

Here are some of the collection’s standout pieces:

02

Wear this skirt suit with a ruffled pastel blouse underneath for a polished, dainty look.

07

Guys will exude confidence in this daring colour combination at work. The shirt also will work great with jeans on the weekend.

08

A play on stripes is a strong look and goes well with navy slacks.

09

Not everyone can pull of a shiny shirt, but this makes a unique piece to be worn under a dinner jacket for a more formal event.

11

This blouse is flattering on most figures, cinching at the waist and highlighting the decolletage. The shoulders and sleeves balance out hips as well.

15

The subtle polka dot on the pants are loud enough to draw attention to your lower half so proceed only if you have a slim bottom. The silky top is a good piece for night to be worn with a pencil skirt or cigarette pants.

18

This silky, ombre blouse can be worn to the office or on the weekend. Just ensure you wear the right camisole underneath.

21

A cute sun dress in a forgiving A-line can be dressed up for a party with the right strappy shoes and clutch.

24

Another summery dress but this time off-shoulder in a white swirl pattern.

35

Tricky colours like yellow and purple can be worn together if they are in pastels like this top and striped skirt.

37

Can you imagine this for a formal dinner? It’s an unusual choice that’s not a typical gown, but gives coverage and looks dressy. Just ensure you have your higest heels on and wear a belt otherwise you’d get lost in the fabric.

38

Want a girly option to wear for a celebration? This dress is great for a date night with the satin fabric and comfortable knee-length.

51

You are bound to make people stop and stare if you wear this number. The slit goes up pretty high so you might want to wear another slip underneath, or use plenty of double sided tape!

41

A dress in a fun print will evoke summer nights especially if worn with strappy metallic sandals and a purse with a long strap.

40

This sexy shirt dress can be worn to work if paired with other formal, strong accessories to tone down the colour, such as a black structured tote and pumps.

An exquisite goddess gown cut simply is a fantastic statement to make with a jewelled belt and matching heels.
